Columbus has a lot of jump early. Unfortunately, Barron is playing like his in a fog tonight, retreating way too slowly in the face of the counterattack and then being a total spectator as the Jackets move the puck across the Royal Road to the guy he was marking. Then Fantilli blew him up next shift when Barron was puck watching.

Lately, even though Barron had 2 quick goals in his return, there are other signs that suggest he is not going to be a Hab long term. It’s that simple awareness, vision, processing, whatever one calls it, is just not there.

Hughes and St. Louis are tight. And there is no denying this is not a roster ready to do much winning, so I sort of feel like the HC is a lock to return next season. Bottom third special teams and messy team defense could certainly lead to at least two assistant coaches getting flushed the Monday after the regular season concludes.

It was a cheeky post, of course, but despite the youth of the team, they should have some discipline. Marty’s been the coach for over a year.

Barron has a lot of nice tools -- good skater, ability to move the puck, decent size, excellent shot. But if he is going to be anything more than a fringe third pair, PP2 type d-man in this league, then he is going to have to start demonstrating more hockey smarts and commitment to defending.

The Russian hit Xhekaj pretty good along the boards. The Sheriff was not happy, so they threw down. The Russian stood up strong like a Grizzly, but within ten seconds, Xhekaj tossed him down and landed a couple.
