Another rarely talked about prospect, UMD’s Jack Smith, scored his first goal of the season in the 3-3 tie with Minnesota (see last post).

Mešár added two more assists to his season tally on Sunday as the Rangers went into London and beat their big rivals 4-2. He now has a tidy 9 points in 5 OHL games and is getting much needed top six ice time and exposure to playing with better linemates. At this point, it sure seems like a better place for him rather than being in and out of the Rocket lineup on the fourth line on a team that is currently a mess.
Volokhin has been playing with the Russian U20 team in a 3x3 tournament against other U20 teams (Kazakhstan, Belarus, Russia U18, etc). Even though he will likely never see IIHF action at the WJC due to the banishment of Russia, nice to see him get the nod for some national team action.

Hutson's advanced stats compare very favourably (just slightly better) than those of Adam Fox at the same age. I watched a couple of Rangers games lately and you don't see Fox get involved physically much at all, yet he doesn't hurt the Rangers defensively and has finished with some solid +/- numbers in his career. Fox's game is definitely skewed to the offensive side, though. As is Hutson's. A tweet yesterday had Hutson at 5'10, 170 lbs, but who can trust a tweet? Boston University's web page has him at 5' 10", 162 lbs and that would seem to be the most reliable source. At least he's reached that height figure, which is kind of a minimum for NHL dmen. Does anyone have updated numbers?

Two apples for Konyushkov in today’s 4-1 win, including this primary assist on the PP.

Mešár is cooking right now in Kitchener. He won the battle of prospects last night as the Rangers shut out Owen Sound 5-0 led by Mešár’s three point night: 1g 2a. He now has 12 points in 6 games. Sure beats having to battle for six minutes of ice time periodically under Houle!

More from young Xhekaj. And first star of the game to boot. I love this kid, X in a bottom six role along with Pezetta and with XL on D will be a menace in this league for 10 years and will make the players on this team play big... truculence and snot personified... Here is video highlights of X from the game against Niagara... 2 very good goals

This is not a duplicate post…Hutson scored another one (his 8th of the campaign) last night in a 6-1 win.
And Tuch did just fine too, with two more assists. He now has 12 points in 10 games. He does some nice work fighting off his check for this primary assist. #11 in white.

A couple of Beck’s assists. #16 in white and maroon.
Here is a primary helper off a big faceoff win.
Here he goes for a nice skate and sets up the OT winner.
And the CHL gives him a nod as one of the top three performers of the night.

I just noticed on my guide that there’s an NCAA game at 7 pm eastern between ME (Maine?) and Boston University. Its on TSN 5. Lane Hutson is the main act.

Volokhin with a shutout win today in the MHL. His record is now 12-2 as the “3” in his record shown in the tweet below are actually shootout wins. He was called up briefly to the VHL, but did not get in any action.
Elsewhere in Europe today, Reinbacher played over 19 minutes in a 3-2 OT loss and Oliver Kapanen scored on the PP and had over 21 minutes of ice time in a 5-2 KalPa win. Kostenko and Gordin were both held without a point in their VHL matches.

Florian pots a couple... the kid has a nose for the net but what impressed me was him moving from the front of the net to along the boards to give a teammate an outlet when they are being covered... smart move.... would be fun to have him and pez on the 4th line

I just noticed on my guide that there’s an NCAA game at 7 pm eastern between ME (Maine?) and Boston University. Its on TSN 5. Lane Hutson is the main act. And Celebrini and Tuch will be a fine complementary side dish! I watched most of the game. Celebrini looks good. Very confident and wants to make things happen. He had one goal, but missed two others where he had the goalie beaten. On one he hit the crossbar with a backhand a break (trying to roof it, smart guy), and on the other he had a breakaway, deked the goaliie and the puck rolled on it side and he shot it over the bar. He couldn't believe he missed it, And the kid's only 17. HUtson, not so impressive. He had one assist on Celebrini's PP goal. Laid out a soft pass that Mack one timed. What stood out were: a) he made a pass from his face-off circle to a breaking forward, while he was fairly stationary, through several Maine players, right on his teammate's stick and the guy didn't have to break stride and had a breakaway b) coming out of his zone once, he was basically standing still, and had a forechecker dancing in front of him. He did a few things with his shoulders and head and so fooled the forechecker that he was able to skate around him and come up the ice, which brings me to: Hutson really needs to gain some speed. On that play above, the guy he beat backchecked hard and caught up to him. And this is in the NCAA, where the quality of play didn't impress me much (to quote Shania). He also will need to get stronger. He had difficulty handling some of the physical play when he was forced to deal with it. Again, this is the NCAA, not the NHL where the weaker guys are all as strong as the strongest guys in college. I'd also question if he is 5' 10". Five nine maybe, or do they measure you with skates on? Luke Tuck looked not bad. More development is needed but there's something there to work with. He had a quick transition play and sprung a guy, with a good backhand pass. He's not as fast as Alex, unfortunately, but his speed is decent. Likes to use the body. Canucks pick Tom Willander looked good. Reminded me a LOT of Filip Hronek, which is a good sign for Vancouver.

In the OHL last night, Guindon scored his 10th, Xhekaj scored both goals in a 2-1 Brantford win (I recorded the game, so will watch later) and Mešár had another solid outing with a goal and two more assists. That is 18 points in 9 games.
