People fear Primeau. How many players are there on the Habs that people fear? None? You can never have enough of these kind of players. I'd prefer he be shipped to Calgary, but if you can at least get this guy out of the Atlantic, I'm happy.

No one will fear anyone on the Habs even with the new players. In fact, I doubt whether any NHL player jumps over the boards with fear in his heart no matter who's out there. If he does, he should try another sport.

How many players do fans label as "afraid to go in the corners" "afraid of digging for loose pucks" "afraid of doing the dirty work"... now, how often do fans ask themselves just what it is exactly that makes some players afraid of doing this? It's guys like Primeau.

Most people fear the unknown, and you never know what a dirty player is going to do. So the dirty players that are willing to injure are the ones that are feared.
These individuals of course are in addition to those players like Primeau....feared, no respected, because of thier size, toughness and streak of meanness.

It's guys like Primeau. Yup. I'd take Primeau on my team any day. He's a warrior. His offensive game took a dive in the last 2 years as he might have been asked to a do a bit more 2-way work than before. His combiantion of skill and size would be unparalleled in Montreal and no, we couldn't land this kind of player for a softy UFA to be like Perreault. One for one we have very few players that has the kind of value Primeau has. Philly has the best center line in the East IMO. OH and when Philly talks about things like depth and rolling 4 lines, they mean it... Gagne-Roenick-Amonte Chouinard-Handzus-Williams Kapanen-Primeau-Brashear Leclair-Recchi-Somik What a frightning lineup!!!

Doc, what's Chouinard doing in that line-up? They're not seriously going to play him regularly are they? If so, it will at least answer that question from enquiring minds.

You REALLY want a 32-year-old whose salary is greater than that of Ribeiro, Kilger, Ryder, Ward, Bulis, and perhaps others combined? One who's been slipping, who's been demoted to a lower line by Hitchcook (there, I avoided the rooster), who would gladly be traded by Clarke IF he could get Garon in the deal? Well, I don't. Fortunately, such experts as Bob Gainey and mr bozo agree with me. Deal's off!

I'm taking this lineup straight from an interview Hitch done apparently. Lapointe is injured right now and so the season will start with Chewy and Fedoruk battling for the 2nd LW spot. Many Flyers fans feel Fedoruk doesn't have the talent to win the battle and that this will be the big break for Chouinard. ...and yes, it would really please me if Chouinard makes it on the Flyers...

I don't think there was any substance to that rumor anyhow. Garon cleared waivers last October and though some HABS fans are now ready to believe he's the second coming of Ken Dryden after playing 7 games, his trade value is not where you feel it is. We have no player that comes close to the kind of game Primeau brings. With a little bit of immagination, one can see him being used on Saku's left wing... and that would change the dynamic of that line.

I thought about this myself, but seem to recall him not being as comfortable on the wing. Maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, Primeau doesn't put us over the top so I say play the kids at this point.

It's quite amazing that people can debate for 5 pages over whether or not Keith Primeau would be a good pickup for the Habs. He would be. In fact, I can't think of another team who could use a guy like Primeau more than Montreal. If Philly wants to talk I'd be all ears and I'd give up a more than Yanic Perreault to get him, that's for sure. He's 32 and makes $5mm a year, which is fair money for his combination of size, skill, tougness, leadership, experience, and the fact that he's a centre who can play in all situations. It's a no brainer.

Hitch said he fully intend to reduce the role of both Leclair and Recchi in order to get the younger guys in gear. That being said, ice time will certainly be well spread across ALL the lines.

If Primeau would be the best fit for the Canadiens, I'm sure Gainey would notice it, because Primeau is not an inconspicuous player. His absence in a CH uniform suggests that Primeau is not someone who must be acquired at all costs in the eyes of our management. I'm not a great admirer of Primeau at this stage in his career. I don't deny that I hold strong opinions and don't mince words. Other Habs fans are of course entitled to their opinions, and they don't hesitate to state them either. That's fine with me. By the way, I will also go on record as saying that trading Rod Brind'Amour to bring Primeau to Philadelphia was not one of Clarke's wisest moves.

It's a no brainer. Don't get me wrong, I definitely agree that Primeau would be a much nicer fit for us than Perrault, bringing us many of the elements that we seem to be missing up the middle (toughness, grit and solid two way play), however, the idea that, at 5million a year Primeau is worth more than perrault and a few spare parts or later round draft picks (3rd, 4th) is ridiculous IMO. As last seasons playoff showed, face off skills are huge come crunch time, and maybe for that reason alone, Perrault has more value than some people seem to give him credit for (though his value now is clearly less than it will be right around the trade deadline), I'm banking on Gainey holding on to him until after X-mas, and then dealing him to a contender in need of some face off help. As far as Primeau being worth 5mill... Not in my books! After his contract expires this season, Primeau will be lucky to get a penny more than 3 mill (unless, of course, he goes to the Rangers), he's 32, clearly on the down swing of his offensive potential, and despite seeming to possess all of the necessary qualities, has been rumoured to be a poor leader... Primeau's future is as a top notch third line centre, that's about it. Looking around the league, the best 3rd line centres (Draper, Walz, Madden-who i'd take over primeau in a heart beat-) all make under 2mill!

His absence in a CH uniform suggests that Primeau is not someone who must be acquired at all costs in the eyes of our management. I fail to see the logic behind this Blaise. I can understand that you don't like Primeau (heck I don't like Koivu eventhough he's a semi-God around here) but the fact that a player doesn't wear the CH is not necessarely an indication that he's not wanted. It takes 2 to tango, maybe Primeau isn't as "available" as you make him out to be or maybe his acquisition price isn't as low as you feel it should be.

Doc, Primeau is more available than you seem to think. Prediction: Clarke will trade him before the deadline in March.
Also, what would you be prepared to give up to get Primeau and his salary, assuming your offer satisfied Clarke? Some posters have suggested Yannic Primeau, but that wouldn't do it. Would you surrender Perezhogin? Plekanec? Higgins? Hossa? I think you wouldn't even consider giving up any of them straight up for Primeau. Heck, I wouldn't trade Ribeiro for Primeau, and you know I think Ribeiro still has to prove himself.

I'd normally take you up on that prediction but I can't since Clark's stupidity forbides any kind rational analysis and prediction What would I give up for Primeau... mmm! It' a good question. He's a UFA at the end of the year I believe so the risks are high. I'd give up Ribs for him but it wouldn't interest the Flyers nor would Plekanec IMO. Hossa, Higgins and other top notch prospect is too much for a guy on such a short contract... Philly is so stacked all over the place it's not funny... But they might be a little thin on LW and could use an offensive dmen. Brisebois/Kilger for Primeau ?
