There is something very fishy about the justifications of shutdowns.... 88% of the deaths are from people 65 and older. The other 12% are mostly from people who have underlying problems. So.....people with underlying problems and over 65 should stay home....and that should cover 95% of the deaths. However....entire society is getting shut down. Are we so politically correct to tell grandma and grandpa that they should stay the "heck" home? Or those with underlying problems? You simply can not base it solely on "infected" numbers because a lot of those showing positive are not a high risk of death. On top of that, they flash those numbers as though they are absolute indication of impending doom....although i suspect that the vast majority are from those who are in the low risk category. How about this....instead of screaming the latest shutdown, how about public airings on how to wear a mask properly, or heck, PROVIDE proper masks and educate. They spent half a trillion chasing the problem...and can't spend millions preventing it? If we look at the far east countries, they are obviously doing a much better job of educating the public in mask wearing and cleanliness then our so called "leadership". All ours seem to be really good at is panicking and shoveling money. In case you doubt the ability of societies to control the disease, their people taking responsibility and their leadership NOT hiding in a cottage and shoveling money....look at Taiwan. South Korea. Australia. Vietnam. Malaysia. China. Singapore. Hong Kong. Etc. Even Japan with a completely different level of population density, basically 125 million on a island the size of Newfoundland and Labrador. THEY have not shut down their industrialized society and demand and threaten people into house arrest to keep the virus under control. To be clear, yes, this is a deadly disease....but it is stupid leadership and stupid people which allows this disease to flourish..... www.google.ca/amp/s/beta.ctvnews.ca/national/coronavirus/2020/11/26/1_5205790.htmlwww.worldometers.info/coronavirus/gains could be made if parameters were changed. But not sure what is best to do?

It's 7:07 and waiting for my wife to finish shopping at Metro food store.
Area is mid to lower middle class with a few subsidized high rises.
From the 40 odd "set" of customers there was at least 10 couples with 1 to 3 children. About 20 children out of 100 people.
WTF is wrong with these people? Exactly how hard is it to just let one parent shop while the other are home in safety.
I never wish ill on others....but i can't muster any sympathy for mouth drooling stupid....

I hear you, Cranky. That baffles me too. Young kids are miserable to have in a supermarket in a Covid does not exist world. So why people choose to take them in there right now is puzzling. I guess that I could pardon a single parent who literally has no other choice.
Maybe supermarkets are being too permissive. All of our ice rinks only allow one parent/guardian inside with their child no exceptions, no changing rooms, kids have to arrive fully dressed and put their skates on chairs spaced like 5 m. apart.

The ice rinks got it right. And if people chose not to follow the rules, they should chose to ban them....for the greater good.
The problem with children....they are children. No amount of "don't touch this" is going to stop them from touching everything. Either spreading or getting the virus.
I'm also annoyed at these moron politicians who are not screaming more often.... "don't take your children shopping, don't shop unless you have too". They have no problem screaming about the idiots who don't wear masks, great, but are super gentle with the precious idiot parents who think shopping with children in tow is a family outing. WTH are they thinking? Let's all go out to get some meats, potatoes and....covid?
BTW.....I forgot to add.....I was waiting for my wife IN THE CAR...shivering. That's why I noticed who was going in and out.
~~~~~~~~
Oh.....and one more thing.....a bit earlier in the evening, there was someone behind me in a BMW tailgating and weaving all over the road. Tailgating like within 5 feet of me going 75kmh. It was so bad I wasn't sure what he/she was up to so I turned down a street ...he passed by...I turned around and continued on. Now he/she/it was about 200 feet in front of me and was weaving across two lanes. I've never seen anything like this, he/she was either having a huge medical problem, stoned or stone drunk, regardless, this was heading for a head on collision or a curb jump.....so I called 911. Gave them the street he was driving on, his heading, the car description and just followed him to see how long before the cops arrived. Several minutes and nothing.........
He/she/it turned into a shopping parking lot and I went on my way. Good luck to all.....
Not a good night. I was talking to someone and quipped "covid is making people stupid".....his response was "nope, not making them stupid, just exposing stupid". I buy that....
Mrs Dis went to the mall last week for the first time since February, and she won't be going back anytime soon ... mostly young people who feel they don't have to wear masks or honour social distancing ... to be fair, I could have been one of those young, indestructible, kids back in the day, but I'm somewhat grown up now, and it irks me ... we've been sticking to a routine and doing what we can ... we're selective when/where we go out ... # of positive cases in Kingston now sits at 54 ... that's not too bad, but that number is going to keep going up at least for the foreseeable future ... like, everywhere else, I guess ...
Cheers.
Also sped up and slowed down. The only upside is this was on a suburban street and not somewhere downtown where a curb jump would create body bags. Although....a head on is still a two ton head on. My car has surround cameras but the idiots at Benz decided it was too expensive to put in some memory, or better yet, accessable memory. One hour memory and you can bet i would access it and send a copy to the cops. I'm normaly live and let live....but this moron could of hit me from behind at 75 and drove me into a tree or concrete post. BTW...since then I've been in two stop-and-smell. I don't like them since I'm a non drinker/stoner, but if they catch the next moron...i'm all for it. As for texters....don't even bring them up. I ride and for us, they can be two tons of murder metal waiting to crush us.....
Its amazing that they cant provide a record button in the navigation system (almost all the cars have built in storage) and through bluetooth send it to the cops or if your car is connected you could 1 button sending the video.
I have to find a small, flat dashcam that aomehow integrates into the car system.
I never thought i would need something like that...but...
I should also ask a cop if they actually do something in a case like the weaponized moron. I doubt he would know who was behind him....but i wouldn't want to put my name on it lest it's some drug dealer. If they have the video, why would they need a witness?
Level the playing field? "Social justice" world to people like him and his kind means......those with far, far, far higher mortality rate can and WILL die based on their skin colour.
If this is what "ethics" means to people like him and his kind...then their fit to put a hood on them.
Which begs the question, how does racist and race baiting garbage like him have a teaching position in a university?
*sigh*
I'm fine with with the current Canadian policy of front line workers in health care, elderly over 80 and isloated indigenous communities. Then over 65 and secondary front line workers like police and fireman. Then the rest.
It's a bad time for last-minute purchases on Ontario ... we'll be in lockdown as of 12:01 AM, Dec 26th, and with Christmas only a few days away there's a last-minute buying surge on in Kingston ... I was listening to the news and the government is warning that the worst has yet to come, and the paranoia-induced spending over the lockdown doesn't help ... Mrs. Dis was at work today and, between giggles, she told me that toilet paper is flying off the shelves again ... I was at the Bulk Barn early this morning and 'most' people were trying to observe some semblance of distance (with very few exceptions it wasn't that bad) ... patience is the key, here ... the BB also provided sanitizer and disposable gloves (not always available everywhere) at the door ... every employee was wearing a mask ... got what I needed, and I was out of there ...
Cheers.
In and out Dis, but there will be loooong freezing lineups in our future.
Just talking to the big boss and we're clearing space to freeze milk and bread. Other supplies including that more precious then gold commodity, toilet paper, is stocked for the next several months.
This is lockup isn't a a technical inconvenience or economic issue, it just feels like punishment for other people's blatant disregard...
I blame the provincial and federal governments for all this. Borders should of been shut down from the start. And why is there a second wave? Maybe because they sent all the kids back to schools with lax rules and regulations to create a herd mentality? All it did was bring the virus home to all the unsuspecting parents and other family members.
Heard on news last night changes coming to Canada's travel rules January 7th. I don't know if more relaxed or tighter.
I am getting this itch to make a trip to Florida for couple weeks of Jays spring training.
Travel rules are like they should have been from the start.
To get into Canada, or back in if you are a vacationer, you have to provide a negative Covid test BEFORE getting on the plane. That test must be taken within 72 hours of reentering Canada. And regardless of the test result, once you arrive in Canada you must self isolate immediately for 14 days.
I don't understand how the rest of Canada doesn't get this. Stay the **** home, wear a mask when out.
Our sidewalk was icing up this week & we had run out of road salt. Before I finally broke down & made a quick trip to Sobeys, I was trying to break down the ice with table salt. Doesn't work that well because as you stand there & shake out the salt, it just blows away. I weigh the pros and cons of every trip outside the house & second guess every move I make. Great way to exist.
Anotjer day...another rant...
I was going through stats of how it's age related...but in fact, its all about underlying conditions. It wasn't even close. More like hundreds to one of people dying with underlying conditions versus dying with none.
The problem is what exactly is the level of underlying condition when they died. For example, was it Type 1 or Type 2 diabities? What level? Heart condition? What level?
Saying they had underlying conditions is a massivly large slate. Almost everbody who is older has some form of underlying condition that is easily manageble.
I have three, highish blood pressure, start of diabetes and cholesteral. The last two the last year or so. So of course it scares the hell out of me...but are they talking at my level or serious levels?
So bloody annoying this ahole politicians and "experts" along with their lap dog media. We need REAL information on REAL dangers on ways to protect ourselves and the risks we face.
Screaming with their hair on fire is simply the old pure garbage way of "we go stupid but we do it for your own good". No, in fact, they are stupid. They have risen to politically elite level where they control our lives with scarcely any technical knowledge other the their "gift" of bs spouting, blabbering confidence games and fake sympathy.
Does ANYONE believe they understand the issues and take the wisest course of options? Or is it more like...what course of action to take that makes them popular or least blamed.
Flights? Can't stop those. Protect the elderly warehouses? "We're trying". Yeah, it shows. Limited shopping? Only after everyone goes nuts with xmas shopping.
Better yet...now they control our vaccines. That will go well....really well. For sure. Yup.
*sigh*
Proper mask wearing and hand cleaning is 90% of the game. Mitigating mistakes on the above is the another 8%. Product washing and additional steps are the last 2%. If it's something like masks...due to business and profession, i've been wearing or directing people on proper wearing of masks ALL my adult life. If you need help or advice, pm me. Or we can do it publically. Just open a thread. I'd be proud to be of any help. Anywho...this effen virus and all the surrounding garbage is getting to me....plural...its getting to us. We've got to manage it and keep our sanity intact.
