Check out this incredibly bad bounce (several bad bounces actually, bad puck luck, or whatever you want to tag it) in an AHL game between Texas and the Moose in Winnipeg. This is in an NHL arena no less. A very weird roll off the boards.

CBJ leading the Canes 2-0 after one period.
If that holds, the two teams are tied with the Canes having a game in hand.

Columbus took the lead early and kept everything simple.
Philadelphia led Toronto 5-2 and managed to lose. I wonder where Carter Hart and Talbot are (hurt maybe?) because Elliot looked so very poor.

I saw parts of this & it was very annoying. The Leafs scored 5 straight goals on Elliot & won 7-6. I think Hart played last night but wouldn't Talbot be a better choice? I just don't understand why teams put faith in Elliot, especially when pushing for a PO spot. There is no way this game should have gotten away from them. Flyers management have themselves to blame. It's been a patchwork of journeymen netminders for years. They should be embarrassed that they have set a league record by using 8 goalies. Even when they found a quality goalie (Bobrovsky) they pretty much gave him away for a 2nd and two 4th rounders. BTW, that second rounder was used to draft Stolarz who they just traded to Edmonton & the other picks turned into nothing. Flyers fans are left to wonder how things would have been different if the two time Vezina winning goalie still played in Philly.

I cannot ever imagine cheering for a Leafs win, but this one was helpful.

I wonder if Molson ever reflects on why the heck he paid that man a sizeable head coach salary for six years. Making such a long commitment would seem to suggest, based on the law of supply and demand, that Therrien's coaching acumen and man management skills must have been in high demand around the National Hockey League. Odd, then, isn't it that NHL head coach openings have come and gone since Janary 2017 and moreover there are like seven clubs without head coach for next season and yet Therrien is not connected to any of them.

Therrien may have been bought out in full, but his contract extension runs through to the end of this season. A bit Cherry-esque of him to remind Geno (and everybody else) that he was there at the beginning of "the greatness". Any Crosby milestones ahead? Therrien replaced Olczyk 31 games into Sid's rookie season. Prior to the Crosby lottery win in 2005 were 3 years of low finishes/top picks...with another one the year following (Therrien's first year). Whitney #5 in 2002. Fleury #1 in 2003. Malkin #2 in 2004. Crosby #1 in 2005. THERRIEN COMES ABOARD Jordan Staal #2 in 2006. He walked into a winning core and still managed to get fired, only to see the team do a 180 to the Cup the same year.

They certainly have a problem with team defence...and Andersen has been suspect recently...(Boston will eat them alive if they play this way). Sparks was in net for all 6 tonight, so they can't depend on backup.

Another of Lecavalier's TB records falls this season in their win over Arizona. Kucherov had already broken his single season points record of 108. Now Stamkos scores his 384th career goal to set a new club record.
And TB clinches the President's Trophy with 9 games left.

After 5-6 weeks of playing good hockey, the Penguins are slumping a bit, three losses in a row. However, Pittsburgh is picking up loser points during the downturn. Part of the Habs problem coming down the stretch has been losing in regulation; in fact, Montreal's last ten losses on the season have been without a loser point.

That Canes shootout win over the Pens was not helpful.
Flames up 3-1 over Columbus in the second.

Who knows what Tortorella is thinking.
Columbus is really in a tough spot, not so much because the Habs are necessarily poised to pass them but rather because it is starting to look like their best case scenario is finishing #8 and facing the nearly flawless Tampa Lightning. I say this because making the playoffs is not any sort of 'mission accomplished' for the Blue Jackets. They have made a playoffs various times in recent seasons and have never won a series. So for a team to go all in, opting to let their star UFAs walk for nothing in the summer and spending a huge amount of draft pick capital on Duchene and Dzingel, and lose again the first round will be an unmitigated disaster.
For me that eventuality is on everyone's mind in Columbus.

Turned to the Yotes Panthers game and the place looks empty... how can the NHL justify that? The lower bowl is over half empty...

Willie, I agree. The McConnell family believes in John Davidson so I doubt Kekalainen is going anywhere. In fact, they are both under contract for three more seasons.
Tortorella, the likeliest individual to take heat, is signed through summer of 2021.
But even if stability is the order of the day, failing to advance beyond round one would be hard blow for the organization to process and bounce back from.

I watched the highlights of the CBJ game. It started well as they scored 1st. But then they proceeded to give up goals on odd man rushes. There really is no excuse for their defensive play last night, especially against a non playoff team.
