I watched part of that game. And, yeah, it was just such a total mismatch that no one on Harvard stood out, which is really not a knock on Farrell. There were stretches of the game where Dobes could have sat in a lawn chair.

Kidney with three helpers so far tonight (after two periods). I was reading a tweet from a guy who follows (scouts) a lot of Habs prospects. He pointed out the changes in Kidney's game from last year to this. Mostly, it was a willingness to cut into the middle, where last year he had more of a peripheral game. It is consistent with many of our guys. The Development guys are doing a great job helping them get better. Engstrom is another example.

Wow... developing your prospects... a simple concept that eluded the previous administration... I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything that didn't elude the previous administration. Stu Cowan interviewed Serge Savard recently about the dealings with former Habs and it's very enlightening. It shows how insecure and pathetic Bergevin is, as well as describing some of the incidents involving former Habs. Serge asked Bergie if he could take his grandkids through the Habs dressing room after a game once, after all the players had left. Bergevin denied him. Like I said...pathetic.

That would be good news. Get him into the line-up if possible, or at worst into the Laval lineup to acclimate him to the pro game.

Congratulations to Joshua. He certainly finished the regular season on a roll heading into the playoffs.

Disappointing to see Beck at only 66 points. The trade to Peterborough hurt his offense as it appears he has a different role there, but it may actually prepare him better for the role he will eventually have with the Habs, as a Ryan Kesler lite, 3rd line centre. A defensively responsible better than average 3rd line offensive centre, who can kill penalties and win face-offs.

Yeah, Beck was mainly used as the shutdown centre after the trade to the Petes and his offensive numbers dried up in that time. Near the end of the regular season, he did get moved up and played a bit with better linemates and his numbers, not surprisingly, were better during that last stretch. In the end, I think he will carve out a role as a responsible two way centre with good speed, good faceoff skills and very good IQ. Where that fits in the lineup will depend on the rest of the roster, but he will be a useful piece going forward.

Davidson is another guy who shouldn't be short changed attention wise. Sleeper prospect, IMO. I know he is a lunch pail type worker and his offensive numbers are respectable, but what how would you evaluate his skating, smarts, and combativeness? I liked the idea management grabbed an energy type forward in the draft. Nothing against Rohrer, but I was hoping for Montreal to take the hitter agitator Sammy Savoie.

NWT will have better assessments of those categories. I haven't seen him play in juniour, just the preseason games after training camp last fall. He, surprisingly, was kept around longer than most expected. My memories are that he forechecked well and didn't look out of place. Of course, it was preseason and he was usually up against AHL players. When a guy seems to fit in well, like he did, it's worth giving him a longer runway. His challenge is that the Habs have so many prospects and with him being an overager, he may be a casualty of numbers.

His challenge is that the Habs have so many prospects and with him being an overager, he may be a casualty of numbers. I like Davidson. I saw him live once in the WHL finals last year (before he was drafted) and he was Seattle’s best player. I watched a fair number of his games this season and he has been an effective player and leader for Seattle. Sure, the knock is he is a 20 year old and they should dominate over younger guys. But he brings a very good compete level and his offence is a dual threat as he can shoot and is a decent set up guy. He is not the quickest guy off the mark, but gets where he needs to once he gets going. The skating may be the thing that holds him back from NHL Vs AHL or he may overcome it and improve like a few current Habs and prospects have. At the pro level he likely is a bit more vanilla than a lot of the other prospects who may have more elite projectable skills (or two). In the end, it is also about the internal competition with so many other young guys coming into Laval soon. In the end, he has definitely earned a contract. They also have the option of signing him to a show-me AHL deal for next season similar to the Q overagers they keep drafting as they still have his rights for another year.

Yes,, that would be a good option from a Habs standpoint. The question is if Davidson has higher aspirations.

The Habs have his NHL rights exclusively until June 1, 2024, so it should not be a big deal from him. If he gets the AHL deal and the Habs don’t want to give him an ELC next year, he turns UFA anyway. This is what they did with RHP and Simoneau, and both those turned into ELCs after the one year AHL deal. And in Tourigny’s case, he opted for the Slovakian top league ( and got top pairing minutes) instead of the AHL deal (where the D was crowded at the start of the season pre-injuries), so it worked out well and positions him for an ELC now too.

Quite the battle between London (Mailloux) and Owen Sound (Guindon). With their win last night, the Knights are up 3/0 but the last two games went to OT. Mailloux had an assist on last night’s OT winner Guindon has five points in the last two games. Two nights ago, his late ENG sent the game to OT.

8th seed Kitchener are making life miserable for #1 seed Windsor and Shane Wright. The Rangers are now up 3-0.
Seattle continue their strong ways, and Davidson is having a fine series with five points in the last two games. Seattle is up 3-0.
Beck scored his first last night and Peterborough also leads 3-0.
Rohrer and Ottawa are up 2-1 to round out OHL prospects in the playoffs.

Roy with 7 points in 3 games, including a four point (1+3) night last night. Sherbrooke is comfortably up 3-0 n their series.
Kidney with 8 points in three playoff games, including his crazy six point night on Saturday. Gatineau are up 2-1 in their series and Kidney’s points streak continues as he has only failed to get a point once in a Gatineau uniform…in his first game.
