The Rocket pulled off another impressive win last night, 4-3 against Utica the AHL’s top team. Ylönen scored two PP goals, Belpedio blasted one from the point, and Abbandonato scored his first AHL goal this season that was the GWG. Poulin got the win in net. Ylönen last night: Hey Mr. Hughes, don’t forget about me! Somehow, it feels like Hughes will have a better memory than his predecessor for non veterans.

Ouellet joined Teasdale as a player given the green light to play this weekend. In other good news on the return from injury front, Brook was wearing a full contact jersey for the first time. Coach Houle still feels he is a couple of weeks away as he no doubt has to get back in game shape/timing and get some good practices in. Promising news nevertheless.
The Rocket prepare for a busy second half sitting in a playoff position right now and having won 8 of their last 10, mainly with a severely depleted lineup.
Next games are a pair against the Texas Stars this weekend. Hey, Caufield is stuck in Wisconsin and cannot cross the border for five days. Send him to join Laval in Texas and at least he can play meaningful minutes on Friday and Saturday instead of sitting out a few games until Dom is ready to put him back on a bottom six line.

Agree. I really hope Brook can take the next step and breakout. It's been disappointing since his top defenceman win in the world juniors.

Agree. I really hope Brook can take the next step and breakout. It's been disappointing since his top defenceman win in the world juniors. Between big injuries and a disappointing first pro season, I really don’t know what we have in Brook. It is key to get some games in for a bit of a decent stretch. He was looking better by the end of last year, in that weird short COVID season where Laval only played a few Canadian opponents (Belleville, Toronto, Manitoba and the temporarily relocated Calgary farm team). He just needs to play some meaningful hockey now and be tested/pushed. The Habs just returned Schueneman to Laval, and if Niku clears, that is the best top six D corps that Laval has seen. That competition will push Brook.

After losing 6-1 to Texas last night, the boys dug in and managed the split on the road. Guindon with his first start for Laval and win. Ylönen with two assists to keep his good thing going.

Vejdemo and Niku to Laval.
Weirdly, McNiven injured too. That definitely was rough one period of NHL hockey on him in more ways than one.
This team has no healthy goalies. Yikes.

A big 6-2 win against Syracuse tonight. Fresh off his call up from 3R, Hillis scored two from the 4C position. Abbandonato had a three point night (1+2) and he has been putting up points since coming up from 3R a while back. Teasdale scored in the final seconds for his first goal in ages, after just getting his first action in this season after a long recovery from injury.

It is official. Primeau gets sent to Laval.
They just beat Syracuse 5-1 today to sweep a three game mini series against the Crunch this week. Great result and I will post more on the last two games later.

Laval came off a big weekend sweep of Syracuse last weekend to solidify a playoff spot in their division as of now. Saturday’s game also featured Josh Brook’s first game action all season as he was finally cleared to play after recovering from off season surgery. Coach Houle used him as the 7th D to ease him back into game action and to help him get back into game shape.
They were supposed to play last night in Belleville and start a very compressed schedule of 15 games in 25 nights due to all those COVID make up games. However, they had to postpone that game as they had to place four players and one staff member into COVID protocol. Who knows what that will do to their pending games. They have a few this weekend.
They are facing a few key injuries up front, so had to call up some forwards from 3R. Who knows how this latest news affects the current lineup. They were quite healthy in D and in net now that Primeau, McNiven and Poulin are all there. Of course, I don’t know which players have been just sidelined though.
It will be interesting to see how Horton manage personnel to both ensure Laval does maintain its playoff spot, and also to allow some opportunity for the young guys currently with the Habs to get some playoff action in the farm. If they move roster players by the deadline and don’t get contracted players back, it could leave both teams a tad short in the short run. If they get young contracted players back in those trades, then that will work out really well for Laval in the short run. More fun trade deadline dominoes.

Laval off to Syracuse today with the bare minimum of players, including some 3R call ups and a dude signed to a PTO from another ECHL. They left behind 6 players, including John Brook (the guy has no luck this year), due to COVID and are missing other key guys due to injury. Loads of hockey coming up due to the compressed schedule. They are just in “hanging on” mode now.

The severely deleted Rocket lost 5-2 to Syracuse last night. The one highlight of the night? Ylönen’s rocket one-timer PP goal.

Rocket beat Rochester 5-1 today. Primeau in net. Hillis with a 1+1 game so far. Desruisseaux, Abbandonato, Dea and Niku (ENG) with the other goals.

First AHL goal. Good for the call up from 3R. The kid is a past QMJHL scoring champ (as is Abbondanato).

Laval back in the win column last night with a 2-1 shootout win over Cleveland. Poulin gets the win. It looks like he is the #2 ahead of McNiven right now, which is not surprising given how well he was playing before Primeau and McNiven were sent down. Goals by Martel (in regulation) and in the shootout by Ylönen (a sweet goal) and Fortin. Speaking off Jesse, he just missed scoring a highlight reel worthy effort in OT. Fairbrother also played after returning from his latest injury. Coach Houle sat out Brook as he is still working on gaining back his game shape after being out all year after knee surgery.
Feels good to win after totally blowing their last game on the weekend. They had a 3-0 lead with just over 10 to play in the third only to lose to Belleville 4-3 in regulation. Primeau was in net.

More bad news on the injury front for Laval, who are already playing with a decimated lineup.
Bisson out until mid-April, Fairbrother until May.
Ouch.

The Rocket snapped a two game losing streak with a big 7-4 win over the baby Rangers last night. Primeau got the win despite giving up four goals as his teammates more than made up for it with a touchdown of goals.
Teasdale had the GWG and his first AHL hat trick in a 3G 1a night. RHP added a goal and two assists and Gignac had a big night with a goal and three helpers. Paquette made his Rocket debut and was held without a point.

So, no paper transactions to make some current Habs players eligible for the Laval Rocket playoff run. The Rocket will be able to add prospects once their CHL or NCAA seasons are over, and that has the potential for a nice boost. Of course, getting some of their injured guys back would go a long way too.

Reinforcements from today’s moves! Great for Laval. And with Barron, great for Montreal in the future. Schnarr is a great add for the AHL.

Neat little touch by soon to be new Rocket player as he heads their way. A 6’3” centre who can put up points is always a great add for a playoff run, but it is a bonus when that player is also one of the top scorers on the team in first place in your division, and the team you are chasing and could even meet later in the playoffs.
