Tal Wilkenfeld, bassist extraorindinaire. Not even 22 years old. Hot player...and not too hard on the eyes. She switched from guitar to bass....and in four years is playing with the likes of Jeff Beck and Chick Corea.....not to mention her own recordings. Bio on WikipediaHere she is with Jeff Beck at the Crossroads 07 show. Beck, WilkenfeldWonderful solo in "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" (Blow by Blow album) Then they do a cut from "Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop". Powerful stuff. And it's only Vinnie Colaiuta on drums! A true master. Holy crap, what a band. Jason Rebello on keys. Beck continues to be one of the most orginial guitarists going. He's going to be 64 this year.

TE uses Maton guitars from Australia. The guitar used in this video was the same one he played in TO. It's only two years old. He plays a tune called "Initiation" where he beats the hell out of it with the reverb maxed out to simulate rain, thunder, wind, stampeding wild animals and such. Really cool tune. Listening to it you'd swear you were sitting out a storm in the middle of the outback at night. You can find this and tons of other information at his website. 1 x Rack Case (4 space) 2 x Alesis Midiverb II's (1 is a spare) 1 x Korg DTR-2000 Digital Tuner 1 x Audiotec DI-Four (4 channel DI unit) 1 x AER Compact 60 amp 1 x 220/240 volt to 110/115 volt step down transformer ** Cables are Laboga and Belden It's a simple set-up with 3 DI lines out. A 4th line can be used for right out of the Midiverb if needed. This set-up isolates the clean guitar signal from the effects signal. 01: Guitar (dry) 02: Alesis Midiverb II - left (FX) 03: AER Compact 60 - line out (amp 1) This system is 110 volt set-up, but can be used in countries which have 220/240 volt power when plugged into a step down transformer. "HOW IT"S WIRED" Guitar to Tuner input. Tuner output to DI input channel 1. DI channel 1 link to Midiverb left in. Midiverb left output to DI input channel 2. DI channel 2 link to AER amp input. AER amp line output to DI channel 3 input. This is a simple mono set-up. CH1 - guitar (dry), CH2 - Midiverb left, CH3 - AER amp. WRT Tal @ Crossroads 07, I assumed she was Beck's daughter or grand-daughter. Very impressive line on her resume to have played with these players.

Okay....one of the greatest (if not the greatest) bassists in the world. Victor WootenIf you're into mastery of an instrument, this guy would be worth catching. He usually plays with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. A feast for the ears.....if you're into that kind of music. Jazz banjo..... Vic's take on Norwegian Wood

Came by this one by chance. Try to stay with it the whole way through. Pretty good homemade video. Hilarious in some parts: "Damn! This is good ... who is this? ... how much is the? I'll take two!!" "I just paid $18,000 to divorce my wife. If she was more like the broad in the song maybe I'd have stayed with her." Short Skirt Long Jacket

That they lost in the Finals is enough punishment.... Is that a lament, a ballad, a dirge...or all three? More applicable to the Leafs' season.

More applicable to the Leafs' season. Nah... the line "and each man is giving his all" automatically disqualifies the Leafs from that song...

I remember being at Friday's in Montreal when a local boy was playing his one-hit wonder that went to #1 on CJAD or CKGM. Ross Holloway sang "Mostly New Days" and it went to #1 on the charts. Now it's just a memory in my mind. I would love to find it and share it with my kids. Do any of you music experts know where I could find it? Thanks in advance.

Stratus is a cut from "Spectrum" 1973. It was his first solo album after playing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra (what a band that was). I bought "Spectrum" when I was in Grade 10. My buddies thought I was nuts. But, like you, I'm a drummer....and I was blown away. Featuring the late great Tommy Bolin on guitar, Jan Hammer on keys, Lee Sklar on bass. The first cut Quadrant 4 is fantastic. Double-kick throughout. A cruisin' down the road song for progressive jazz fans. I think I'll take the CD to Toronto with me today.

I figured you'd chime in CH. It's been a while since I listened to Cobham, years in fact, and came across Spectrum on my hard drive by accident. Cranked up the volume and fell into a hypnotic trance listening to the Stratus drum and bass groove. Man, that brings back memories.

I could get used to this. Cheers. Cobham's not for everybody. His style is as eclectic as one can get. Jazzy, latin, prog rock influences. Sometimes a little over the top even for me, but he is a pioneer.

Went back to CH's post mentioning Tal Wilkenfeld and sent off a few You Tube clips to my nephew in Kanata. His mother bought him a used base and amp for his birthday and for Christmas last year she purchased him some lessons.
The young guy now has three base guitars and has taken to it quite a bit.
Cheers.
