The Canucks and Leafs could be in tough since their opponents have the better goalie suited up. Despite how stupid they played in game 2, I would still be shocked if Edmonton actually lost the series. |

I think cheering for anyone in the Atlantic division is impossible. The west coast start times are killing me though.

Watching that video of the Habs 93 Cup, explains why Bettman hates Canadian teams. He's a brand new commish, like only 6 months if that, and he's holding the Cup up for the world to see, basking in the glory of being the centre of attention, and Patrick comes along and rips the Cup out of his hands (Duh, yeah, he's just won the damn thing). Bettman has never forgiven the Habs, and other Canadian teams by extension, for that snub. |

He pisses his pants and forgets who he is for half an hour. But I hate all those teams too. All other teams, I don't hate as much as these, but I still hate them all. But I love the Habs. |

The eye test and basically all the underlying numbers suggested the Capitals in the playoffs was essentially an illogical outlier scenario. It turns out the analytics and the eyeballs were not mistaken.
Vancouver is in turtle-mode tonight, defending the house with everything to help take pressure off DeSmith. Not a bad road game strategy under duress, however I really wonder how a deep run for the Canucks is possible if it takes this level of overcompensation on the defensive end in order to survive round one.

So this Rempe dude does it again. He leaves his feet with his elbow up & hammers van Riemsdyk onto the boards. The refs reaction- an interference penalty. He then turns down a challenge from Wilson.
Caps are now down 3-0 so I guess things could get messy.

Saw some highlights of TB and Florida. The ineptness of NHL officials shouldn't surprise but it still does. Point on a clear break is tripped by Tkachuk. Nothing questionable about it, a stick between the legs. The call - 2 minutes for tripping.  Sergachev back in the lineup and TB leading 3-0 in the 1st. |

I was doing my first big yard work Saturday afternoon of 2024 and I totally forgot about the Carolina-NYI game. Good for the Islanders. They have not really been overmatched the way the Capitals have, so it is nice to see them show some pride and give the ticket paying public a nice memory.
Rempe is probably a really nice kid trying desperately to do all the 'right' things so as to carve out any kind of a NHL career. But something about this dude is just an out of control (that was a high elbow), attention hound ahole. Parros spun the Department of Player Safety wheel and determined there was nothing to see there.
Not a huge surprise that a proud, decorated core like Tampa's stood tall in the face of a sweep. Not that it will change the series, but it says a lot about the type of group aspiring clubs should want to cultivate. It is more than talent. It is also about hating to lose.
Things looking tricky for the Leafs if they do not mount a comeback in game 4.

Bruins run out to a 3-0 lead after two. Marner scores in the 3rd but the game ends 3-1 despite Toronto getting its customary late PP with just over 5 minutes to go in the 3rd. Nylander played but his goal scoring slump continues.
Including their last 4 games of the season, the Leafs have now lost 7 of 8.
