Portland wins both games on the road by an identical 5-4 OT score, to take a very impressive 2-0 lead home to Oregon. Holland had a goal and an assist and was the game's third star in a losing cause. He has brought his A game for this series, but Portland is such a star studded lineup.
London won a crazy game yesterday, a game that was televised on Sportsnet for those that were lucky enough to watch it. The Knights had a 2-1 lead in the second, just to watch Kitchener score three in a row including two shorties on the same penalty. London battled back and then scored the game's next four goals, including the game winner with just under a minute to play. Tinordi had an assist on that goal, as he blasted a hard shot just wide of the net that bounced back off the boards to his D partner, Harrington, who blasted home the winner. They popped an empty netter shortly thereafter to seal the game 6-4. Due to the short distance between Kitchener and London, this series is using the alternating home game format, so the venue switches up each game.
Beaulieu and his Sea Dogs keep their roll going, as they are now up 2-0 in their league semi final series. They still have not lost yet in the playoffs (very similar story here for my Oil Kings who won their 21st straight yesterday against Moose Jaw).
Saint John and London both see action next on Tuesday night. Tri City plays next on Wednesday.

www.habseyesontheprize.com/Kristo is returning for his final year of college. I find this troubling because he can become a free agent after he finishes school. Looks like tehre is a real potential to lose a 2nd rounder here.

www.habseyesontheprize.com/Kristo is returning for his final year of college. I find this troubling because he can become a free agent after he finishes school. Looks like tehre is a real potential to lose a 2nd rounder here. This is problematic right now, but that loophole actually closes quite soon. He can opt out of his final year of school by June 1st of this year, and become a free agent on July 1st. If he returns to his fourth year of NCAA this fall (which he wants to do), his rights are still retained by the Habs until August 15, 2013. This is because he played his first year of hockey after being drafted in the USHL. A funny little loophole in the current CBA. He wants to finish his degree and try for a national championship at UND. Although playing in the AHL is likely better for his development, this won't be a total lost year for him. The bigger problem is it is not like the Habs are stacked with offensive prospects, so I would rather this kid was developing his trade in the AHL rather than the NCAA next season.

Saint John finally lost a playoff game, in OT last night, against Chicoutimi. Nathan did score a goal in the losing cause. That means my Oil Kings are the only unbeaten team in the playoffs right now, as they won their 11th straight playoff game (and 22nd straight game) last night in a very entertaining 3-2 game in Moose Jaw. It was fun to watch.
London went up 3-0 is their series with the Rangers. The Big Man had an assist in the game. He is already +10 in the playoffs. Draft eligible Finnish defender Olli Maata had two goals for the Knights.
London and Tri City are back on tonight. London is in the driver's seat, while Tri City will have to find a way to win in the Rose Garden in Portland down 2-0 in the series.

Another one bites the dust.
Patrick Holland's WHL career is over. Tri City lost in four straight to the star-studded Portland Winterhawks who now move on the WHL finals against the winner of the Edmonton-Moose Jaw series. Patrick still managed at least a point in every game, and seven points in that tough four game series; however, it is now a transitional summer as he prepares for his pro debut in the fall and all the Habs prospect and rookie camps that will be upon him between now and opening night in Hamilton.

Just great. The Mooseheads are on tv against Rimouski and I tuned in to see Nathan Mackinnon and he's not playing. What gives?

It was a great series, as Moose Jaw threw everything they had at the Oil Kings. Edmonton-Portland should be end to end excitement. Beaulieu and Saint John can book their spot in the Q finals tonight.

Fence sitting, hey? You did ask about Moose Jaw As for Edm-Portland, I give the edge to the Oil Kings as I think Brossoit can steal a few. He has been outstanding. The Oil Kings have very few star names, unlike the Hawks, but they are an awesome team right now. Just picked up my games 1 and 2 tics today. Shaw TV has the whole series.

Watched Beaulieu and the Sea Dogs punch their ticket to the Finals (Go Halifax!!!) AN all Maritime final would be cool! The game went to OT and Saint John went down to playing 4 D. I got a preview of why Nate is so risk reward. He almost won the game on two great chances on the same shift. Joining the rush to create a 3 on 2 and a heavy shot that the goalie had trouble with and a point shot that almost had eyes. Next shift a brutal pinch caused a 2 on 1 that required a huge save from Mathieu Corbeil to keep the Dogs alive. I've watch the kid since he was 14 and played for the local Midget AAA team.....Top End talent but to call him a Riverboat Gambler would be very conservative

Hab prospect Nathan Beaulieu will be on TV tonight (Sportsnet CHL Friday night hockey).
Last night, London lost game one to Niagara in the OHL finals 3-2 in double OT.
Saint John starts its defense of its Q title tonight against upstart Rimouski. The game will be shown live on Sportsnet, so another chance to get to see Beaulieu and company in action on national TV.
The biggest game of the night involves no Habs prospects (yet?) as the Oil Kings and Winterhawks take to the ice for the second consecutive night in the Dub final. Oil Kings edged the visitors from Oregon 3-2 last night in front of moi, Mrs NWT and 7500 others. Lots of scouts at this series too, as Derek Pouliot and Griffin Reinhart are getting loads of looks. Henrik Samuelsson is having a great playoffs. Hey TT, you have two second round picks!!

London over Niagara 5-3, and Jarred Tinordi over Doug Hamilton, 1 goal and +3 to 1 assist and -1. Tinordi gets a key goal late in the first to narrow the score to 2-1 Niagara. www.ontariohockeyleague.com/schedule/show/game/61689St John takes a 2-0 lead on Rimouski with a 3-2 win. Huburdeau is now able to come back from his suspension, so any hopes Rimouski has for a comeback are reduced. Beaulieu was -1 in the game. theqmjhl.ca/schedule/show/game/61700

Saint John should definitely get stronger with Huberdeau back in the lineup. That is one scary lineup against which to play. It was nice to see that our very own Nate the Skate got the wear the "C" in the first game in Huberdeau's absence.

London 3-2 over the Ice Pooches. The box score indicates a tie between Tinordi and D Hamilton. O-fer and -1 for both.

London 3-2 over the Ice Pooches. The box score indicates a tie between Tinordi and D Hamilton. O-fer and -1 for both. Interestingly enough, they are also the top two guys in the OHL playoffs with plus/minus (Hamilton +15 and Tinordi +14). This is not surprising as Tinordi was tied for tops in the regular season in the OHL, and Hamilton was in third. The most important fact is that now London is up 2-1 in the series. Two more wins and they get to go to the big show. The Q final now switches to Rimouski, with games 3 and 4 being held on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Saint John should be even stronger with Huberdeau back from his short suspension. Two more wins for them too and it is off to Shawinigan.

I'd really like London to win, not only because we'd see more of Tinordi, but it keeps Hamilton from potentially becoming a winner. That anti-Bruins sentiment runs deep in me.

That reality is one step closer. Tinordi and the Knights won 4-1 last night to take a 3-1 lead. Watch the potential clinching game on Sportsnet tomorrow night!! Nate the Skate and his stacked team of Sea Doggies won 6-4 and take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Q final. The Sea Dogs could clinch as early as tonight. We are very close to having four Habs prospects in the Memorial Cup this year. Keep it going lads!!

The Big Man and the Knights are off to the Memorial Cup!
That officially gives us four prospects in the tourney: Ellis, Bournival, Beaulieu and Tinordi.
One team left to determine, but the Oil Kings could win the series in game six tonight in Portland. It has been an awesome series. I have tickets for game seven tomorrow night but would be quite glad not to have to use them!!

Go Saint John Go. Should be fun to watch. Saint John should definitely be the favourite going into the tourney. They were the #1 ranked team in the CHL at the start of the playoffs, and then posted an incredible 16-1 run through those playoffs. They are the defending champions and seem to be as healthy as any team right now. That being said, I don't think this is as much of a slam-dunk for the Sea Dogs as you may read on other sites. The other teams will be tough, and anything can happen in a short round robin tournament like this. It should be good hockey, as four of the top five teams in the final CHL top ten rankings did advance: Saint John (#1), London (#3), Edmonton (#4) and Shawinigan (#5). Only Patrick Holland and the Tri-City Americans (#2) did not make it, but I rather like the team that is representing their league.
