With Norlinder assigned to Laval for the next three games, I thought I might post this little nugget here as it brings up an important crossroads for the Habs and Norlinder. As he was on their roster as of December 1st, the Habs are no longer obligated to send him back to Frölunda where he is still under contract for this season. They are a top club in SHL, likely playing for a championship and also competing in the European club Champions Hockey League. On the flip side, the Habs can send him to Laval to help him adapt to the smaller ice surface and quicker decision making that would still be required to excel in the AHL. With Laval injuries, he can also play a lot and in key situations.
It will be interesting to see how they handle this (at the core of what should be a new player development approach as promised by Gorton). The kid has lots of talent, but still has things to work on. Just look at Romanov lately. Whatever he and Richardson have been working on is paying off big time. He is carving out his spot and showing his long term value at the NHL level.
Anyway, player quotes out of context are sometimes nothing more than click bait or how a person was feeling at a point in time ( and not necessarily how they feel right now). It could also be a case of a young player used to lots of ice time in the SHL, and feeling a bit frustrated and homesick with his marginal usage with the Habs so far. Handle this one properly, Gorton and company.

The Rocket are hurting from injuries and loads of call ups, but have pieced together a string of some pretty good gutsy games of late. They have picked up 7 of 8 points over a four game stretch.
Two prospects were in the spotlight in last night’s 3-2 win over the Moose. Norlinder scored his first AHL goal on the PP and added an assist, and Primeau stopped 39 saves for the win.
Nice bump pass for an assist.
Nice wrister for his goal.

Nice wrister for his goal. Wow, a D-man who can get the puck on net about 18 inches off the ice... Hey Dom, couldn't you use someone like that on the Power Play?

I wondered if this might happen once he was assigned to TR to start the season. All the best back home, Arsen.

More views on how the Habs are handling (or mishandling?) Norlinder so far.

Yeah, Vejdemo scored a pair to jump past Belzile into the all time Rocket scoring lead, but the lads did lose 5-3 to Rochester. Norlinder also added an assist on the third goal.

I think this is the right move. Let him get tons of ice time on a championship team. Get some confidence and come back next season when there is a better player development team in place and likely a new guy behind the bench.

The depleted Rocket found a way to win another last night, doubling up on the Bruins 6-3. McNiven was in net for the win. RHP has been hot of late and added two assists. Hillis and Vejdemo both scored as well. The PP was clicking, with 3 goals! Fairbrother also returned to action after missing time due to injury.
Interesting little fact. The B’s first goal was scored by D’Aoust who was signed to a PTO a few days ago. He has been ripping it up in the ECHL for our very own Trois-Rivières Lions this season.

Vejdemo’s goal.
Hillis pounces on his own rebound for his goal.

The Lions are playing good hockey right now. Solid goaltending and decent scoring is helping getting those wins. They go into the Xmas break comfortably in second in their division behind perennial contender Newfoundland Growlers.

A flash from the past. Cool. With all the lack of bodies, he should gets lots of chances to get decent ice time.
From the “where are they now” file!

Well, good luck to him ... he hasn't played in the NHL since 2019, but he's still only 29 years old ... hope he can find his game and contribute, even if it's only at the AHL level ... the Rocket need it more than ever now ... it's up to him, now ... Cheers.

Wow, what a crazy season at all three hockey levels of the organization. No one can accuse Molson (Groupe CH) of finding ways to 'go cheap' during this disastrous season (both in terms of hockey and revenue). Montreal leads the league in salary expenditures for its NHLers. Meanwhile, the Rocket and the Lions are cycling through additional players due to the trickle down effect of Covid, so their budgets are under duress.
Gorton will have to demonstrate serious smarts to deal with the cap problems Bergevin left the club because with this now being the third season where Covid is wrecking havoc hockey related revenue, I do not foresee the salary cap reaching $90 million until 2028.

The lost games are being rescheduled for later this season.
And it is finally game day again baby! Albeit in front of no fans. Dea, Hillis and McNiven assigned to Laval and a number of guys called up from 3R just to field a team.

A very depleted Rocket lineup filled with ECHL callous and a few regulars pulled off the unlikely victory tonight over the Syracuse Crunch. McNiven with 29 saves was the first star and JS Dea scored the GWG after being sent down by Montreal without getting an NHL game in.

Coach Houle has his much-depleted, rag-tag group of gypsies playing pretty great hockey right now. They came back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to win 4-3 in OT last night. With Primeau with the Habs and McNiven on the taxi squad, they had to start Kevin Poulin who was a big part of their win. QMJHL grad Justin Ducharme has been called up from 3R and scored his first AHL goal. JS Dea scored the GWG for the second straight game. DSP assisted on the first goal for his first point back in his return.
Not too many NHL contracted guys or prospects playing right now due to injuries up in Montreal, but their game tonight is free on AHL TV. You just need to have an account set up (free to set up, it just costs to buy a plan to watch the games normally). Game time against Hartford is 7:30 ET.

Other than Saturday’s 4-0 loss, the Rocket have been doing really well of late with what looks like a glorified ECHL lineup with a few AHL vets thrown in. Kudos to JF Houle and his team for staying competitive with such a depleted lineup (hey Habs coaches, take note). The possibility of more reinforcements is coming with Jöel Teasdale practicing in a regular jersey and hoping to make his season debut soon. Vet defender and team captain Xavier Oullet is also back on the ice, albeit with a non-contact jersey still.
Teasdale has only played 26 games since his 2018-19 Memorial Cup run season. The guy needs to play hockey.
The return of the taxi squads will still keep AHL guys out of AHL lineups like it did last year, but that is the same for all teams. At least the quality and quantity of available players for the Rocket is trending in the right direction. And with Toffoli and Byron poised to return this week and Gally possibly within a week or two, the domino effect will see more roster movement that will likely impact the Rocket in the near future.

I am not going to let some hiring of an obscure dude from Beaconsfield get in the way of me keeping you all up to date on the prospects and farm teams. Here is today’s news that you were all waiting for: Alex Belzile cleared waivers.
All kidding aside, the Rocket should have an improved lineup for their next game tomorrow night. The AHL did announce that the weekend’s B2B against Belleville has been rescheduled for later in the year. That means they don’t play until the 28th after tomorrow night.

The Rocket pulled off another impressive win last night, 4-3 against Utica the AHL’s top team. Ylönen scored two PP goals, Belpedio blasted one from the point, and Abbandonato scored his first AHL goal this season that was the GWG. Poulin got the win in net.
Ylönen last night: Hey Mr. Hughes, don’t forget about me!

Some long term injury updates.
Teasdale has been cleared to play. We should see him this weekend for his season debut.
Brook is skating with the team, but still sporting a non-contact jersey. He will not play this week, but is close.
