Between all these crazy injuries and guys called up and stuck in Montreal, the Rocket seem to always be fielding a patchwork team. With Niku in Winnipeg temporarily to be with his wife for the birth of their child and all these guys injured, they will have three guys signed to PTOs on D for tonight’s key divisional game against Belleville. They could use a Barron or Schueneman or two 😉.
Schnarr to make his Rocket debut tonight on a line with Ylönen.
The Rocket’s unsung hero this season has to be head coach JF Houle. He has done a great job keeping a constantly undermanned squad competitive and with a winning record. The player who has really taken charge has been RFP who is showing that dogged determination and effort can offset a smaller frame and underwhelming skating. A true heart and soul guy on this team. He has earned that nickname that I have seen thrown about on sites: Lavallagher. #11

A few days ago, Rocket are in one heck of a playoff battle. They are currently second in the North, and the top five get in. However, numbers two to six right now are separated by a tiny tiny win percentage, so it really is going to be a heckuva stretch run with every game important.
A few days ago, the Rocket lost a key divisional matchup 2-1 against Belleville in OT, so at least they got a point, but they gave sixth place Sens two points.
They were far more convincing last night, with a solid 5-1 victory over Lehigh Valley (Philly’s farm team) behind a 31 save effort from Poulin. Cedric Paquette is in a nice groove right now as he lead the way with two goals and an assist for the first star. He scored Laval’s only goal in that 2-1 extra time loss. He is “having fun playing hockey again” after a pretty rocky year in Montreal.
No rest for the wicked as the Rocket meet up with the Baby Pens for a matinee game today.

Trips-Rivières adding some depth too in the form of an ex-Bulldog/Ice Cap. 3R has been impacted by all the call ups to Laval due to injuries/call ups throughout the two higher levels of the organization.

Primeau did his bit tonight. Sounds like Brook could be ready to go tomorrow night in the rematch. Just send down Barron too lol!

Some Laval help for now. PTO for this season, NHL deal next year.
A little toe dipping into the NCAA market. Not surprisingly from the NE, given the Hughes, Gorton and MSL connections.

They sign Heineman to his ELC starting next season. He will sign a PTO with the Rocket and play out the season and playoffs with them. A little surprise add this season.

After dropping two to Abbotsford on the weekend the Rocket won a big one 6-2 against Rochester. RHP led the way with the GWG and three assists. A hot hand. Vejdemo is back from injury and had two apples. Primeau with the win.

Yeah, he has missed so much hockey do they want to get him in game shape. He scored a goal last night in his first game.

Two big wins for the Rocket this weekend. 4-3 in OT on Friday over Rochester led by a goal and assist effort from both RHP and Niku. Dea with two assists and Poulin with the win.
Last night it was a 5-3 over Utica with a pair of goals from Dea and a 1+1 night from Belzile. Primeau made 34 saves for the win.
Laval have ten games left and hold a slim percentage edge for second in the division. It is still tight from second to sixth spot, with only top five getting in. So far so good.

I hope the Primeau call up does not stall the Rocket's playoff push momentum.

How the hell do we end up in such a strong division? Sheesh. It's actually good from a development standpoint, but sucks from a playoff qualifying standpoint.

I hope the Primeau call up does not stall the Rocket's playoff push momentum. As I understand it, Kevin Poulin has been the go-to guy, and Primeau was the kid they "had to" give starts to because of his potential...

Balancing act. Poulin is 32 years old and never going to be a factor for the Habs. He may, however, be a better goalie right now and if you want to win, which is also important, the coach might prefer him. Primeau is still developing, so you can't disregard him, either.

The Rocket lost 4-3 in OT, but still managed to get a key point on the road and n Rochester. Ylönen had a great return to the lineup, being in on all three Laval goals.

It is has been a disastrous week for the Rocket. This appears to be a mixture of injuries, not getting the timely save, and guys holding their sticks a little too tightly. Thankfully, the boys still control their own destiny. But the margin for continued error is rather small now.
Belleville is playing against the Marlies right now. It seems that Laval should hope for a regulation winner. The refs have definitely tilted the ice against the Baby Sens in the second period.

Laval clinches its playoff spot. Let’s hope the team that existed up to this past week is the one that shows up in the post season.

I forgot how bizarre the playoff format is the AHL (23 of 31 teams qualify). Hopefully Laval can nail down second place in the division in order to get a bye through the first round (3 game series).

A fun head to head last night in the Q between Roy #10 and Kidney #12. Sherbrooke won and Roy had a 2+1 game to retake the scoring lead with 113 points. Kidney fired a goal and sits at 99 points and sixth in league points.
Elsewhere, Simoneau had a goal and two helpers in an Islanders come from behind win against Cape Breton.
