Dis, excellent regular season kickoff. It never gets old seeing Demidov on stage this summer; of course seeing him on the ice next fall will be far better.
Chicago, nice, have yourself a big night. Hopefully the boys can come through with a win.
After this most bizarre preseason, it feels like a mixture of relief and trepidation for the opener. I suppose Montembeault will be in net (Primeau gets the Bruins on Thursday). If I had to guess three days in advance, I would imagine the lines and defense pairs as follows: Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield; Kapanen-Dach-Newhook; Armia-Dvorak-Anderson; Pezzetta-Evans-Gallagher; Matheson-Guhle; Hutson-Savard; Xhekaj-Barron. And Barre-Boulet and Struble will be in the press box.
I have not really followed the Leafs in the preseason except for the two games against the Habs. I presume they are healthy and ready.

I don't think we are winning this one. The talent gap is too big and our specialty teams are in the morgue.
I'm going back to recording and...watching or deleting.
It's just too stressful to get angry over our millionaires being not as good as Laffs millionaires. I'm sure my neighbors know that I'm watching hockey when the walls rattle with..."what the **** were you thinking"...and a lot worse scatology.

Good line-up. The only question I would have is that I think Struble impressed a lot and might force himself into the starting 6, though I have no idea where.

Struble was clearly better than Barron, and in my view will have a much better career. BUT, management needs to make a decision on Barron and so he will get every opportunity in the next few months to show he's a keeper. I'm predicting he will not be a Hab come deadline and likely earlier. Barron is on the clock!

Hate watching hockey on sportsnet....I thought Barron had a good pre-season, nothing stood out he was solid for the most part.

I think that game is going to be relatively tame. So often, like 90% of the time, a game that's anticipated to be a rough and tumble affair, ends up fizzling. The NHL anticipates these things, sends warnings to the teams and instructs the refs to calm the game down, fast.
Having said that, the NHL also promotes violence, (it's Rome's gladiators, minus the killing) so maybe they won't do anything to avoid a rumble.

Reeves is still looking for payback for last years ''show up'' that he got with Arber. The media keeps talking about it and Reeves has that attitude of never letting things go. There will be a dance and after that it should be quiet.

Does the Toronto media still think Reaves is relevant? The guy is clearly over the hill at 37 and a real liability 5 on 5. Thanks to Treliving's lack of skill on contracts he signed this jackass to a 3 year deal last year so they are stuck with him.
Kind of sad that a guy his age is still trying to intimidate people and it's not working. He's good for an interesting quote now and then but that's it.

Line pairings at practice...Armia on 2nd line and Barron needs to start playing a hard game

I am not thrilled to see another (Barre-Boulet) small finesse guy in the projected starting lineup for opening night. Perhaps management just has big hopes for him being the offensive catalyst in Laval and they are trying to find the perfect moment to slide him through waivers.
I think it is curious with a divisional game to start the season not to give Xhekaj any help in keeping the Leafs honest. What if Benoit or McCabe are looking for big hits against Habs top six forwards? St. Louis is a Cup winner and a HOFer so I have utmost respect for him, but if I was sitting in his office I would have Barre-Boulet in the press box and Pezzetta in the lineup.

Gretzky was one of the greatest players of all time...and an extra lousy coach.
I couldn't care less what MSL achieved as a player, I care what he does as a Habs coach.
Right now, for me, he's on the clock. He hasn't shown the ability to change and adopt. Nor in organizing and teaching anything resembling defensive systems.
If we land up in a dirty game, it's on him. Far worse if we lose someone in an injury.

We usually take TO to OT in these home openers, with the Golden Bou scoring the game winner and having 2-3 goals
I see us losing this one by a lot. 4-1 or 5-1
I’d actually be happy just keeping pornstash off the scoresheet

I actually like our chances in this one. As usual TO's goaltending and D is suspect. I think our D is pretty solid. As usual it may come down to PP which is where TO excels and we suck. But hopefully TO's is rusty and ours finds its groove with Marty's guidance

With proper pressure we should be able to get a couple of goals. I love it when they have Reeves in the line up....just means that they will be rolling 3 lines all night.

Can't lie, stomping oùt the Laffs light of hope in '21 made me very happy...and still does.
Even in the regular season, every time i hear the laffs lose, it's smile time.

I was so afraid that we were going to get beat in that series and we would never hear the end of it from Leafs fans. Glad we won when it mattered the most!

Excellent Video. I had to dig out Baba O'Reilly from my hard drive and play it all again on it's own. The lyrics make no sense but great music.
Tonight, I'd like to see a disciplined group with good structure and some offensive creativity. We've always been pretty good 5 on 5, so hopefully special teams won't play a role. We're pretty balanced, but that 3rd line is something else (and not in a good way). What I like is that after that Leaf top pair, their D is rather woeful. I hope we can take advantage of it and spend a lot of time in their end. If that D gets to the point where the Leafs see it as their achilles heel, maybe we can help them out at the TDL with Matheson, for unprotected first round picks in 2028 and 2029. Hell, Treliving won't be the GM by then, and Matheson would help them a ton, so why should he care?

But hopefully TO's is rusty and ours finds its groove with Marty's guidance I have this gut feeling that the PP won't improve until Marty hands it off completely to someone else. That's crazy of course, because why wouldn't you want a great offensive player designing the PP? Mainly because it hasn't worked for 2 years. The odd thing is, it was at least average while Sean Monahan was on it. So the question should be, why?

The Leafs have d!cks like Reaves and Domi in the lineup and a new coach that wants to prove how tough they are. It's like MSL feels he is above all this & doesn't feel toughness and intimidation are still very much a part of hockey.

It's like MSL feels he is above all this & doesn't feel toughness and intimidation are still very much a part of hockey. So far MSL has been treated like royalty and nobody holds him accountable. THAT has to stop...NOW. Are you suprised that he also acts like rules of the jungle don't apply? Here is what is the difference between corporate and private world. In a corporate world, everybody has to act, repeat ACT like they respect and "love" each other. In the private sector, you eff up, YOU'RE FIRED. I mentioned several times i had a boss who question what i did that day for the company and why i should still have a job. He even threatened to fire me several times and i just ignored him. That attitude never, NEVER EVER happens in corporate world. I know because i worked in both. If you read in one of my post i accuse, yes accuse Marty of being in corporate lackie because unlike BatgainBin, Hughes has created a more corporate enviroment. The downside of that is less immidiate responsibility and more leeway. So don't expect changes and quick responses from MSL or Hughes. NOBODY is going to ask MSL what he has done for the team today. THAT has to come from the top and SUPRISE, the biggest corporate ass is Mol$on. On the other hand, it's our God given right and right there in Moses Tablet that as fans, we should hold EVERYONE immidiatly accountable for their actions.

This game has a very high probability of pushing, née, smashing our buttons...
