SN crew saying that Anaheim and Florida have reached out regarding Max. I don't follow the prospects like you guys but I agree that this is the way to go with a MP trade. My fear is the stuff I'm hearing that Bergevin thinks he can rebuild on the fly & wants a roster player. He'll do that because he thinks so highly of his ability that the team will be competitive next year. I'm getting repetitive but I have a sinking feeling that he'll ignore what needs to be done. Another prime asset will be misused & the best we can hope for is mediocrity. TSN saying that their source close to Berg says Berg has nothing on the table that would make him move Max at this point.

The Blues selling is not good news as it likely means they are out of the Pacioretty sweepstakes. Seventeen's dream of Thomas may be on hold now!! That seems like a good haul for Hartman. That dream was quashed at least a week ago, when it was apparent the Blues weren't giving up Thomas. I find Armstrong's moves a little puzzling. They've obviously come to the conclusion that competing this year is a non-starter. They may be right, but letting a short sample (the last 5 games) decide for you seems, forgiving the pun, a little short-sighted. They were pretty good at centre with Schwarz and Stastny. They were using Schenn on the wing, but he can play centre. They also had Berglund and Sobotka, so were in good shape there. The defense is strong with Pietroangelo, Parayko, Bouwmeester, Gunnarsson, and Dunn. Wing isn't the strongest, but it's also the easiest to improve in. Adding Patches would have strengthened that area a lot. Goal is suspect, but they could have wangled Niemi or Lindgren out of Montreal in a deal for Thomas. They might even have gotten another winger out of it if they'd inclued Kyrou. I could see a Max, Lindgren, Shaw type deal for Thomas and Kyrou and a draft choice. That's a hockey trade, not a rental deal. Instead they have decided the competition this year is too tough. News flash...it never gets easier

I like Winnipeg being aggressive because they have a really well stocked system and giving up a late first rounder this year is not a big sacrifice. This is terrible blow to the Blues, but the reality is those guys (particularly Jake Allen) have played so poorly this month that Doug Armstrong lost his nerve and now has gone into wait until next year mode. This could be good news for that cluster of competitive though not stellar teams in the Pacific (San Jose, Anaheim, Los Angeles, and Calgary) because now it looks more like the Central is not going to grab both wildcards. I like Hartman. He is fast, feisty and chips in offensively at the rate a good third liner should. It does feel like a bit of an overpay but Nashville wants to win now and Poile must have thought he cannot surrender the pieces to grab someone like Pacioretty or Kane. Hartman is a younger version of Shaw. He'll score those dirty goals in the playoffs. I like this deal for Nashville. They have a very good pipeline of prospects right now, so giving up the 1st doesn't hurt them much.

Good chance of that. TSN claimed this morning that Thomas was a non-starter for the Blues. Moving Stastny does clear out a significant amount of cap space - even retaining 50%. Bottom line, the Blues goalie situation may have shifted their priorities. Lindgren was named the started for tonight, so I don't see him being in a trade. Winnipeg was looking to add as well to their top six. This may also mean they are out of any possible Pacioretty deal as well. What is that ominous background music I keep hearing now? Anyone else hear it lol? That's the prelude to the fat lady singing. Berg is done for this season's trading, I agree. It would be really interesting to know what offers were on the table to judge if he made the right decision (holding off) or the wrong one (wanted too much). Won't ever know.

Plus Fisher is now an active roster player today... they've got more depth now. Plus Tolvanen, whom I believe will join the Preds after the KHL season. So you've got to think that Winnipeg, Nashville and St. Louis are all out on Max. Who does that leave? The Bakersfield Condors.

What young center were we going to get back from the Jets? They might have kicked the tires, but I don't think they were ever really an option. Roslovic was one possibility.

I think this shows how much teams are holding onto their draft picks. Jokinen was on waivers earlier this year. He's old and little more than a shootout specialist. Motte is a 22 year old fringe player.

How is Florida down the Middle? They got Bjustead and Barkov that I know...Is Huberdeau a center? Would that be enough? Or is there something else there?

So the Blue Jackets add Cole, Letetsu and Vanek. That is some bargain shopping. I guess John Davidson and Kekolainen are not overly confident about making the playoffs.

So if SJ does not resign Evander Kane, then that first round turns into a second. Wow, good on SJ to lowball Buffalo on that deal.

And then we add. It was the pick we got for Jerabek, so basically a one for one swap once the dust settles.

Sounds like the kind of defender we need. I note a number of sites mentioning that the Habs were interested in him in college, so likely scouting by our amateur guys in addition to our pro scouts.

McD and Miller for Hajek, Howden, Namestnikov, a first and a conditional second. Essentially 4 pieces for McD.

I hope that Reilly amounts to something in the NHL, but it feels like a long shot. At least Morrow is gone. He had 2g and 8a in 38 games for Minny. He's signed next year at 725k. He's likely a third pair type that replaces Morrow/Jerabek.

He's 24 years old, about to turn 25 in July, so not exactly a prospect. Then again, it took Greg Pateryn a few years before he put it together (though in his defense, he was being held back by two failed coaches). There may be hope, I guess. If our Pro scouts were involved, it's a red flag. Having said that, he easily replaces Morrow, so it was like trading a 5th rounder for a 4th rounder.

If our Pro scouts were involved, it's a red flag. The age thing is a bit misleading because he was a college player. He's a Minnesota kid. He played his college hockey there. Thought drafted by Columbus he's played his whole pro career in the Wild organization. He had 30 points in 57 games for Iowa last year and seems to hover around zero on the plus/minus.

I'm really surprised how much VGK gave up for Tatar. I see that as the biggest over payment of the day.

Considering Reilly's slight frame, I almost have to believe that he is a more cerebral player than Morrow. Because Morrow is totally fringe in the NHL despite being a good skater and having a hard accurate point shot.
