TB also demonstrates what great scouting can do. Its hard to believe that they got Kucherov at 58 and Point at 79. Man, the last 2 playoffs, Point has been pure gold. Saw a lot of whining in the Sportsnet comments on the TB game. Some geniuses actually saying the the Bolts were cheating on the cap by being able to bring Kucherov back for the playoffs. It shows a stunning lack of understanding of tne rules. I'm sure if Matthews had been out all season & came back for the playoffs, these homers would not be bringing up cheating allegations. What annoys me far more than the situation above (which is available to any team suffering key injuries and about to have their star player return by the playoffs) is the ongoing advantage the Bolts have with no state tax in Florida. I don't care much about the argument that there are ways to get around that in Canada. The point is that players are not choosing that option, probably because it's far more complex than just getting your extra money up front. So Tampa and Florida and Dallas and Carolina and Nashville all have this built in advantage. North Carolina has a state tax but its 5%. Colorado's state tax is 2.9% BC's provincial tax for example, above $222,000 is 20.5%. There's no way Tampa could have gotten away with paying Stamkos $8.5MM if there was a 20% state tax. That's a $2MM advantage. Tampa, the Panthers, the Preds, Stars and Golden Knights all have, instead of an $81MM CAP, a $101MM CAP. Carolina's is about $97MM. Colorados is about $99MM. The Kraken will have that $101MM CAP as well. It's a completely uneven playing field. Don't think it matters? The top teams this year by points Vegas 82 Colorado 82 Carolina 80 Florida 79 Yes, there are other factors involved, but how we rate management is tied into success and points and isn't it odd that so many of the top teams either have no state tax issues or almost none? The CAP formula has to be amended. Otherwise, get used to the southern teams dominating the Stanley Cup for decades.

In the Caps Bruins game marchands gets pushed to the ice in front if the caps net and the douche, as hes getting up, punches the caps player in the nuts... I wonder if the DoPes will do anything... I hope Wilson takes his head off

Watching Colorado beat St. Louis and Carolina beat Nashville. They both can skate like the wind with high end talent. Makes the Habs look very slow and old. Way to go Berg.

Must be really weird for players from Vancouver and Calgary still playing out the schedule while the playoffs are starting.

Samsonov with a great game vs. the Bruins...but miscommunication behind his net with Schultz in 2OT...and Smith with the wraparound before Samsonov can figure things out.
Boston forcing the issue throughout OT.

Not sure what Schultz was thinking. He turned away from the puck & gave Smith a path to the net.

I was watching highlight packages on YouTube this morning. I was surprised by the number of goals scored but I was a lot more surprised by the number of people in attendance in Minnesota, Tampa & Long Island. The arenas looked almost full.

Edmonton’s offence has done a McDisappearing act against the tight checking of the Jets, who head home up 2-0. Hellebuyck seems to have found his form again after struggling down the stretch.
Oil Nation in a state of shock.

Ya, Edmonton with one goal in 2 games plus the OT.
And the winner by Statsny - a wrister from the circle. Ugly. Beats Smith high, short side glove. That's what I never liked about Smith. He had a strong 60 minutes than allows a very stoppable shot in OT.

Florida puts on a real bush league performance in the 3rd today. Trailing 6-2 with 10 minutes left , it seems the point of the game from then on was to injury TB players.
Hornqvist takes down Cernak with a chop to the ankle. The referees could of contained this by giving him an extra 10 but chose just the minor penalty. He comes back later in the period and blindsides Sergachev into the boards. And Duclair puts Kucherov out with a two hander in the back of the leg.
It was worthy of Slapshot including Quenneville who lost control of his team or just didn't care.
Bolts are now up 3-1 & Florida really looked outclassed today.

In just over 3 minutes, the Jets score 3 to tie the Oilers at 4.
Now in OT. If the Oilers lose this one...it's O-ver.

Ya. Edmonton ran out quickly to a 2-0 lead in the 1st and had a 4-1 lead with 8 minutes to go and managed to blow it.
Stastny scored the winner in game 2 and set up the winner last night with a clean face off win to Ehlers.
And Colorado makes short work of the Blues, finishing the sweep last night.

He had a strong 60 minutes than allows a very stoppable shot in OT. Have to disagree with you on this goal. As Stastny cut toward the middle and you could see the two Oiler players crisscrossing, I wondered if Stastny would shoot as the two blocked Smith's view. He did and managed to get it through, which was the hard/lucky part. The tactic, though, is textbook. I think MOrrissey's goal in the 3rd game was one he should have stopped. It knuckled a bit, but still...a wrist shot from where Morrissey took it, with no one in front has to be stopped.

The Avs, unless they suffer some injuries, are the slight favourites, to me. They may be the fastest team in the league. Great transition, and enough big bodies on D to avoid being worn down. And then there's McKinnon. If there's a team that can take down Tampa, it's the Avs. That would be a hell of a final. Your head would be whipping back and forth like a tennis match. Sheesh....Bowen Byram isn't playing and their defense is that good. It helps having only a 2.9% state income tax. PS, if Montreal can pry Byram away, I'd give Sakic the crown jewels. That kid is going to be a terror.

To rub a little salt in the wounds of Oilers fans, it was the wrong Connor (Kyle, that is) that was the 3OT winner in a marathon match that ended their season in four straight.

In 2OT, Jarry passes it right to Bailey who puts the Isles up 3-2 in the series.
Sorokin stops 48 of 50. Crosby, Malkin, and Letang have seen that movie before....

I was thinking that Vegas was one of the favorites but after seeing them get shutout by Cam Talbot , again in this series I'm starting to wonder. They had the Wild down 3-1 at one point and couldn't put them away last night, losing 3-0. Series is now tied at 3.

Start times for the three non-Canadian divisions set. VGK-MIN game seven tonight to determine the final spot in those three series. Go Wild Go...cheering for an underdog to take out a very strong Vegas team.
On a side note, given Vegas’ success since expansion, it does seem odd they are exempt from the Seattle expansion draft.
