I can't wait for that press conference! If it's Julien...this is a great day. Probably the best candidate available right now(who speaks french) Claude has paid his dues baby with howling success. He is my 1st choice, give him some time, everybody.

Charron or Julien........ I would think it's Charron though. I can't see them being able to hire Julien that easily. He is Oilers property.

I truly hope Savard called Bowman at least there is no chance he would accept but it's worth a try
and Julien is a very good choice if true but i wonder if the veterants will accept him, they are a difficult bunch...

Julien is (was) part of the Oilers organization, not the Habs. If it is Julien, then we did a deal with the Oilers. Either money or a pick.

We have a really good relationship with the Oilers and they could very well let us use Julien until the end of the season.

Yup. and SOMEONE would have seen Julien leave Hamilton this morning boarding a plane for MTL and reported it. although TFP says Julien as well: (The Fourth Period.com) -- The Montreal Canadiens have fired head coach Michel Therrien. He will be replaced by Claude Julien, who was coaching the Habs affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs. Anews conference is scheduled for noon today. More details to follow. I am betting on Charron at this point.

Team 990 just reported that Charron might coach 1 or 2 games only to be replaced by Julien. while we work with the Oil for compensation? That would make sense. Here is what CJAD has said: Montreal, Posted 17 Jan 2003 11:13 AM -- The slumping Montreal Canadiens have fired head coach Michel Therrien, according to a Montreal television report. A Canadiens spokesman said she could not confirm the report but the team called a news conference for noon (CJADs Rob Martier will be there) Reports say Guy Julien, coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League will replace Therrien. The Bulldogs are a joint farm team for the Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers Therrien, 39, who replaced Alain Vigneault as head coach on Nov. 20, 2000, was in his third season with the Canadiens. Prior to Friday's games, the Canadiens were fourth in the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division with an 18-19-4-5 record.

I'd rather we get Julien, but if it means AS gave up anything of value, it already starts to lose some interest. Still, if he's the right guy a 3d rounder or something is something we can live without. And remember, Julien might be the coach the Oilers had planned for the future, they have a tradition of hiring coaches from within the org, so they wouldn't just let him go without caring...

well MacT is doing well with that team(winning plenty of games lately) so they are not in dire need of a new coach now or probably any time soon....

I don't think we'll have to compensate the oilers if the Habs hire Julien. There seems to be an unwritten rule in the NHL that assistant and farm-team coaches are allowed to go to other teams if it is for a head coaching position.

The slightly wealthier habs are probably paying all the bills in Hamilton, either way it won't cost us much. This isn't the NFL where 1st rd picks are swapped for coaches all the time.

Julien's bio:
From TSN:
Julien has a long track record of success as a head coach. He led the Hull Olympiques to a Memorial Cup championship in 1997, putting together a 145-118-19 record in four seasons.
He coached the Canadian National Junior Team to a Bronze Medal finish at the 2000 World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden. He also won the Silver Medal as an assistant coach of the National Junior Team the year before in Winnipeg.
In 1997 he was the head coach of the Canadian Under-18 Team which won the Gold medal at the Three-Nations tournament in the Czech Republic.
He took over the Bulldogs in April, 2000, and has helped turn them into the best team in the AHL. They are 33-6-3-3 this season, and went 18 games without a loss during one stretch.
-------------------
If he is really the coach...AS is saying ''kids are coming'' IMO...most of them have played with Julien and all of them with the team now(Ribs, Hainsey and Hossa) have praised him
Hopefully Ward is around the corner!

I've got a mathematical equation that will explain everything
Julien + kids + system - Travesty - Audi - Dykhuis = 25th cup
