Yeah, I don't mind Weaver being re-signed because he can actually play. Cube is way past his best before date.

There’s an expectation that defencemen Jarred Tinordi, Nathan Beaulieu and Greg Pateryn will get a shot at playing regularly in the National Hockey League, but Bergevin said “that will be up to them.”
Asked what would happen if the kids weren’t ready next season, Bergevin said: “I have a Plan B.” [/b]http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Habs+Bergevin+ready+anything+draft/9978884/story.html[/quote] Trade or major free agent signing coming then.

Wouldn't that mean that he's already decided that they aren't ready then? If anything, I would think that it means there is NO trade or free agent signing coming. A major trade trade or free agent signing would be your Plan A, no? Anyways, I think Bergevin is just talking the talk... as I said in another thread I don't put too much weight into anything he says. I'm sure he does have a Plan B, everybody does, but I don't know if anything can be construed from it. A Plan B is just whatever you do after your main plan fails, and that could be... well, anything.

No way I would start season with 3 rookies on blueline.

Neither Tinordi or Beaulieu are pure rookies. Both have played reasonable amounts in the NHL, so there would be little if any adjustments for them, except for working on their weaknesses.

Beaulieu + Tinordi > Murray + Bouillon.
To me it's not even a question as to whether or not those guys are NHL ready. They are. And they are better than what we had last year, so I don't get it. The only question is how they are going to be handled. Personally, I would deal one of them to address other needs but their value is only being reduced by having them play in Hamilton.
Another area where Berg needs to be a real manager and figure it out.

So Plan A is to see if Beaulieu, Tinordi and Pateryn are NHL ready, and his Plan B gets revealed in October if they aren't ready .... I can't see that working.

H won't need Plan B. The kids will be fine. (Caveat - as long as Therrien plays them and Lefebvre is not involved)

Totally off topic but according to Tim Panaccio
sources claim the Flyers “left no stone unturned” trying to trade Vincent Lecavalier (who’s owed a $2 million bonus on July 1) during the draft. If they cannot trade him before July 1, Panaccio speculates the Flyers’ only choice will be to buy out the remainder of his contract. Buyout would look like this....number count against cap:
2014-15: $1,500,000 2015-16: $3,000,000 2016-17: $3,000,000 2017-18: $2,500,000 2018-19: $1,000,000 2019-20: $1,000,000 2020-21: $1,000,000 2021-22: $1,000,000

At least with Briere, it was only a 2 year mistake. Unfortunately, he was 35 when signed.

He'd be forced and would want to have a different attitude. I'd sign him for a few years and for a few million and hope he finds his mojo.

I'm not sure how he'd react in Montreal. Perhaps he'd find his mojo, or he might go the other way and say to hell with it, who needs the pressure. I don't think I'd risk it, unless it was for 1 year at $1MM maybe. Fourth line money. Nah, not even then...let's just move on.

He did manage 20g for the Flyers, but I have no interest. Rather spend money on the older, but still game, Iginla.

He's a good guy, but we can't afford to pay anything near $3MM (which is sort of what I suspect he wanted) for a 3rd line right winger who can't shoot that well. Good penalty killer, but maybe we can pick up Brian Boyle on Tuesday. Good on faceoffs and he raises the average height and weight a bunch all by himself.

I don't know who..Iggy, Moulson, Hemsky? Can't see Gorges or Plekanec being traded now as lower than expected cap reduce suitors. If he was going to deal them been leading up to draft. I think Bergs will re-sign Weaver or another d-man. Englland can play defense/forward and must be tough, remember he ko'd Colton Orr one night. Stoner be good also, if Weaver walks. Edit: Could be Dan Boyle also...Dreger's twitter now saying we are high on his list.

Unfortunate to lose Gianta...... Apparently they just couldn't define his role plus money was a issue. It does open a opportunity to add size to our forward group.

Gio is a tough call. On the one hand, it's easy to say we have better and cheaper options internally. But despite the bicep injury, Gionta still managed 18 goals and 40 points this year which was 6th best on the team. Along with being captain a solid PK guy, that's pretty good production and it's not a slam dunk that a guy like Bournival can duplicate that.
Berg better know what he's doing. He has no problem with not even offering Vanek a contract and if he lets Gio walk, that's about 45-50 goals that need to be replaced for a team that is already starved for offense.
