Where is SmartyMarty in that bag skate?
I'm hard core as they come but you better be damn sure and smart how you do this..."you can blame some of the people all of the time or blame all the people some of the time BUT you can't blame all of the people all of the time".
The above is simply a Law of Personal Management...

If this is the end of the bag skate, they're likely gassed. The most telling point is that the guy who is working the hardest and competing hardest (in the bag skate!) is Lane Hutson. Put the C or at least an A on him right now. Actually you don't have to do that. Players know who the leader is, regardless of letters. Letters are just to inform the fans, and they're often misleading (Matthews). Really, who didn't know that Beliveau or Henri Richard were the leaders of the team? Or Larry. Never wore the C, but was front and centre. Was anyone fooled when Pacioretty wore the C?
Duh. Hats off to Hutson.

I'm hard core as they come but you better be damn sure and smart how you do this..."you can blame some of the people all of the time or blame at all the people some of the time BUT you can't blame all of the people all of the time". The above is simply a Law of Personal Management... It's a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln but I think a lot of these smart guys probably heard someone else say that at a cocktail party or weiner roast and used it themselves later, but because they were famous, and the schmuck who actually said it was a neighbour 5 doors down, the real smarty is never credited with it. I know. I've said something at a meeting that was witty and relevant and 3 weeks later someone else is using it and hearing compliments. Complaining that you said it first and that someone else 100 years ago probably said it before you anyway, doesn't solve anything. How about this, "There's nothing new under the moon". Smart, huh? Bet no one said that before.

Bet no one said that before. I don't know who said it and don't care when...but i know it's real. I have a temper, along with anal and obsessive when it comes to getting things done. You can't have 300 people democracy in manufacturing or 14 GM democracy with 14,000 employees. People MUST do what they are told and if not, hold them accountable. But you simply can't fire them all so you pick off the worse...or on very, very rare occasion shake up all of them. The above has one massive caveat...you better know what you're doing or you're going to lose credibility and leadership. You can't be MThead yeller or a BargainBin buddy. Is SmartyMarty that smart? Stay tuned....

This is the third time I'm writing about this goal, but it stuck in my craw... I hate the word "systemic" because how a certain political group uses it...but we have systemic defensive issues. The 4th Kraken goal... X was trying to pass to Mailman (24)...but Mailman was nowhere near where he needed to be to receive the pass. Mailman should of gone to the boards but was afraid of moving away because 22 was in the slot. For Mailman to move into position on the boards, Dvo (28 ) has to move back and cover 22. While X screwed up the pass, 60% on him, two other also failed to properly execute their positions. 40% was on Dvo for failing to cover the man closest to him, 22, who came into the slot and scored. Systemic defensive failure...

SmartyMarty should not look at the Laval score sheet. Mailman is scoring at a 2 point per game pace. Roy is at 1PPG.
Let's bring Mailman up and put him with our great vet defenseman! In our vaunted defensive system! Led by great coaching!
.
EDIT...make it now OVER 2 points a game.

Wasnt Dach hit high by Coutourier? Barron was nailed by Trouba and now this.
Isn't that enough evidence for him to realize he needs to dress a tougher lineup?
I wasn't watching by this point. Was there payback? I mean, they could go after the Penguins top skaters but after Crosby & Malkin, who is there to hit?

Struble fought Graves at the final whistle and basically held his own, while Xhekaj inflicted some cross-check pain on Acciari, who was obviously not going drop the gloves with the Sheriff.
Laval is full of attitude and aggression, and that applies to the most talented guy in the lineup to the least.

Should really start a new thread, but I'm lazy ... Pascal Vincent is earning quite the reputation in Laval ... he's using the same system(s) in Laval that they're using in Montreal ... Laval is structured, and the players get it, while the players in Montreal look confused ... Laval is winning, while the Habs are marking time ...
Cheers.

Could be that they have a lot of top prospects in Laval and solid goaltending, oh ya and AHL opponents.

Saw Laval play live a couple weeks ago sandwiched in between two Habs games, the difference in quality of hockey is pretty massive. Tons of bad passes, mistakes, turnovers in AHL hockey in comparison to the NHL.

Your right, the difference in quality is clear, but the guys in Laval have bought into the system because they're hungry, with the big team they aren't... especially when you have guys like dvorak armia Anderson and Evans who know their time in Montreal is coming to an end and the other ones with big money don't look very happy.

I don't understand the extreme lack of patience, nor the making fun of the coaches name. Isn't this fifth grade stuff? It's frustration. The Laine trade raised everyone's hopes and then the injury dashed them. It's similar to scoring a goal and having it called back. That actually hurts teams and they're often scored on themselves afterwards. We should be managing this better than we are, but there are factors that make it easy to get angry, yell etc. There are question marks over Marty's ability to implement a system that works for the team. He's had over 2 years and they still look confused in their own end, even Savard and Matheson. Is Marty another Rod Brindamour or another Wayne Gretzky? I'm not honestly sure and if he's Wayne, we need to move on ASAP. I was paying attention to Pascal Vincent, who is teaching Marty's system in Laval. The team there has a lot of youth as well. They're playing well, the Habs aren't. Marty may still be the answer

I'm a huge Mailman supporter...but...
Mailman was sat on his butt fighting for possession twice in 5 seconds, then i started noticing more of it through the game. He doesn't have that problem as much in the AHL.
On the other hand, Vincent has given Mailman a Matheson level lattitude to play offensive hockey so...he's going to own the AHL.
I'm hoping that Mailman and coaching work on his balance and gap control, then watch who is going to be the real number 1 in Montreal. Hutson has the brainpower but he'll NEVER be 6'3" and 225 to be an all around defenseman.
For us old timers...JC Tremblay vs Savard/Lapoint
EDIT...as for the diffrrence of success brtween the teams, mainly different level of the teams and their lesgue. Laval is loaded and better then most of their competition. Habs are not, also a different level of hunger....so the results are vastly different.

I wonder if the other teams are using PED's more assiduously than Montreal. I truly wonder sometimes, how many players are extending their careers or just making the NHL. It's not like Bettman is trying very hard to catch anyone. I believe they even tell the teams when they're going to get tested. I would love to see Ovie tested when he's not expecting it. And a few others. Clearly, the way Montreal is losing board battles, none of their players are guilty.

Neither PEDs or pedicures will help balance issues. I know through extensive experience in butt bouncing that board wars are about balance as much as brute stregnth.
Mailman size will give him an advantage eventually but ONLY if he practices against his equals or stronger.
Him against Guhle would be one hell of a challange. Mailman will need a whooppee cushion but eventually, they will turn the front of the net into a death zone.
There is sooo much potential that I'm hoping this is the dark before the dawn...

Xhekaj kneed Acciari at the end of the game, and they discussed it on the panel at the end of the game. Basically Bieksa and Gazdic thought Arber was right in trying to goad Acciari to fight. Thought they had to send a message to the rest of the league to leave their young stars alone. Botteril was disgusted, thought Arber was totally wrong and said "the league is changing and that kind of stuff is wrong". When the two pushed back and said something had to be done, she said "what, get suspended?"
I'm not sure how Jen Botteril thinks the game is changing. Will Acciari get suspended? Not likely. He might get a $2500 fine. Which is peanuts. Will Arber get suspended? Doubtful. So if these kind of hits aren't getting suspensions, aren't getting fines, then prey tell Ms Botteril, how is the game changing? How do we get it out of the game? There wasn't even a penalty called on the play!! So if the league is not policing these hits, the players have to. So I'd like to know what she thinks should be done. Turn a blind eye and let those hits keep happening? Write Acciari a tersely worded letter demanding an apology? Please Ms Botteril, inquiring minds need to know your plan to change the game

For sure, her take makes no sense because the refs and the league itself do not police the game properly. Cheap shots, many to the head, abound and half the time there is not even a minor penalty.
Xhekaj and Struble showed they care, like Anderson did against the Capitals.
And since it is not great idea to have d-men getting a lot of fighting majors and potentially game misconducts, management should see that it is high time to make the fourth line an identity line who can keep up with the pace of the game while playing edgy, angry hockey.

She huffed and she puffed and...she blew some smoke.
I hate to say this because I met a lot of REALLY tough woman, but she sounded like a woman (and some man) huffing about why we don't sing kumbaya and turn the other cheek when provoked by bullies.
That attitude lasts about 1.3 seconds when they are threatened and they are or can become real victims.
My wife was like that years ago until some whacko husband walked into my factory and demanded, real loudly to talk to a lady that worked for me. Scared all the other ladies and of course one of my guys, who just happened to be fresh out a kibutz and use to violence, took care of business in an instance. And I mean took care of it. Saved me the trouble.
Right there she understood and will never forget...that the only thing a bully is afraid off and normally deterred is by a bigger, meaner, nastier bully.
Lastly...X and company need some street smarts dealing in that world. Starts by never, ever making a public announcement of intent. The kids on the block don't need to see the brick in hand to know there will be a brick used...they just need to believe and have no doubt that it will be a brick...

Completely agree about bullying. In most cases, bullies are cowards at heart and just standing up to them (putting the thought in their head that, "Whoa, some of MY blood could be spilled here") is enough to deflate them. There are those who persist and they are the ones who need 'adjusting', through the use of a bigger, meaner use of force.
I missed that panel discussion, but Botterill must think a hundred thousand years of evolution is going to be reversed in a couple of years. Not to mention that the NHL doesn't want to reduce the violence. It sells tickets. Suspension? Ha. Acciari got nothing.
No, the only thing that will deter Acciari is either having his own concussion issues and it derailing his career, or having a star on his team disabled for a period of time and his coach will then adjust behaviours. And HNIC, please improve your panel. Bieksa is the only one I care for (unless Friedman is also on. The rest are Captain Obvious or simply there for optic reasons.

Bieksa played the game from the rough end of the ice.
Botterril is knowledgable and well spoken but half the reason she is there is optics. Nor can she apply how woman play hockey to the violence level of the NHL. She probably dreamed that if the NHL was "nicer", she could play in it. NOPE.
