Saw this video and it shows how he has matured, is playing the way MSL wants. His hard work and effort are showing...

Thanks Willie. There are some good explanations of what Slaf is doing that helps make him successful. He has such a great combination of skills. He thinks the game at a high level, looking for the next move before being in a position to make that next move. He is showing us one hell of a shot and it's going to get better as he uses it more. His physical presence is frightening. Some of those clips show him basically ignoring a guy who is draped all over him, because he can still do whatever he wants and the defender can't stop him. You can see him plant his feet wide and game's over as far as stopping him from making his next play. I could go into his passing, his acceleration, his panic threshold, etc. but I'd be here all day.
I love how he's allowing us to turn the tables on the haters.

We're desperate to see him succeed as a 1st OA.
I was scarred that we have Laffy V2 on our hands but he seems to be comming into his own.
Right now, let him do whatever he wants out there to get poknts. But of course as the team gets more serious, isee him excelling at the 200 ft game.

Don't know about you guys, but right now, I see Slaf and Caufield as the play drivers on that top line, more so than Suzuki. Suze is using that space created by the other two (who dispossess the puck from opponents or steal passes) to create high danger shots. It's a really good combination, and different from the past when we needed Suze to create goals on the rush. He still does that part, but doesn't need to do heavy lifting on the forecheck any more.

I still think Dach and Slafkovsky can anchor the 2nd line with Suzuki and Caufield on the 1st line. Then find the best guy to complement them on the wing.
Agree Slafkovsky looks great now but I’d love him to spread the wealth and have 2 high quality scoring lines next year and that could be hard if we load up the top line too much.

For example, Joshua Roy is a complement to any line that he is on. Put him with Suzuki and Caufield and he'll likely elevate both their games as he tends to do. Then we just have to look for that left winger on the Dach/Slaf line. That's a large line, that second one. 6'4" and 6'3" and 225 lbs each. Yikes. Third line of Beck and Newhook...the Cheetahs. We'll come up with a better name.

Nice thing about Dach is that if we draft a centre this year who can compete for the top spot or be at least an excellent 2C, Dach can move to the wing and still be very effective.

I think the plan is to let the kids continue to mature and fill out most of the roster in the next year or so and we'd be competitive - particularly when Suze, Cole, Dach and Juri are a few more years mature. That's looking quite good now. And then once we identify where we're lacking, a top six or top 4, HuGo hits the FA market or makes a trade to get hopefully an elite player by offering prospects and draft picks. We certianly have a number of dmen who will be expendable once Mailloux, Hutson and Riechy appear on the scene.
I think our biggest problem are the Gally and Anderson contracts. If they retire or leave, that's $12 million freed up, which makes for a nice FA. Now how to convince them to move on - sadly no GM is taking either of those guys without some considerable retention.

Yup and there is no real benefit to buying either out next year either. I would love to package one of them to a team that has a boatload of capspace. Kind of like Winnipegs first, Anderson, Harris, and a third round pick for Zegras kind of deal

Can Gallagher and Anderson simply retire and take front office jobs eating rubber chicken dinners in Church basements with pee wee teams? Molson can pay them to do it!

Yea, anything to get them off the ice. Unfortunately they're on the books through the 2026-2027 season. My wish is that, if the Habs can't trade them before next season, when one of the young players is ready to make the Club then Molson buys them out. I don't know if any of the buyout remains a Cap hit- Skilly or someone else can clarify this. Cheers The Oldtimer PS Armia and Dvorak are on the books through 2024/2025

He will be owed $15.5M and the buyout will be at 2/3rd so $10.3M This can be spread out over twice the remaining years, so $1.722M over 6 years Our cap hit will then be based on Anderson's salary difference to his original cap hit The cap hit will be $222k in year 1, $2.222M in year 2, $3.722 in year 3, then $1.722 in years 4-6 To further explain let's look at year 1 and year 3 Year 1 - Salary is 7 million - original cap hit is $5.5 million - difference is MINUS $1.5 million - buyout is $1.722 million - year 1 cap hit = $1.722 - 1.5 = $222,222 Year 3 - Salary is 3.5 million - original cap hit is $5.5 million - difference is PLUS 2 million - buyout is $1.722 million - year 3 cap hit is 1.722 + 2.0 =. $3,722,222

Juri was a brilliant pick by Hugo. Let's not forget that it was an odd draft year as it was very uncertain who would go first. Indeed, the odds on favourite was Wright and he ended up going 4th and looks to be a bust - HuGo dodged that bullet!.
But HuGo recognized Juri has all the tools: skating, size, hands, vision, IQ, temperament, and i think when the dust settles will be much better than Suze or Cole. He played 39 games last year which was a mistake as he should not have been in the NHL, way too young and not ready for the size, speed or ice size. But had he played 14 less games he would be considered a rookie this year. And then after Bedard, would be among the rookie scoring leaders, and he would still be the youngest of all the top 10 rookie scoring leaders other than Bedard. and most of these "rookies" are 2 or 3 years older than Juri.

In hindsight it is looking like a good pick but it is still early. I hope he hasn't plateaued and keeps getting better and better. The whole draft year looks to be underwhelming so far so you can really see the effects Covid had on the development of those players leading up to the draft.

He's at 36 points now and his 20th birthday is March 30th. He's a point behind Richer & 3 points behind Tremblay. With 5 games before his birthday I'd say he's got a good shot at this record.

The whole draft year looks to be underwhelming so far so you can really see the effects Covid had on the development of those players leading up to the draft. True. The flip side is that it's possible that those guys are simply a year or two behind in development and will eventually catch up. When I see some of those plays that Slaf makes, I have to rewind and check it again. On Caufield's goal, for example, he got the secondary, usually 'gimme' assist, but if not for his play (the spinning, catch Suzuki in flight with just the right touch while being harrassed), the Habs don't get the two on one. That was a really difficult play and it looked simple.
