Columbus and Carolina both play their games in hand tomorrow. We'll see if the teams they're playing do us any favours.

Man, it is hard to be optimistic regarding Buffalo. That is a poorly coached team with no leadership core holding guys accountable. It is probably more likely that Sabres fans enjoying a few afternoon adult beverages will boo those guys off the ice when they are down three goals to Columbus after the first period.
Who knows about Pittsburgh and Carolina. Pittsburgh is at home and is better rested than the Hurricanes. Yet it would not shock me if this one turns into a three pointer.

I think part of the issue in Buffalo is the Pegula family that own the Sabres & the Bills. They pulled the plug on Rex Ryan as coach of the Bills after only 2 seasons & they did the same thing with Dan Bylsma and Tim Murray. They were gone after 2 seasons. Not enough time to establish things.
Murray went after Babcock & lost out. I wonder what would have happened if they won the lottery & drafted McDavid. Would Babcock chosen the Sabres instead?

What is it with the water in Montreal that stifles offense? It lasts a long time, too.

Am pleased that the Caps beat Tampa yesterday, ensure the Lightning can't catch the 76/77 Habs record of 132 points. It was silly comparing the two teams, but there seemed to be a lot of that happening.

How many of those 12 ties would that powerhouse have won with today's gimmicks? 70-8-2, 142 pts. is my guess. Lafleur-Lemaire-Robinson vs. nice try. Shutt-Gainey-Savard vs. good luck. P. Mahovlich-Cournoyer-Lapointe vs. no cigar.

Nylander scores but is way offside. It's called back. 0-0 late in 1st. Canes have more of teh play.
EDIT- Sparks is hopeless. Williams scores from behind the net.
1-0 Canes after one.
2-1 Canes after two.
Both Canes goals from behind the net.

DET beat PIT, so the Pens still have not clinched. They are two points up on CAR, and three on CBJ and us. They could still miss the playoffs. Not likely, but possible.

Ryan Poehling's mate Jimmy Schuldt signed with Vegas. There were many teams pursuing him, though I am not sure where Bergevin positioned Montreal in the chase. A left handed d-man who may not need much if any AHL seasoning (he will be 24 years old next month) would seemingly be a commodity who would have interested Montreal and it is not as though the Habs depth chart on the left side looks daunting.
I suppose McPhee sold him on immediate playing time for a team capable of making a spring run and he probably emphasized that with Brammstrom no longer in the organization Schuldt would have every opportunity to hold down a top four spot for seasons to come.

Have you ever been to Vegas? It's going to be vert difficult to compete against them when it comes to signing free agents.

I had heard that Montreal had at least inquired with Shuldt's camp. It's hard to compete with warm weather and no state income tax. That said, the strip doesn't interest me that much.

I liked Vegas a lot, people were friendly, weather was nice, there's lots to do and if you're making an NHL players salary, you're living large there. But like most service based cities, there is a lot of poverty/working poor. I see this whenever I go to Niagara Falls.

Gets pretty ghetto from everything i've seen and heard (had a few friends that lived/worked there for some time).

Tampa has been great this year. But I wanted to see how their record would stand in the old W-L-T format many of us grew up with.
Current record: 60-16-4-124 pts
Assuming no OT: 47-16-19-113 pts
Still terrific, but I was surprised to see how many OT wins Tampa has (7), which are treated the same as regulation wins for the purpose of tiebreaks. Tampa has won 59% of its games in regulation but OT and SO wins account for 22% of Tampa's 60 wins (13). Kind of puts a damper on the win total and makes the 1976-77 Habs even more impressive:
60-8-12. The Habs won an astonishing 75% of their games in regulation compared to 59% for Tampa and they have the same win total.

They only lost 28 points out of a possible 160 that season. That's an .825 wining %. Incredible numbers.

For sure, go Rangers go.
Man, you take a look at their lineup and you think what the heck is that club doing. And then it comes back to you, oh yeah they're rebuilding.
And I think I just heard the Rangers have only won 4 of their last 16 games, doh.
