Thanks Dis. Great stuff you've uncovered. Have you noticed how championships seem to follow some guys around constantly and how they avoid others? Robinson is a supreme example at the one end (along with Scott Niedermayer for non-Hab fans), while Marcel Dionne and the Tkachuk family, despite being very good players, are examples at the other end. Or Bill Gadsby, who was the prime example of this feature decades ago.
Luck plays a part of course as no one who is constantly on bad teams has a chance.
Great memories, especially the Robinson - Schultz fight, which was more a lambasting than a fight. The end of an era for the Flyers and the beginning of one for Montreal.

Never get tired of seeing Robinson point his finger at a Flyer telling him you're next At the 3 minute mark, after Big Bird pummels Schultz...

Classic, Robinson and the Calder with the Voyageurs.
I was a baby when Robinson gave Schultz the business and sent a message to the hockey world that a true dynasty, predicated on beautiful hockey and toughness, was about to replace the non-dynasty of the broad street bullies. And when I became a Habs fan (1983ish) there was no internet or youtube so I am not sure I really saw the entirety of Robinson giving him the beat down until twenty years after it happened.
Considering the massive, epic playoff battles that continued between the Habs and Flyers in the late 80's, I really grew up with Philly as one of the clubs (along with the Bruins and the Nordiques) that I truly hated.

I was disappointed that Schultz stood up. No blood squirting from various orifices...that's not the way disagreements ended in my part of the world.
Anywho...that was the beginning of Habs supremacy.
And here we are now...

Best of '24, all!
Just a note on the Robinson-Schultz fight.
It occurred on Feb. 17, 1974. The Habs were defending Champs.
The Bullies' crap would go on to win the Cup that season and the next, before finally being swept away by the Habs in '76.
While the fight obviously gave the Habs the upper fist from then on, the beginning of the 4-Cup dynasty was still 2 seasons away.
Too bad we lost to Buffalo in the '75 Semis. Bernie Parent missed our '76 Finals due to injury...but he was red hot in '75...en route to the Vezina and Conn Smythe.
Would've been a great Finals.

Just another sign of a guy driven to be a star...constantly working at his craft. It would be nice to see him practice those techniques in a game. Shoot, Slaf!

Sounds like Drysdale will make his Flyers' debut tomorrow night, on home ice. Not that I think NHL players on the Flyers feel aggrieved over how Gauthier elected to conduct his business, but just projecting from this Philly team embracing the underdog role all season and almost never take a night off, it would not surprise me if the Habs face an opponent playing sixty minutes con el cuchillo entre los dientes.

Yes); that is probably the most common translation. In the context of the Southern Cone of South America, it generally means an individual or group fully committing to battle; or literally crawling toward the enemy's lines in the still of the night with a knife in the mouth to do what needs to be done.

It will be interesting to see how Flyers respond to the 'scandal'. They may be pissed that their team has been slagged by an upstart and take it out on the Habs. But some of them may have their doubts about playing in Philly, and they may be less inclined to engage. One thing is for sure, the Flyers are a better team now with Drysdale than they were 24 hours ago and will be for another year or two, depending on how Cutter develops.

They got Lindrosed
They should take solace in the fact that Lindros never won a cup, but the players he got traded for did

Only 2 shots total for the period. Luckily fluky deflections put them both in. . Kind of an ugly period but somehow they're ahead 2 to 1

Yeah, the scoring on the only shots you take strategy just won’t cut it. Time to spend more time in the Ozone.
