Farrell gets an assist on Chicago’s fifth goal. They win 5-1. Farrell’s 80th point of the season.

A couple of prospects saw their seasons come to an end today.
Loko eliminates SKA and Gordin with a 3-2 win to take their quarter final series 3-1.
St Cloud State just beat Boston U 6-2 to advance to the regional finals. Tuch had an assist on the second BU goal.
Biondi (UMD) is the last NCAA prospect left, but they are in tough against the top team in the nation in a North Dakota at 7:30pm today.

UMD wins in the 5th OT period. Off to the Frozen Four for the Bulldogs and Biondi. Now, Scott Sandelin basically ran three lines all game, so Biondi sightings were rare. He was the WJC coach that made really odd decisions with Caufield two WJC ago. UMD is the two time defending champs, as they did not finish the season last year.
North Dakota came in as the top team in the NCAA. They are essentially a Senators farm team, with top prospects Pinto, Bernard-Docker, Sanderson and Leven leading the team. The Sens do have some great prospects. Too bad Dorion (or successor) will have to trade them for magic beans once they get to be stars they cannot afford them any more.
Hey Sandelin, free Biondi on April 8th lol. Edit: Biondi was actually on when they scored the winner in 5OT. He and his mates were well rested, unlike pretty well everyone else.

Farrell ties a team all time single season points record with 82 points after a goal and an assist tonight. The Steel lost 4-3 in a shootout to the NTDP U18s in a game they likely deserved to win. His assist was nice, as was his short handed goal. Cue the video.

Fairbrother had another two assists in Everett’s 6-1 win last night. The Tips are off to a very impressive 5-0 start. The team has only conceded 2 goals in those 5 games and Gianni has 6 assists and is +7 in that stretch.

Following in the footsteps of Primeau who had a shutout earlier, Jakub Dobes recorded a 33 save shutout for Omaha against Fargo (who is ahead of them in the standings).
Everett lost their first game a few night ago, but bounced back with a nice 3-1 win last night. Fairbrother scored his first of the season.
Pitlick and Smith went head to head, but neither guy recorded a point.
Farrell set a new team single season point total with his assist in the first period. He then added to it with his 84th point with a goal to tie it in the third. Dubuque scored later in the third shorthanded to sneak out the 5-4 win.

He is a great PXP guy. He has nicknames for most of the Steel players. I always pick their audio when watching the Steel play. He has recently starting calling Farrell “wildfire”, as he kept the odd “meatloaf” tag before. No idea why, but it was fun.

A couple of nice nights in the USHL. Farrell pads his record setting points season for Chicago with two goals and a helper in a 7-2 win against Dubuque, a team on a roll of late trying to pass the NTDP for the last playoff spot. He leads the league with 87 points, now 12 points up on teammate Coronato.
Pitlick awoke again with two points against Sioux Falls and Jack Smith. He also got the nod as the first star of the game.

Both our Swedish guys are in playoff action today.
Norlinder and Frölunda are in the 1/8 final play-in series, that is a best of three between teams 7-10 to get the final two SHL quarter final spots. Norlinder has an assist in their 3-1 win today. A well positioned pass looking for the tip.

A couple of dudes in action last night. Fairbrother added a couple of PP helpers in a come from behind 6-4 Everett win (they scored four unanswered for the win).
Joni Ikonen added a nice, and rare, assist. He is the winger streaking on the far side, with a nifty backhand to the guy in the slot who scores.

Bad news: Djurgårdens smoked Frölunda 7-2 in game two of their play in series.
Good news: Norlinder scored both goals. They were both doozies.

Frölunda prevail today 4-0 and take their best of three series to move into the quarter finals. Norlinder with two tripping penalties.
Joni Ikonen ripped a nice one timer in his Liiga game today.

Other prospects not named Caufield played today too.
Timrå went up 3-1 in their semi final series. Olofsson held pointless.
Fairbrother with another assist in a 4-3 Everett win.
Dobes with 26 saves in a 3-2 win over tough Fargo.
And Farrell recorded his 60th assist and 88th point of the season.

Rögle beat Frölunda 5-2 today to go up 2-0 in their quarter final series. Rögle is the highest scoring team in the league and is heavily favoured in the series after all. They were the SHL team that tried to lure Caufield over to play this season.
Norlinder with an assist on one of their two goals.

Olofsson with a nice tip in front to put Timrå up 2-0 in their potential semi final series clinching game. They are up 3 games to 2 late in the third. #38 in white.
Edit: they win the game 3-0 and the series 4-2. They will be playing for promotion to the SHL.

Frölunda is facing elimination today at the hands of tough Rögle. It is 3-1 right now in the second. Norlinder has his team’s only tally so far. That is his third goal and fifth point in his 7th playoff game, so he is bringing it when it counts.
Update: 6-1 final so Rögle sweeps the series. Norlinder’s season is done.

Just for kicks, here is a video of Kieran Ruscheinski’s first career BCHL regular season goal. He did score one playoff goal last season. You have to wait until the end of the video as there are three other goals first...but this is such a rarity that it is worth the wait. The Silverbacks did fight back to tie the game, only to lose in OT tonight.

Norlinder’s club hockey is done, but het gets some time with the national team now. Hope he gets to play at the Worlds, as that would be a great experience and fun to watch.
For those wondering, the IIHF World Championship starts May 21 in Riga.

Farrell with another goal and assist last night, for 29 goals and 94 points after 50 games. They have two more games left in the regular season.
The Steel were down 2-1 with a minute and a half left when Farrell scored this beauty to force OT. The Steel then won it in OT 3-2.

Joni Ikonen is the latest prospect to see his season come to and end. Top ranked Lukko swept Ilves 3 games to nil in their quarter finals. Ikonen ends the year with only 5 points in 23 games, although the good news is he finished a season without major injury after missing almost two years of hockey. The Habs lose his rights in June this year. I don’t expect he will get an ELC give the competition for ELCs these days.
And onto another guy in action last night who already has his ELC in hand. Gianni Fairbrother had an assist in Everett’s 5-0 win. He now has 15 points in 15 games (1g 14a) in the short WHL season so far.
