It's Timmins! What can we do? Very disappointing night. I guess he never liked LaPierre Timmins avoiding Quebec league as usual. He'd better work out better than Mercer or Lapierre... Reminds me of '06 Draft. Took a defenseman and I was online begging him to take Giroux. Be interesting to see who Philly picks? Bourque? History be repeating itself.

This is where MTL should package two second rounders to move up and select Lapierre

Trade, WAS trading up from 24 to 22. Clearly someone was going to go at 23...

Treveling picking up third rounders like candy for trading down twice like two slots each time.

This is where MTL should package two second rounders to move up and select Lapierre I was really annoyed at joining that playoff bubble nonsense (I would actually have stripped the team further at the deadline so there would have not been an 'invitation'). You can see now where we end up with Guhle instead of Perfetti or Rossi, and where we might have been able to package 2 high 2nd rounders for a late 1st to grab Lapierre (who I think is well worth taking a chance on). Sigh.

Anaheim must be feeling good about life, #6 (Drysdale) and #27 (Perreault). That's a really nice haul.

So what time does round 2 start? 11:30 ET. Lots of good options for those 3 seconds if Berg keeps all his picks. He can really add some skill and size up front today and balance out this draft quite nicely for the team.

Anaheim must be feeling good about life, #6 (Drysdale) and #27 (Perreault). That's a really nice haul. It is a nice first day. Ottawa’s haul with Stützle, Sanderson and Greig (many Gally comparisons) is an incredible first day, and they are still loaded with great picks today. Of course Dorion will just have to trade them all away one day once they hit their peak......

I am curious how the second round will unfold today. For me Bergevin and Timmins played is way too safe at #16, which places pressure on them to find diamond in the rough offensive difference makers in round two.
Well, there are fifteen picks (#32-46) standing between Montreal and its next infusion of talent. I tend to believe the following prospects will come off the board before the Habs pick again: Gunler, Mysak, Peterka, Grans, O’Rourke, Wallinder, Bordeleau, Khusnutnidov, Colangelo, Poirier, Smilanic, Ponomaryov, Niemla, and Cormier.
The kids that I rate highly and see as being likely available are: Savoie, Jarventie, Pashin, Nybeck, Tuch, Niederbach, Nybeck, Hirvonen, and Sourdif. Among them, I believe Tuch and Sourdif are relatively safe picks without serious upside and I hope Montreal can grab one them at #56. My picks at #47-48 are Jarventie and Niederbach. Jarventie is among the youngest for this draft year and he has a big winger frame which should fill out nicely, plus he skates very well and possesses the gift to snap off quick and heavy wristers. I am a little wary of Swedish centres in the second round after De la Rose and Olofsson, jeje, but Niederbach is a totally different than those guys. He is a creative centre who thinks the game rapidly and boasts the skill-set to execute the kind of plays that he anticipates on the ice.
After taking a couple home run swings, at #56 I would look for a safer prospect. Tuch, Sourdif, Foudy, Pytlik, and Torgersson all seem to fit that profile. If Tuch is gone, I would probably go with Pytlik because I like his blend of size, smarts, and versatility.

Ottawa grabbed Jarventie earlier than Button and McKenzie had him going. Dorion always looks nervous in front of the camera and communication is not his strong suit, but he is a really good amateur scout.

Win over Pitt really expensive. We would have Rossi and Gunler not sure MB would have taken Rossi (though I'd want him to). smallish . . . and don't the Habs have enough of those guys already? I like the Guhle pick and the Anderson trade . . . the team needs a bit of meanness.

I like the Guhle pick and the Anderson trade . . . the team needs a bit of meanness. For all we know, Guhle would've been their guy at #9. As to Anderson, I'm not sure we trade Domi for him without the bubble play that confirms Suzuki and KK are ready.

For all we know, Guhle would've been their guy at #9.As to Anderson, I'm not sure we trade Domi for him without the bubble play that confirms Suzuki and KK are ready. It would be a huge surprise if Guhle was their pick at 9. There was a clear delineation of tiers and Guhle was in the 2nd group while the picks up to 12 were in the first group. There is a distinct cost between 9 and 16 and I think we will see it quite clearly in the years to come. I've always said that if a player is going to progress they will do so whether or not they play a few extra playoff games in their careers. KK putting on some extra weight and strength didn't happen during the playoffs but before. The Habs used up a #3 pick on him and you have to have some confidence that he will prove he was the right choice. Suzuki had already shown what he is and will be. In any case, my plan (trading away more elder statesmen at the deadline) would have had the Habs finishing a lot lower than they did and being completely out of any play in picture. Time will tell which strategy would have worked out better.
