I'm very happy with Struble. Best athlete in the draft in all likelihood. Check out his combine results.

I have no idea how Struble will work out, but one risk of picking a guy like Romanov early and getting a lot of kudos for doing so, is that you may be tempted to think you're that much smarter than everyone else and begin to act accordingly. Maybe Struble is another Romanov and maybe our guys really are smarter than everyone else. Over the years, I've seen the same scouting staff have cycles where they have a great year or two or stretches (Devils in Lamoriello's early years and Barry Fraser for Edmonton when they picked Lowe, Messier, Anderson, Kurri etc), and then they dry up for a long stretch. Timmins did it with 2007 and then not much until 2017, though he was hampered by not having a second rounder or first rounder for some of those years.

That seems foolish. Montreal has a lot of prospects needing pro contracts in the next couple of years. Most third and fourth rounders are kind of fringe in the big picture.

We traded. What picks did we get back? 64 and 126. Odd. Basically we are going off the board and they had nothing to pick. Hmmmmm...

I have started a Struble thread and some stuff I have found on him. Had him on my list...but later. Very raw compared to others.

I'm just steaming!! Makes zero sense as we watch these guys come off the board... They have to be convinced theyre the smartest guys in the room and everything they touch will turn to gold! Complete BS!

I'm very happy with Struble. Best athlete in the draft in all likelihood. Check out his combine results. That is why I figured TT would like him. He is also a great skater. Just in the third after getting two great guys in the second.

Yes, there were shinier names still available at this pick, but NHL.com had him ranked 48th in the final ranking, and 43rd midterm. I'm actually a little surprised that he wasn't an early 2nd round pick. He finished first in 5 of the 18 combine tests... Guys who perform that well often get taken a little earlier than originally projected. And he's still 17.

Another factor is that hockey itself changes (as it's been doing the last 5 years) and the scouts who were great at picking players with a certain style are no longer as effective. That's just a general comment, not directed at any team in particular.

Lernout was a workout monster...TT picked him and I hated it. Where is Lernout now? AHL journeyman.
If conditioning is a top metric for TT, we need a different scout.
