Colorado, with 90 points, has the 2nd wild card spot in the west. The Golden Knights, with 93 points, has 3rd spot in their division. Montreal has more points than three playoff-bound teams in the west, and they're on the outside looking in because they play in the most difficult division in the league.

I didn't bring myself to watch the video, but McDavid left the game against the Flames. Giordano made a play on the puck as Connor was driving, took his feet out, and Connor slid legs first into the post. Apparently the video shows him saying, "it's broken" in reference to his leg. He was helped off, and did not put weight on it according to accounts. Last game of the year. Injury eerily similar to Stamkos' a few years ago.

Not even the tiniest bit surprised at this. Rather, it was almost a given. Scherbak had far too much talent for his pathetic AHL numbers. I'm going to go as far as say that a lot of his lack of motivation has to do with knowing that if you don't make it, you can just sign for cash money in a less demanding league. It also should serve as a lesson to ANY team when drafting Russians. They don't have to bust their tails to make it to the NHL when in fact, they have a good paying alternative. Some may even prefer to do that because they are home-sick. Scherbak was ANOTHER first round mistake. And no, I do NOT wish him "good luck".

Some may even prefer to do that because they are home-sick. Scherbak was ANOTHER first round mistake. And no, I do NOT wish him "good luck". The knock on Nikita Scherbak was that he was lazy ... that might be true, but the organization can take responsibility for a once-dysfunctional development system that failed to provide the organization with any prospects that stuck with the big club for 4-consecutive years ... I agree that not all of our draft choices were good ones, but I can't believe that the 4-year drought was solely the result of poor drafting; not all of it, anyway ... I'm not sure if Scherbak actually would have made it, but he was one of those prospects that 'developed' under Sylvain Lefebvre and, like many of his peers under Lefebvre, his chances at making the Habs was minimal ... Cheers.

Did not expect to see MT back with an NHL club. Figured he was too old school for teams these days.
Oh well.

Assistant Coach, in charge of player degradation. Good thing, too. His exten$ion—courtesy of Carey Price—just expired.

Deboer, Bednar, Montgomery, Berube, Cassidy, Brind'Amour. A group I'd class as 'newer' coaches, (Deboer is an oldish variety of newish coach)
Tortorella, Trotz. Coaches I'd class as belonging to the 'old' core.
If I was hiring in a management position of any kind, I think I'd avoid most 'old core' applicants. Trotz has already been eliminated and Torts is clinging to the cliff edge. Hardly conclusive of anything, of course, but interesting, nonetheless.

Trotz accomplished a lot with that Islanders team this year. I wouldn't have any issue with him being a "next coach" if it were my club.

Sure, the new crop is showing that they belong, but there's always gonna be a new "new crop" eventually, followed by another, and another. So I'm not sure I would look at it as an old vs new situation. I'd look at it more as "those who adapt" vs "those who don't". I don't want a new style coach, I want a coach who can win in any era of the NHL, past present AND future. So far, Trotz is showing he can be just that.
I was a big Guy Boucher supporter at one point. He really was the prototypical new style coach. But he's a good example of a new style coach who really struggles to adapt. He's perfectly capable of giving you a winning season, but it'll only be one.

Bottom line is he just is not a top caliber coach.

Sergei Bobrovski's condo is Columbus is apparently for sale;
From watching the attached video I learned two things:
* That Sergei Bobrovski really likes chandeliers * What happened to former Blue Jacket's defenseman Jean-Luc Grand Pierre
My life is richer now for it.
