Guhle in beast mode since returning from injury for the playoffs. He had the GWG and an assist last night. That is 5 points in 3 games as the Oil Kings sit at 3-0 in their opening round series.

Those last two posts should be in the prospects thread. Oops. Enjoy the updates anyway 😂

There's no way that isn't Nick Suzuki wearing #12.... What's he doing playing in the Q league?? The deception in their games is extremely similar.

Laval snap a four game losing streak with a 5-4 OT against the Marlies. They finish the regular season on a better note.
You only need to see one highlight from this game. This is a goal of the year candidate. Yeah baby!

Rocket win their final game of the regular season 5-1 in Syracuse against a lineup that was missing all the Crunch top stars. These two teams will meet in the second round of the playoffs, in a best of five series, starting next Friday and Saturday in Syracuse. Rocket finished 3rd in their division just behind Syracuse. Defender Louis Belpedio left the game and was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons. That would be a big hit on the blue line if they lose him for any length of time.

Spartak extends Kostenko for two more years. This is good for his development as he played mainly in the VHL as a 19 year old and averaged 17.5 minutes a game in the regular season and 19.5 in the playoffs, where he managed 6 points in 10 games. He should get some looks with the big KHL team and continue to develop his game.

It is nice that Laval escapes the 3 game prelim round, though Syracuse is not an easy opponent. I imagine the winner of that Belleville-Toronto series will get rolled by Utica.
Yeah, I agree, Kostenko can certainly marinate in the KHL for a couple of years and management will have a much better idea of what kind of player they have on their hands. Moreover, there really would not have been room with the Rocket for him next season.
Hopefully Captain Guhle can take the Oil Kings on a deep run this spring.

Norlinder finishing the season with the Rocket. Great news. He was playing great hockey with Frölunda in the playoffs until their loss in the semis.

The Trois-Rivières Lions made the playoffs this year, in their inaugural ECHL season. In this first round, they are facing their big rivals from Newfoundland and Labrador, the Toronto ECHL franchise and perennial playoff contender. The stronger Growlers won the first two games and it looked like an early exit for the boys from 3R. They have fought back in the series, including a big 7-2 win last night on the road in NL. The series is tied 3-3 and will be settled with game 7 today. Josh Brook is playing and had an EN goal and an assist in the last game.

Unfortunately, the Newfoundland Growlers beat the Lions 5-2 to take Game 7 and the first round playoff series. Their inaugural season is done, but nice to see them get some post season play in for a new team.
At least both farm teams get some playoff action this year!

Heineman practicing with the Rocket today, albeit in a non-contact jersey. Hopefully he is cleared for full practice and can get some playoff games in this year. Laval’s playoffs start this Friday and Saturday in Syracuse against the Crunch.

Too bad Lukas is out with season ending injury. Supposedly he will have surgery and be out for seven months.
I sure hope the boys can go on a good run.

Four forwards from 3R will serve as Black Aces. Abbandonato did very well with his time with the Rocket and could easily slot in for the playoffs.

As Andrew correctly points out, very interesting that Josh Brook was not also named as one of the Black Aces. Although, they did not call up a goalie to be the third goalie. You don’t want to go on a hopefully long playoff run with just two goalies in case one gets injured.

The net belongs to Poulin tonight. Probably the right choice. B2B games to start the series too.

Not an ideal start to a best of five series for the Rocket. A 5-3 loss on the road in the series opener. Belzile with two goals and Niku with three assists. Poulin with the loss. Both teams back at it in Syracuse again on Saturday. Primeau likely gets the start in that game.

Goals by Ylönen (see the blast below), Belzile and Gignac (GWG), and a huge effort by Primeau, and the Rocket win 3-2 on the road to even the best of five at one each. Games three and four back in Laval on Thursday and Saturday.

Good to see Fairbrother back with the team. That was a lot of time missed with various injuries this season, so hoping next season is much healthier for the young man.

A little write up on the contributions from the younger players so far in the first two playoff games for the Rocket. Game three is their first home game on Thursday night.

The Rocket laid a goose egg yesterday afternoon in front of a sold out Place Bell. Primeau made 34 saves, but the offence came up empty as Syracuse won 3-0. All momentum shifts back to the Crunch who head home for deciding game five on Tuesday.

Will Legace be back for Tampa? He has been really good for them down the stretch.
Are the rules on the number of developmental players (i.e. kids/prospects) required to be in the lineup not in effect for the playoffs? It sure seems like the Crunchies ice a rather 'mature' lineup.

Are the rules on the number of developmental players (i.e. kids/prospects) required to be in the lineup not in effect for the playoffs? It sure seems like the Crunchies ice a rather 'mature' lineup. My guess is that Syracuse is icing a mature line-up because Tampa doesn't have many if any young prospects to add to their roster. Too many picks given up for Coleman, Savard, Goodrow, Hagel and so on. Whatever happens with Tampa, I think they are at the beginning of a downward trend. Their core plus a couple of solid non core guys (6 players) will average 31.4 years of age at the start of next season. They have one first round and one second round pick the next 3 years. That's 2 picks instead of 6. Looking at their Syracuse roster, they appear to have one guy with an outside shot at making the NHL, Alex Barre-Boulet. He's played 31 NHL games but doesn't seem able to stick, and he'll be 25 in 10 days. The future is bleak for the Lightning but they won't be immediately bad enough to rebuild any time soon. Vasilevsky alone will likely keep them in purgatory, right where they belong.
