With the Leafs up 1-0, Bunting gets away with a trip.
Florida is called for one...2-0.
Now the Leafs back to the PP. I can't imagine the Panthers being too happy about it.
Good thing it's early. Panthers are still tying up their skates....

GO LAFFS GO
Keeping 17th and using it to get Dubois is vastly more important then Laffs winning the Cup.
I don't want to see it but I can live with it. Another decade of Habs floundering is NOT what I want to see.

Toronto did carry the play in the first period tonight. Their forecheck has been way more aggressive.
But only hard core homers would dispute the refs are missing the mark thus far in the series because in game 1 Florida was by a good margin the better 5v5 team and they have plenty of dangerous guys who take the puck to the net so it is disingenuous that the refs only saw ONE Leafs infraction in the entire game.
I could certainly get along just fine with a Toronto series win, after all a better first round pick helps the cause more than a worse one. But I can live with Leafs failure.

Finally, as time runs out of the 2nd, Leafs called for a blatant trip. Panthers with a chance for a dagger to start the 3rd.

Ever since Tavares complained after game one with TB, things have been going Toronto's way with the officials. The c on his jersey stands for crybaby.
If the Leafs are so good why do they need so much help from the refs. Everything thing went their way against the Bolts and they still needed 3 OT wins to advance.

Bobrovsky has been solid.
1st star tonight. 3rd star in Game 1.
5th straight win.

The refs are trying to do their bit (8 power plays thus far versus 2 for Florida). But the big story is Bobrovsky. This is a guy who has been mediocre and/or inconsistent since signing his mega-contract. He even looked literally disengaged and bored on the bench in the first 3-4 games against the Bruins. But he is turning back the clock and playing like the guy who won two Vezinas.
The worrisome thing for Toronto is really a shadow that started to loom over large stretches of play against Tampa. They are simply not the better the team 5v5. With Brodie seemingly falling off a cliff, they have too many d-man who are struggling to move the puck. Schenn is physical but nothing else. McCabe was probably the beneficiary of the halo effect due to not sucking on a team that totally sucked so now judged by the standard of playing for a Cup contender, he suddenly seems rather limited and meh. Jeje, I guess Keefe could always bring Holl back into the fold for game 3.

The forwards on the leafs do nothing to help their D... they get cute with the puck trying to exit their zone and lose the puck... that stuff is a coach killer.

Folatre- if Keefe is looking for D men he can always dress Gustafsson. I highly recommend him. I heard Keefe whining about something after the game. Was that that the hit on Bunting.

That's the same penalty that Lafferty got gor cross checking Ross Colton. Leaf fans have already forgotten that one.
But hey, it was Bunting so it was worth the 5K.

That's why I picked Vegas in this one. Edmonton's D and G are still issues. I think Vegas's overall game/team are more consistent throughout--especially 5-on-5. If Vegas can keep their penalties down.... It's difficult, first game back after a tough series, to have your timing and everything else back in sync. You're mostly just resting. The exception is Florida, who are on a high. Still want to see 2 Canadian teams in teh final to spite Bettman

I am not surprised by the number of penalties the Panthers take. But my eyes told me the Leafs committed more infractions than a single two minute penalty in each game. Maybe if Florida was a perimeter team that does not drive the net I could buy it. But a couple of the Panthers' lines (in particular the one with Tkachuk and Bennett) grind and grind and grind down low, and it is really hard to break up the cycle.
Too bad for the kid Knies, but that is just a physical hockey play, probably a little greasy but not 'cross the line' dirty and certainly not suspension worthy. I recall Montreal's coaches were none too pleased with the grizzly mauling from behind that Barkov subjected Guhle to that cost him like six weeks, but St. Louis is not in the crier category that Keefe occupies.

KK having himself a game so far with 2 goals. He cost a 27th overall pick and a 3rd rounder. Ouch.
As an aside, Tatar is working his butt off and looking good. How he got that soft reputation is not in evidence right now.

Maybe I saw a different highlight. It looked like a perfectly good mugging to me. I was surprised there was no call at all. But if the game is going to be played that way, the Leafs have to join in and mug a few people themselves.

The Leafs got that started when Bunting elbowed Cernak out of the series and Reilly helped Point onto the boards. Plus Lafferty's crosscheck to Colton's face.
They have no cause to complain about the other team. They've been just as guilty.
