I'm thinking Romanov's value was affected by the Russian factor.

For a second I thought we were going to get #4 and get both Slaf and Wright Same. The timing of the trade is curious.

I'm thinking Romanov's value was affected by the Russian factor. His family is Russian hockey royalty. That may be a big factor and potentially theft.

Trades - both Habs Romanov and pick #98 to the Islanders for pick #13. Picks #13 and #66 to Chicago for Kirby Doch. Romanov, 66 and 98 for Kirby Dach... Who's Kirby Doch /Dach?

Well, they have (apparently) the most NHL-ready player in the draft in Juraj Slafkovsky, and they managed to land a young, talented centre in Kirby Dach ... losing Alex Romanov hurts, but I wish him well, just the same ... good to see you checking in, Berg ... Cheers.

So... Instead of Romanov and Wright we have Dach and Slafkovsky...
Two huge gambles in my opinion. I'm a big Romanov fan, but with Guehle and Harris it was a position of strength. We shall see.

13 was traded to Hawks for Dach. Thanks jkr I'm having trouble keeping up with things as I'm not watching TV. Well, no Shane Wright but Kirby Dach at center He was 3rd in the 2019 draft. We took Caufield with our first pick @ 15. So, are we looking at Suzuki and Dach as the one-two punch down the middle?

Dach is 6' 4", 197lbs, 21 years old. Last season scored 9 G, 17 A, 26 total points, Plus/Minus of -18
Gorton/Hughes said they wanted a mix of picks & young players that have already been developed and we now see what that means on draft night. Already a heavy burden on Dach's shoulders to meet expectations.
I expect it's Suzuki as 1st line center with Slafkovsky as LW & peanut on RW.
2nd line with Dach & Anderson at RW & ?? at LW?

Toronto Maple Leafs vs First Round in playoffs
Montreal Canadiens vs First Round picks

Seriously. They better not f^ck this up. I'm not enthused so far. They pass on Wright, trade their only hitter on the blue line and trade for an under achiever in Dach. Underwhelmed so far.

Seriously. They better not f^ck this up. Well, I was stunned when they didn't pick Wright first as I think were a lot of others here. But they do have a plan which they have previously articulated and they seem to be following it. So at present this management team still has my support. By the way, am I right in thinking that Slafkovsky has played in an adult team for 1 or 2 years? If so that also fits their plan.

So did Kotkaniemi, and Kotkaniemi had more goals and points in the same league. I sure hope he is more Jagr than Jägerbomb

Maybe Dach will figure it out. He was probably rushed into league, but nevertheless his first three years have been very underwhelming. Let us hope he is one of those tall kids (like Tage Thompson last season) who manages to figure it out.

Shocked …but they made a splash ….got bigger in a hurry with lots of upside ..still moves to come ….I m Happy honestly this could be exciting.
We’ll see ….no one really knows it’s up to the kid their hunger and the ability to develop and put these kids in the right position and circumstances.
Go Habs

I was surprised with the Slafy pick and am sad to see Romy go but we have a deep prospect pool on D so I get moving him.... I have faith in HuGo that they have a plan and are doing what they need to make the Habs competitive

Better environment with the Habs I think / hope.

I wonder if the 1st pick came down to a comparison of Dach and Wright. In the long term do they feel Dach wil be the better player?

I wonder if the 1st pick came down to a comparison of Dach and Wright. In the long term do they feel Dach wil be the better player? I think they believed Suzuki and Wright are similar and Slafkovsky filled 1 need and Dach filled the center need. Dach was probably in the works for a bit.
