If vgk oust SJ tonight in 5 games, do the Sharks clean house?

I think that Joe Thornton, at 39, might be shown the door. But they still have productive forwards like Kane & Couture that are still productive. Can't see guys like that going.
They have had a competitive team for a long time with a great core but something is always missing. I like the way Wilson goes for it by making trades for guys like Kane & Karlsson & pitching for Tavares. I don't think he's the issue.
IMO they really need to look at a goaltending upgrade and go from there.

I can't watch playoff hockey without a layer of anger. The constant background..."where are my f***** habs" Winning with other teams... Pacioretty is quietly tied for top pts with Stone

Pavelski, Couture ... Doug Wilson has to come under fire at some point. I think he's a very good GM - you don't remain as relevant as they have for as long without having a good GM - but he hasn't been able to assemble a group that got them over the hump. One finals appearance since being hired 16 years ago. www.capfriendly.com/teams/sharksIt's interesting to look at their situation. Couture is 30 and has an 8x8 contract starting in the Fall. Burns seems like an ageless wonder, but Vlasic? He's got 7 more years at 7 million. Burns makes 8 million. Can they justify Karlsson?? Thornton, Pavelski, and Nyqvist are UFAs. Pavelski could be brought back as he's productive, but should they look elsewhere? Meier will need a significant RFA contract after his 30 goal, 66 point season.

I was guilty at not looking in depth at contract situations; only at the quality of the players involved. I don't have the expertise or time to really analyze this. I think the goaltending is a big issue. They are locked into Jones until 2024 & he had a poor year. He's 29 so Wilson has to hope it's an off year. But if he's bad again, it will submarine anything Wilson does.

Perhaps the worst.

Heartbreaker for Winnipeg.
Blues come back from 2-0 down....Bozak with a flutter pass to the slot and Schwartz knocks it in, mid-air, with 15 seconds to go.
Gritty road game from St. Louis.

Scheifle (sp?) with the giveaway. He scooped the puck off the boards & gave it right to Bozak.

And Trouba, who was covering Schwartz in front, tried to play the pass instead of tying up Schwartz's schtick.... As well, I think the puck went 6-hole on Hellebuyck. Everything right for the Blues. Reminded me of the Habs losing in the final second in Tampa to go down 3-0 in Round 2, 2015. Gut-punch.

Cheers.

A chance to go up 3-2 at home--with last change--and Boston simply did not play THEIR game.
Limited sustained pressure against Andersen until they were down 2-0 late.

Cherry just said Andersen is the best goalie in hockey. The same guy that allowed 5 goals 2 nights ago? Really? The man is a moron. For Pete's sake, he's 85. Put him out to pasture. It's embarrassing that Sportsnet think he fills a need on their broadcast.

I've seen GI called on plays like Hyman's on the the first Leafs' goal...as Rask was bumped and took a split-second to figure out what was going on.
That's all the time Matthews needed.
Oh well, if the Bruins play like that on Sunday afternoon, the Leafs will be going to Round 2.

In this series it shifts from game to game & I don't find the play of either team very inspiring.

Boston did not play with much sustained intensity when you factor in what was at stake in their own building.
When I was a kid, I hated the Bruins a thousand times more than the Leafs. Now honestly the dislike factor is about even.
Calgary is really playing poorly in this series. Winnipeg bums me out a little more because they are generally playing well against a solid opponent but the late game nerves and lapses have killed them.

Cherry just said Andersen is the best goalie in hockey. actually the second time he's said it this series, said it after game 3, boys on TSN690 were all over him I've seen GI called on plays like Hyman's on the the first Leafs' goal...as Rask was bumped and took a split-second to figure out what was going on. but GI on the Calgary goal was upheld? inconsistency is the only constant.

Calgary's been unable to finish the Avs off this series. Twice they had leads late into the third period, and twice they let the Avs in and lost in OT.

Night night Calgary.
Colorado’s big guns were dominant. Calgary’s big guns were dormant.

What's interesting is that TSN is critical of Matthews' goal--saying it should have been disallowed because of goalie interference.

Night night Calgary. Colorado’s big guns were dominant. Calgary’s big guns were dormant. Well played. I don't know how Smith played last night, but for a team that gave up as many goals as Calgary did in this series he was brilliant. I lost track of the number of huge saves he made. First half the year, goal tending was the big concern for Calgary. Smith found his game after Christmas. He's 37. Wonder who might give him a contract on July 1.

If Andersen is the best goalie in hockey, then Don Cherry is the smartest man in the world. Putting Fredrick Anderson on a pedestal might just motivate him enough to raise his game and I think Don Cherry probably knows that ... Jacques Demers did that with Patrick Roy in '93 ... Roy stood on his head in the playoffs and ended up with the Conn Smythe ... Cheers.

Cherry is a partisan TV blowhard who hasn't been involved in the NHL for decades.

It's embarrassing that Sportsnet think he fills a need on their broadcast. I'm not questioning Sportsnet or Cherry, upon whose value is based on viewership and $$. I'm questioning anyone who doesn't switch channels when Coach's Corner comes on. He's not entertaining. Without getting into the midden heap, I'll say he says nothing that adds any value to my knowledge of hockey or the game, and I'm not yet that smart, so I have lots to learn. He just doesn't have anything to teach me.

I've always liked Bill Peters' takes on hockey, but I have to wonder. He coached a Canes team that never made the playoffs, for various reasons, usually goaltending. He then takes over a Flames team that has some pretty good talent and some elite talent and they get bounced in the first round. Something seems amiss. The Avs aren't THAT good.
