I mean the article appeases the leaf masses because they have the parade route already planned and Melnyk threw a whole bunch of shade on it ya I know. but what he said this morning . . . sheesh . . . what a bunch of bunk. ya . . . had to get rid of those three players 'cause they were going to cost too much because they're UFAs, going to go with youth and now there is money so sign players (except you don't have to pay "youth" as much. they'll just be able to re-run this interview in five years. and he has people chasing him down to build an arena in Lebreton? riiiggghhhttt. |

I guess Lebreton Flats is off the table now and they're going to be starting from scratch if they want a new rink ... won't get into it, but criticizing the Leafs was just plain stupid, IMHO ... imagine that, calling out the fans, the mayor and the media for the woes his organization is merely deferring blame on to others ... a poor carpenter always blames his tools, I guess ... Excellent points, Dis. This is all on Melnyk. On the hockey front, to lose Karlsson, Stone, Duchene, and Dzingel in less than twelve months is almost unfathomable. On the non-hockey front, he speaks and acts irresponsibly toward all relevant stakeholders (Sens fans, Rendez-Vous LeBreton Group partners, the media, politicians such as the Mayor and governmental entities like the NCC, etc.).
People like to laugh about Dorion (great amateur scout, though for me not strong on leadership, overall vision, and communication to execute his present role), but this is Melnyk's fault. He is both cheap and meddling.

This goal was amazing. I kept telling Mrs NWT to look up and watch the replay...and they replayed it a lot!!
McD and Draisatl also both hit 100 point season. First set of teammates to do it since 2009-10 with Ovechkin and Backstrom. First Oiler duo since the late 80’s. And yet they almost certainly won’t make the playoffs. What a managerial gong show for too long.

There's already media chatter about him being happy in Edmonton now, but for how much longer? If he's 25, and things haven't improved, will he want to stick around any longer? Legitimate questions. They've got to get the GM hire right. The GM has to get the hangers-on and Katz out of the equation. In fact, were I interviewing, it would be a stipulation of me accepting the job. Katz sits at home and counts his money. He and the kids aren't at the draft posing for pictures either. Go away. Whoever the President is, realizes it's my show. My vision. Go away. If that isn't acceptable to them, I don't take the job. |

Right now, McDavid is just amazing for Edmonton. He is akin to a king for the team and the city. At some point they have to repay the favour to where Edmonton is more amazing for McDavid. He is a legitimate star in this league, and he no doubt wants to win a Cup. At some point the club will have to show him that they have a legitimate vision and plan to make that more of a reality than it is currently.
Even the face of the franchise who is locked into a long term deal can still ask to be, or can be moved at some point. That would be a financial and PR disaster for the Oilers who are still filling the stands in the fancy new building and selling gazzilions of #97 orange jerseys right now.
