Some updates on some playoff action for our junior agers.
London went up 3-0 in their series last night, and big man Tinordi was held of the scoresheet. Archambault got his second assist in two games against the heavily favoured Quebec Ramparts in a losing cause (10-2!!!!!). Patrick Roy's lads lead that series 2-0. My guess is his season has two games left!
7 other CHL prospects hit the ice tonight. All of their teams currently lead their series, except for Saskatoon. A really interesting story is Patrick Holland, who now has a 22 game points streak going into tonight's tilt. Sure helps having the WHL scoring leader on your line, but that is still darn impressive.
Overseas, Daniel Pribyl's season came to an end in the Czech U20 league playoffs, although he did his part to help his team stay alive with 2g and 1a in his final game. He ended up with 5g 2a and 7pts in his 4 U20 league playoff games. He also got time in the Czech top mens league and their second league (and playoffs) this season, as well as an injury shortened visit to Alberta for the World Juniors. He is one to keep an eye on for sure.

CHL playoff update.
Dietz and Saskatoon are done after getting swept by Medicine Hat (I have always been a huge fan of Tyler Buntz in net, he just cranks his game up in the playoffs...Oilers got a good pick and I really wanted the Habs to scoop him with one of their mid round picks that season). Archambault is also done, after losing out in four straight to the powerhouse Quebec Ramparts.
Saint John (Beaulieu), Tri City (Holland), London (Tinordi) and Shawinigan (Bournival, Ellis) all swept their first round series. Vancouver is in a dog fight tied at two with the Spokane Chiefs and their Hab look-alike jerseys. So far that series is a home ice affair, so that bodes well for Vancouver moving forward.
Totally non-Hab prospect related: my local Oil Kings also swept their opening round series against defending WHL champions Kootenay Ice and hopefully can keep this dream season alive. Bring on the second round!!

Spokane spanked the Giants last night 5-1. Gallagher with their only goal. Giants now on the brink as the Chiefs lead the series 3-2.

From another board.....from the end of February.
The Hockey News "Future Watch".....has our prospects rated at 28th. Only the Flames and Sharks are lower.
1. Nathan Beaulieu (33rd) 2. Louis Leblanc (47th) 3. Jarred Tinordi (50th) 4. Brendan Gallagher 5. Aaron Palushaj 6. Michael Bournival 7. Andreas Engqvist 8. Alexander Avtsin 9. Danny Kristo 10. Patrick Holland
*Blake Geoffrion is listed as Nashville's #4 prospect.
The main top 50 list is a result of rankings from a panel of NHL scouts. Each team's top 10 list comes from a member of the organization.....at least that's how it's been done in the past.

Brendan Gallagher's junior career came to a bit of an early end last night thanks to the Spokane Chiefs' fourth straight victory in their hard fought opening round WHL series. Those 4-5 series are always good ones, no matter what league you play in. Brendan had quite the banner year, representing his country at the World Juniors and coming home with a medal, being named team captain of the Giants during the year, getting his entry level contract, and setting the Giants all time team records for goals and points. Way to go little man with a huge heart!!
He could very well be off to Hamilton on an ATO to help keep their slim playoff hopes alive. They are 5 points out with 6 games to play. They are just wrapping up a one month long road trip, and all without any sign of reinforcements from the Habs.

While we may not have the best pool of prospects, ranking them 28th is like the usual pre season prediction of being out of the playoffs. IMO, they are significantly underestimated.

Those 4-5 series are always good ones, no matter what league you play in. I understand that once you got past Gallagher there wasn't much depth and that the Giants weren't going to go far anyway. Your perspective, NWT?

I would bet that out of our top 10, 5 or 6 will be in the NHL and some will be emerging as well above average players. Those guys have quite a different viewpoint from me. Naittinen is not on their list, nor Pribyl, but I'd have both ahead of Palushaj with respect to potential.

Second round of CHL playoffs started last night for our five kids. All ended up with a point. Saint John and London both won, while Shawinigan and Tri-City are both down a game after losing in OT.

Saint John win big tonight. Nathan with two helpers. They are up 2-0 in their series.
Shawinigan ties their series up with a big win. Ellis with a goal tonight.
Edit: Holland with an assist on the GWG as Tri-City ties up their series tonight.

Saw a highlight of Tinordi scoring the first London goal. He was a trailer on the play and picked the top corner. Nice goal and not expected from the big guy (by me).

He has a good wrister and decent mobility for such a big man. The top ranked team in the OHL does find itself in a bit of a hole right now down 2-1 in their series thanks to back to back 5-2 losses to Saginaw. Time to crank it up boys.

Both Saint John and Shawinigan won last night, to take 3-0 and 2-1 series leads respectively. All our prospects were held off the scoresheet...but they got the most important stat...a "W".
All the remaining Habs' CHL kids are in action tonight, as are my Oil Kings who play in Brandon riding a 18 game winning streak.

Tinordi with a big +4 night and assist on the empty netter as the Knights evened the series and regained home ice advantage with a 5-2 victory tonight. They go back to the comfy confines of the John Labatt Centre feeling much better than a game ago.
The Shawinigan lads (Ellis and Bournival) were held pointless as they lost 2-1 to Chicoutimi tonight. Series is all tied up at two apiece. They have their Memorial Cup berth in hand as hosts, but you don't want to flounder in the league playoffs. Time to get it back on track.
Beaulieu had no points, bu the Sea Dogs won and swept their second straight series. A worthy playoff start from the defending CHL champs.
My Oil Kings also swept their second straight series, getting their 19th straight victory in Brandon tonight. Guess I am not going to game five on Friday. They out scored the Wheaties 11-1 in the two games in their barn.
Tri City up late in the third, as they are trying to go up 2-1 in their series and regain home ice advantage against their WA state rivals from Spokane.
Edit: 2-1 final Tri City. Holland scoreless, but his team now leads 2-1 in the series.

Big wins for London and Shawinigan tonight to get the ever important game five and take a 3-2 lead. Tinordi was held pointless in a 2-1 OT win; Bournival had an assist and Ellis the dude had two helpers, was plus four and ended up the first star in a 7-3 victory.
Holland and Tri City up later. Will update.

London wrapped up their series with a 5-3 win last night. The big man had a goal and assist, including the game winner.
Tri City also won 5-3, to take a 3-2 series lead. Holland had a goal and two assists.

Holland was first star of the game as well, and has 2 goals and 8 assists in 8 games. Not bad for the playoffs. Tinordi comes up big in a big game. We've got some good prospects in the system, let's hope the new management team can develop them properly.

Well, on Tuesday night, the tandem of Ellis and Bournival saw their Q playoffs come to an end at the hands of Chicoutimi in seven games. They will get a second life though as Shawinigan hosts the Memorial Cup, but that will be a bit of a layoff for them now. Hopefully they can rest up any bumps and bruises and come back strong in the big national event.
Last night, in an equally close and hard fought series, Patrick Holland and the Amerks emerged victorious with a 3-2 win and a 4-3 series win against Spokane (the team that upset Vancouver the last round). Holland is off to the final four in the WHL against a very tough Portland team, who also needed seven to get past Kamloops. A very quick turnaround for both teams as that series starts tomorrow night, with Tri City having home ice advantage.
Tinordi and the Knights host the Kitchener Rangers as their OHL semi final opens tonight in the John Labatt barn.

Monahan and Ceci do look like the real deal.

Was talking with a friend on a local sidewalk yesterday and a lady came by who knew him, so she joined our conversation. This lady's son plays a minor role on the Tri City Americans. Patrick Holland's name came up and she said her son describes him as an unusual kid. He's not overly social and loves his video games. He was also described as very efficient on the ice. He doesn't look like he's doing much, but ends up with points. So he seems to be an odd duck, not that there's anything wrong with that. Just thought it was an interesting observation worth sharing.
