Dogs lose tonight 5-4. Watched the Habs kick some Rags in those cool jerseys, so did not even catch any of it on the radio. C'est la vie.
I can report that offense was no problem. 3-3 after one, 4-4 after two, but unfortunately 4-5 after the final buzzer. Glumac with a pair, Chipper's line was all plus two as he picked up two helpers and his buddies had a point each. They did their job. Guess who the next call up should be if ever needed?
They all miss D'Ago's extra scoring touch that was just seen on national TV tonight for the first time tonight. Although, four goals should win a game. I can hardly wait to track down the interview with Lever after this game.

Dogs fans could be in for a treat if they are able to catch any of tonight's game against Grand Rapid Griffons (farm team of the Red Wings). They could very well see young 20 years olds like Ben Maxwell streaking along going one on one with ageless Chris Chelios, who is down in the farm on a short conditioning stint.
Riding a season high three game losing skid, let's hope tonight's game is what the doctor ordered for the boys to get back on track with their winning ways. They likely should not count on Matt D'Agostini for these two weekend games (Sat/Sun) as Matt seems to be hard to knock out of a roster spot these days and should be quite busy in front of 21,273.

Chris Chelios shared one thing in common with most of the Hamilton Bulldogs tonight...the team that drafted him. On his second game of a reconditioning stint, he added some veteran experience to Grand Rapid's back end tonight. However, the latest generation of Hab draftees had the last laugh in a big 5-2 road win to snap a season high three game losing skid. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005108Chipper with a huge game had two goals and was named the game's first star. Ben Maxwell and Mathieu Carle had two assists, and both Carle and Dan Jancevski enjoyed a solid game at +3 tonight. Desharnais, White and Aubin (who is playing much better of late) rounded out Hamilton's scoring. Desjardins got the W in net. Back home to Steeltown tomorrow to host the Marlies and their god-awful blue and white jerseys. Go Dogs Go!

Another little bit of nostalgia from this game tonight.
Alex Henry pounded former Hab Aaron Downey (how about that ole knuckle dragger, HA?).
This Dogs' team is a lot less fun to play against than it was last year.

Last week the Hamilton Spectator that had a headline that read, "Dogs let one get away, big time." Well, let's dust that puppy off as it applies big time to today's tilt against the Baby Leafs...of all teams. The Dogs had a 5-2 lead after one minute into the third, in what should have been two points in the proverbial bank. You know where I am going with this. 3 goals in the third and the game winner with less than a minute to play in the OT, on a penalty shot, and the Dogs got stiffed today by their provincial rivals. Desjardins got another start after a solid outing last night, but this was not one for the ages for the young keeper. 6 goals on 20 shots is not up to snuff in any league. Weber, Wyman, Chipchura, Belle and Carle scored for the good guys. Belle was named second star in the loss, and Ryan White collected two more points with his two assists. Belle is quietly putting together a solid season, as recently confirmed by Coach Lever in an interview. He may be pulling all that potential this season, that which helped him get selected 30th overall in 2003...the same draft year as A Kosty, Lapierre, OB and Halak. He is a big mobile and fast skating dman who plays a solid defensive game. You can never have too many of those. Here are all the gory details (or stats): stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005118I am sure Coach Lever will have a few choice words in tomorrow Spec.

As expected, Lever did have some juicy sound bites for the Spec:
"You saw what happened, write it," snapped an angry head coach Don Lever at a reporter after the game.
Lever said his team is playing scared because their goaltenders are giving up five goals a game.
"They have to be accountable. I'm not feeling sorry for them. It's very disappointing. We deserved to win that game."
Also, this could have been a costly loss for the Dogs, as Captain Chipper left the game early in the third with what looked like a groin injury. Aubin also left the game on crutches, so they could be getting down some forwards if either is serious. Losing their best two way forward and top shut down guy obviously hurt their chances of holding the lead...but three goals in the third?
Latendresse and Beauregard are both tearing it up in the ECHL, so the Dogs do have a little bench strength if either forward is out for any length of time.

Latendresse, St Denis and Lacasse (yikes) all called up to the Dogs due to the call ups to the Habs, Jancevski's call up with Dallas, and Chipper's injury.
The depth chart gets tested all around.

2-1 win for the 'Dogs. Desjardins was the difference today. Shots were 34- 16 in favor of the Marlies.
Wow Desjardins didn't get 1st star.
1st Star David Desharnais
2nd Star Cedrick Desjardins
3rd Star Alex Foster ***********************************************************************
Dallas Stars announced today that defenceman Dan Jancevski has been reassigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
I wonder if a Shawn Belle or a Alex Henry can be more effective than the struggling O'Bryne has on the Habs blueline?

Great to see Desjardins with a solid game tonight. Glumac with a goal with another solid game, he has been on a decent streak of late. Desharnais with the winning goal and the first star, and Desjardins the second star for facing all that rubber tonight.

2-0 Bulldogs last night.
Desjardins with another good game, he's a real hot and cold goalie and when he's hot he looks exceptional. He made 35 saves for the shutout.
Mike Glumac and Yanick Lehoux scored for the 'Dogs.
Max Pac with another assist last night making it 15 for the season. All he has to do is get his scoring game in gear.
Note: Chips attempted to skate Tuesday and it did not go well. Chipchura was only on the ice for about 10 minutes when he pulled up and headed back to the team's medical room. He's nursing a groin injury for almost two weeks now and will be out till at least after Christmas.
Aubin saw a specialist Monday who confirmed he has a high ankle sprain that will not require surgery. He'll likely miss another seven weeks.

Note: Montreal Canadiens announced that goaltender Marc Denis has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs

Nice weekend for the Dogs getting all four points up for grabs, and without their number one goalie (Denis) who will now be back with the team, without their team captain who is nursing that sore groin, and two of their offensive sparks who are still up with the Habs. Good to see the rest of the boys step it up and nice to see Desharnais contributing again after going a little quiet of late before this weekend.

I'd just like to say thanks for the updates on the Bulldogs guys, it saves me the time it takes to find and read recaps and impressions from elsewhere. I'm planning on going to see the Dogs when they're here in Winnipeg on the 27th and maybe the 29th of March, so hopefully they continue to play well. The best part is I'll probably be in one of the luxury suites thanks to a company a friend of mine works for and thus, no need to worry about people whispering snide remarks to their friends at the game whilst I take notes.

Tonight's line-up is sans Pacioretty. Is he hurt? 1-0 Rochestor after 1 period.
Edit: Just found out Chips and Max were called up to the Habs, not sure exactly why. So Chips is off the DL.

They lost 2-1 with quite a shorthanded lineup with D'Ago, Maxwell, Chipper and Pacioretty all joining the Habs in Pittsburgh. They lost to the Rochester Americans, who eventually had to win again...too bad it was against the Dogs. Tough playing one skater short of the allowed limit though, as you have double shift guys to roll four lines...and that is what Lever did. Fits well into his game plan as he likes to changes lines on the fly. This is a tough stretch for the Dogs to be playing without a lot of top players. They play four in five nights, with another road game in Syracuse tonight before two games at home on Sun/Tues. Edit: Third game is on Sunday, for three in three, before that fourth game on Tuesday night. Hard keeping days of the week straight this time of year!!

Well, the Dogs had Syracuse where they wanted them tonight. Up 4-2 and on the PP just under 7 minutes into the third...and then those proverbial wheels came tumbling off. A shortie at that point was the turning point that led to Syracuse getting three in a row to mount a massive comeback. Sure, the Dogs were without a ton of forwards (D'Ago, Maxwell, Chipper and Pacioretty), but their offense was fine. In the end it was the back end that did not hold up their end (repetition int'end'ed...lol). Marc Denis got his first start since coming back from enjoying some front row seats in Montreal. Right back at it with a home game (and hopefully a revenge match) with Rochester in the Dog Pound on Sunday night. Let's hope Chipper and Pacioretty are back to bolster the lineup. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005238

Dogs snap two game losing streak with a dramatic win this afternoon, 4-3 at home against Rochester in a shootout. Dogs gave up a first period 3-0 lead to the woeful Amerks, and then stormed back with 43 shots, three straight goals and a 3 out of 5 guys scored on the shootout to seal the deal. Denis was pretty bad in the first, and then kitty barred the door. Good thing with Desjardins nursing a groin injury now. Desharnais, Pacioretty and Weber get the goals in regulation. Pacioretty and Chipper both back with the club tonight. They all play again in two nights for their fourth in five. stats.theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1005241

Great finish to what looked to be an awful game for us last night!
Yannik Webber offensive game has really come around netting 11 points in his last 11 games including 5 goals. He is currently 8th in the AHL for defencemen in points and tied for 2nd in the AHL for goals scored by defencemen.Needs to work on his defensive coverage as the Habs brass feels Weber is not ready defensively to play in the NHL.
Patches has been improving in the point department as well. In his last 13 games he has 11 points.(3 goals and 8 assist)He is getting better as the season goes on but I would like to see him throw his weight around as his speed and size allows him to throw some nice checks. He does go to the net and doesn't mind playing on the boards.

Wonder what Don Lever said between periods to get the boys going. Great for the confidence of the team. Note:The Bulldogs called up goaltender Loic Lacasse from Cincinnati of the ECHL yesterday because Cedrick Desjardins is out with a groin pull according to THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR. www.thespec.com/Sports/article/488543. Desjardins got hurt sometime last week after having a pretty solid run while Denis was called up. What I like most about Denis' quotes in that article is how he got pissed off enough and had no intention of letting another bad goal in...and apparently the rest of the team took the same high road. He likely was a little mentally and physically rusty after not getting any game time during his call up in Montreal. Good news is that Desjardins is only expected to be out a week...but it is a groin injury and they are tricky and often nagging. The Dogs play tonight against those horrible dudes in blue and white, and then again on Friday and Saturday night. Let's hope he gets better soon, as any game in which Lacasse is dressed in the AHL is a potentially scary night!!

Chipchura and Pacioretty both score to help their case for a callup while Hamilton wins in a 4-0 rout of the Marlies.
Jancevski with 3 assists. Carle and Russell got the other goals. I listened to the game for a bit, and it sounded like Toronto was never really in it. NWT will have to comment further, if he caught the game.
