Yippee! I finally found a video of Rohrer’s slick OT winner last night. 7-6 final…old school hockey.

Three assists for Hutson in his NCAA debut, including this primary on Tuch’s goal. Is that a good debut?

Wow! Especially against that powerhouse, Bentley. Isn't that a car brand? An expensive one, mind you.
IN all seriousness, I liked the way he delayed until a guy was in a good scoring position and then threaded the needle with that pass. Good play.

A busy night with the CHL and NCAA back in action.
Kapanen scored his second of the season, into an empty net ( not remedying my concern about his offensive upside).
Dichow got his second start, and they lost 4-3 on 30 shots.
Croteau gave up 4 in a 4-3 loss, but Dobeš had a 25 save 4-2 win.
Biondi 1a Pitlick 2a Tuch, 1g, 1a Hutson 3a (first NCAA game, point) Struble 1a
Guindon 1g Kidney 1a Davidson 1g, 1a Roy 2g (4 points in 2 games this weekend)

The attention was all on Logan Cooley and his 2 goal, 3 point NCAA debut with the Gophers last night, but quietly #77 Pitlick had two sweet primary assists on his two goals. That first one behind the back was cheeky!

Kidney with a goal and an assist in a 6-4 loss to Halifax. Here is his goal after going for a nice skate around the Ozone.

Roy with two assists in a 5-4 OT loss. He has 6 points in his first 3 games.
Quite the sweet cross seam pass on the first assist.

Lots of fun amongst the prospects on a busy Saturday night.
Dobeš earned his fourth straight win to open the season in a close 4-3 Ohio State win.
Pitlick (the younger) had an assist.
Hutson with two assists in a lopsided exhibition win over University of Waterloo (Ontario).
Croteau with the 4-1 Waterloo Blackhawks win.
Rohrer with an assist. Four points now in his first four games.
Kidney with a goal and two assists.
Roy was the star of the night with 1 goal and three more assists. That is 9 points in his first four games.
And watch Lane Hutson’s sweet puck handling and passing on this goal. #20 in white.

Two more points for Roy on Sunday. 11 points in 5 games. That line of Roy, Gauthier and Gill might be the best in junior hockey right now.

Adam Engström gets a promotion from 7D to third pairing for today’s Champions League match against Zurich. CHL games are streamed on YouTube and game starts at 2:30 ET.

Adam Engström saw his men’s league ice time hit a new high yesterday when he logged 19:43 on the third pair in a CHL match against ZSC Lions from Zurich, a very strong club. He looked very solid playing against Habs alumni Sven Andrighetto and Yannick Weber (cool to see them playing big roles still back home).
I really like how the Abbott brothers are developing him by slowly increasing his mens league responsibilities once he shows he can handle them, and still giving him the odd J20 games to get loads of ice time and play big premium minutes. So, this one year extension with Rögle is a good thing…he is in good hands there.
He also should be a big part of the D for Sweden for the upcoming WJC in Halifax/Moncton in December. As a “late birthday” this event will be his last U20 for which he is eligible.

20 year old defender Tourigny, who was a seventh round pick last draft, will forego his overage season in the QMJHL and head over and play pro hockey for a season in Slovakia. He was recently cut from Laval camp, so this seems like a decent alternative to ECHL duty. The Habs still have his exclusive rights for two years.
Only fair, the Habs now have two recent Slovakian draft picks playing over here, so nice to send a good old Canadian boy back in return. 😉

I think Hughes tipped his hand a bit on his preference on where he would prefer to see Mešár play this season. He further explained that he would rather see him work on his offensive game in the OHL rather than all the defensive responsibilities that would come with playing in the AHL (I gather he is implying that there will be time for that in the future but he wants to continue to grow the offensive game).
By the way, JF Houle (definitely more old school than new age despite him dropping the odd reference to “development” and “youth” in his interviews) has Mešár on the fifth line in practice today.

Yeah. Not a fan of Houle as a development guy. I'm sure he has seen the writing on the wall and is saying all the right things, but we'll have to see how he uses the other kids. The Mesar situation (clearly he should be on a scoring line) may be affected by Hughes' preference to have Mesar in the OHL rather than the AHL so I don't want to read too much into it.

And a final wrap of some of the others who had games but I could not track down highlights.
Dobeš with a shutout in a rare 0-0 game.
Tuch with his second although BU were spanked 9-2.
Rohrer with an assist. Five points in five games.
Guindon with his second straight two apple game. He now has six points in six games.

Rögle won 4-2 today in SHL action. Engström moved up to the second pairing and had this nice assist. He makes some pretty good shifty moves to get open as he dances along the blue line.
