Gotta get this in, before Tattac comes in and scoops me! CSKA played another friendly today, and pulled off an 8-6 victory. Alas, not a good day for our favorite sons; neither Kostitsyin, nor Korneev managed a single point, though they both picked up a penalty each. Nikolai Zherdev had a couple of points, but the big offensive force was Kings prospect Sergei Anshakov, who had four points...

Nice to see Kastsitsyn has been up for a few (2?) games up to now. Im guessing he is on the bottom 2 lines since he started off the year in CSKA-2. His production may be low because of the ice time hes getting, if Zherdev does in fact come to NA, hopefully Kastsitsyn can earn Zherdev's old spot. When was Anshakov drafted, cant seem to find it?

From RussianProspects.com: CSKA Moscow vs. U20 Team Russia 8:6 Friendly Game Goals: 1:0 Khomitsky (Emeleev, Danilov – 10:02 PP); 2:0 Upper (14:48); 3:0 Kolkunov (Mozyakin – 28:10 PP); 3:1 Pestunov (Anshakov – 29:21); 4:1 Luchinkin (Kolkunov – 31:08 PP); 5:1 Butsayev (Zherdev, Chernykh – 40:29); 6:1 Zherdev (Lyamin – 44:27 SH); 6:2 Shinin (Malyushkin – 44:57 PP); 6:3 Ermolin (45:34 PP); 6:4 Anshakov (Pestunov, Ermolin – 47:49); 7:4 Chernykh (Mozyakin – 53:10); 7:5 Anshakov (54:43); 7:6 Anshakov (Tunik – 59:01); 8:6 Pronin (59:22 EN); Goalies: Saflitsky – Barulin (Borisov 40:00-58:44; 59:01-59:08; 59:22-60:00) PIM: 44-28 Prospect Notes: Los Angeles Kings prospect Sergei Anshakov was U20 Team Russia’s best standout, scoring 3 goals and assisting on two others. Russia’s top line Anshakov – Pestunov- Ermolin did most damage. Intrestingly, Montreal Canadiens prospect Andrei Kostytsin skated for CSKA’s main squad in this contest, on the contrary to the rumor that has been circulating regarding the young player’s impending move to North America. Another surprise was the 2004 NHL Entry Draft prospect Sergei Karetin’s appearance on CSKA’s blue line. The young blue liner has been surpassed by some other players on CSKA’s defensive depth and has been removed from the ’86 national team, but appears to still be holding some interest from Viktor Tikhonov. www.russianprospects.com/

Just wait till the next time! Monday (Sept. 1). And the game will be on TV! I would add that Kostitsyn played for CSKA and Korneev played for the Junior Team Russia. No first-hand scouting report, Tattac? Tsk, tsk, tsk. This is HabsRus, if you aren't willing to provide a 15 page synopis of AK's play during the game, including overall play, points, shots, shot locations, disposition, body language, pre-game weight versus post game weight, liquid intake (in both metric and imperial, for our American friends) and number of nose explorations (both self and teamates), then you aren't really one of us. We expect the best here, after all... I see his team lost again, 3-2 in overtime, and he once again had no points, but picked up another penalty (Zherdev, as an aside, had another point). At least he's playing with the team, on a seemingly consistent basis. Any word on whether they play on keeping him up, once the "friendlies" are over? (gonna have to move this thread over to the Prospects Board soon)

why..it has the potential to be a new Dyment ;D You know how much I miss the Dyment thread. Now it seems that if Kastytsyn drips mustard on his yellow suit it makes headlines. How many strides did he skate in the game? Was he shaking on the bench? Inquiring minds don't want to know?

Well not Kastsistyn news, but Korneev scored today as Team Russia won 7-3 over Team Finland. They are playing in the U20 4 Nations tournament in Tyumen. Korneev scored teh 7th goal an empty net, but a goal. No news from the Finnish scorers, or how Korpikari fared.

Reminds me of something Tattac mentioned this week, about Dy...er, Kostitsyn:
"A poster at the montrealcanadiens.ru forum wrote that he saw one game. Kostitsyn looks like a player who always waits for others to give him a good pass and doesn't like fighting for a puck, a young prima donna. Actually, the poster was extremelly disappointed. But it was only one game."

Kastsistyin played again Tuesday, a 2-0 victory for CSKA. No points, nor penalties for our intrepid hero, nor for Columbus wunderkid Nickolai Zherdev. But at least Kastsistyin continues to play with the big club. I wonder if he'll make the roster when the regular season starts? They seem to be taking a good long look at him anyways...

Not to doubt the veracity of said poster (like that word? veracity? not sure if its a a real one, but it sure sounds pretty), but that would seem to go against just about everything else written about Kastsistyin. Every other source - and not just Redline - has described him as tenacious and a puck hound...

Andrei Kastsitsyn's epilepsy does not worry the Canadiens
Trevor Timmins: "He never missed a game because of his health problems."
Mathias Brunet
The health of the Canadiens first choice of June 2003, Andrei Kastsitsyn, caused gossip again.
Kastsitsyn was the victim of tremors in his hotel room at a recent tournament in Finland with CSKA of Moscow, coached by the famous Viktor Tikhonov, and he chose not to have him play.
The 18 year old was considered by some the most talented forward of the 2003 vintage, but epilepsy problems frightened several NHL teams, and the Canadiens selected him with the tenth pick in the first round.
The incident in Finland however did not prevent Kastsitsyn from taking part in this competition on the CSKA's B team, with which he was highlighted by obtaining two goals and two assists in only one game.
Trevor Timmins, followed the episode closely and his health does not worry him by any means "Tikhonov is hyper protective and he wanted the opinion of a doctor before sending him into the fray. In fact, Kastsitsyn was the victim of tremors because he had just changed his medication (to control epileptic episodes). We spoke about it with our doctor, David Mulder, and there is no reason to be afraid. In any event, he outrageously dominated the game in which he took part, according to our scout."
Timmins seemed surprised by Tikhonov's decision. "However, he has never had an incident on the rink. All (his crises) occurred off the ice. Moreover, on his return from Finland, he continued training with CSKA."
"Andrei Kastsitsyn never missed a game because of his health problems", declared Timmins at the draft.
Before the draft, Kastsitsyn played in two international championships with the 18-and-under Belorussia team (26 points in nine games), a world junior championship, a championship of the world and some games in the Russian Elite League.
There remain a few weeks for Kastsitsyn to earn a position with CSKA, which would be a rare enough exploit for an 18 year old athlete. Last year, Kastsitsyn had played six games with the big club, but had been sporadically employed because of his youth. If he fails, he will join the CSKA B team and will play many tournaments with the national junior team of Bielorussia, including the WJC in December.
The rumour that he would be found in North America with the Medicine Hat Tigers this season has no basis "I don't know from where this rumour emanates, says Timmins. His rights belong to the CSKA and it would be necessary for him to obtain a release to play elsewhere."
Kastsitsyn had also been the victim of convulsions in the spring, during one weekend of tests in Toronto organized by the NHL teams, but the Canadiens had him examined minutely by their doctors and they gave the green light to the Habs recruiters following brain tests.
The young man has a physique which is reminiscent of that of Richard Zednik. It is said that he has exceptional speed, that he excels in controlling the puck and that his shot is forceful.
Let us wish that the reassuring remarks of Trevor Timmins are true.

It's good to know Mathias reads our board, and has taken the time to research and answer a pressing question. Chapeau!
Now if only Hickey could see his way clear to crank up the quality of his output...

Glad to hear it's just a rumour. Am I the only one who thinks that him being over here might be the best thing for his health? Mulder is a great team doctor, and medicine is better over hear in general.
I'm not overly concerned with Andrei's health issues. By all accounts it's treatable, and shouldn't affect his career. My only concern is the promise isn't just hype with this kid.

Kostitsyn played today in the final game of the Ramazan Cup. CSKA lost to Metalurg 6-1. Andrei had a penalty in the third period. Looks like it's becoming a tradition. I watched a the game a little bit. There was a shift when he looked like a real pest. On other shifts he looked like a floater. In the end they had shootouts. Kostitsyn almost scored on the Metalurg goalie. But almost doesn't count Bad Company, I didn't see him exploring his nose. But I have to be honest. I didn't see the whole game. Perhaps I missed it.

Mulder is a great team doctor, and medicine is better over hear in general. It's especially good in Medicine Hat. (corny joke, I know, but I just couldn't resist) Anyways... good to hear that the rumour is officially squashed, let's hope that AK-47 develops properly and becomes the superstar that this franchise so desperately needs him to be. But hey, no pressure.

Floater? FLOATER?? BUST, BUST......the sky is falling......he's a BUST! Tattac, BC was kidding when he said 15 pages of game analysis. We don't expect anything passed 10 for rookie scouting reports. But within a year, 30 pages will be fine. Here are a few little point to consider when you are doing a scouting report. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Puckmovement and Playing away from the puck Puckmovement Can the player receive passes of all types effortlessly and efficiently? Is the player essentially active or reactive? Does he seem to see a variety of puck movement options? Does show an awareness and anticipation of teammate and opposition movement? Does he use his teammates (and the opposition) well? Is his decision making (between passing and stickhandling) balanced and effective? Does he use his stickhandling/passing to increase his or teammates options? Can he make quick, effective decisions in the transition game? Does he have a long panic point? Playing away from the puck Offensively Does the player break into positions that allow someone else on his team to carry the puck more effectively or for himself to be used as a decoy or pass recipent? Does the player run interference or create space for teammates by phisically or by drawing out opposition defenders? Defensively Does the player limit the options of opposing players by correctly anticipating and interfering with passing, shooting and skating lanes? Or does he wait until the play has alredy been made to react? Does the player close the gap with precise timing and correctly anticipate the desired course of the attacking team? Both Can he be made to wander out of position or panic? Or is he the kind of player who is „at the right place at the right time"? Can the player make quick mental and physical change in the transition game? SKATING Speed Quickness: "short distance from A to B from a starting or gliding position" Footspeed: "dance, twist and turn in a small space" Agility: "move laterally, go from forwards to backwards and make sudden turns of various degrees" Strenght and Balance stay upright while taking a pounding from all sites Shooting Does he have the whole arsenal? - wrist? - snap? - backhand? - deflections? - slap? Decision making? - accuracy? - what kind of shot to use? - anticipate the movements of Gs and Ds in a fraction of a second? - knowing when to shoot? - knowing when to stickhandle? - knowing when to pass? Eye-hand coordination? - releasing from bad puck positions? Release? - shooting without telegraphing? - shooting in not perfect balance? Pysical game - effective at the end of a game or just early impressions? How is the size/strength used? Effective bodychecking - does the hit move a player off the puck? - does a hitter's teammate receive the puck? - does he hit surprisingly? - did the hit cost a penalty? The Intimidation/Wearing Down factor - how hard is the hit? - did he hit a good player? Quiet Bodychecking - good timing in plugging gaps? - good sense of speed and angle? - leg strenght? In the corners/In front of the net - upper body strenght? - strenght on the skates? - leaning in with his chest? - grappling arms? Taking a hit - prepared for the hits? - can he shield the puck? - does his body remain upright? - effective despite absorbing the blow? - does he neutralize the hit or even use it to his advantage?
