For the record, Button's list is compiled not only from his own views but from dealings/discussions with other scouts. It's not just about where they think people will go, but an evaluation of drafting teams' stock and what their weaknesses are. I know Craig's been given a bad rap over the years, but I don't know how justified it is. He was the GM in Calgary from 2000-2003. He put together much of the roster that would get to the finals in 2004. He also had a significant role in the AHL championship in 2001. I think some guys just get painted with a brush, or have enough Saperlipopette that's thrown at them that sticks, and the establishment just writes them off. I think it could be fairly argued that there are far worse evaluators of talent out there, and that he certainly couldn't do a worse job than Snow in NYI. Mostly I criticize him because I don't agree with him .

A few guys that "might" be available and on our radar screen at 26 tonight (according to me lol):
Ivan Barbashev, C, Moncton (QMJHL), 6'1" 190lbs - The "Russian factor" may see him slip, and he could very well be available at 26. Not your everyday Russian style guy as he plays a very North American game. Good speed, skill and hockey IQ and does not scare away from the physical play.
Jack Dougherty, RD, USNTDP (USHL), 6'1" 185lbs - This is a very weak draft for defenders, so they may have a premium and go higher than projected. Dougherty is a physical solid defender, although he could get a bit quicker and his offense is likely limited at the next level. A leader on the US team.
Adrian Kempe, C, Modo (SHL), 6'2", 190lbs - Kempe has performed reasonably well given his ice time in the mens league. He sounds a lot like this year's Jacob DLR to be honest. Big, fast, responsible, very coachable, but may have limited offensive upside. He is very strong on the puck and a powerful skater.
Travis Sanheim, LD, Calgary (WHL), 6'3", 190lbs - The big riser this draft, he is now seen as one of the best defenders in this draft due to his big rise. A solid all round defender.

He's been a target of a lot of 'internet hate' over the years, and for a while I sort of accepted it as warranted. Dig a little deeper, and I think a lot of it is unwarranted. Why has he been a tv analyst for much of the last ten years? Maybe he likes it. Maybe he likes being able to spend more time with family than he would running a club. You NEVER hear about his name coming up in rumours about interviews etc (like Pierre McGuire). While Pierre may be chomping at the bit to get back on the 'inside', I get the feeling Button enjoys where he is and what he does.

Some possible guys with our third round pick at 87th:
Connor Chatham, RW, Plymouth (OHL), 6'2" 225lbs - Good skater, decent puck skills, aggressive forechecker and physical.
Aaron Irving, RD, Edmonton (WHL), 6'1", 190lbs - A tough two way guy who is physical and also a contributor on the PP point.
Kaapo Kahkonen, G, Blues U20 (Finland), 6'2", 200lbs - Good size and mobility, and we need some more goalies in the pipeline. Was a bit inconsistent at the U18s so could slip and be available for us in the third.

Being in Halifax, I've only seen Barbashev. He's talented for sure. Button has Tampa picking Sanheim at 19. We'll see. He's got Kempe at 23, could slip.

Fourth round pick, 117th:
Alexis Pepin, LW, Gatineau (QMJHL), 6'2", 230lbs - A big power forward with some offensive upside. Plays a very tough, physical game.
Oskar Lindblom, LW/RW, Brynas J20 (Sweden), 6'2", 190lbs - A north south power forward style player who plays a strong game. Good hockey IQ and solid defensively.
Christian Dvorak, LW, London (OHL), 6'0", 175 lbs - A fast, skilled offensive forward. Had an ACL injury so likely didn't get too much viewing.

Fifth round 125th (NYI):
Julio Billia, G, Chicoutimi (QMJHL), 5'11", 165lbs - A very aggressive and agile goaltender, from the Q, and we could use another goalie this draft.
Ryan Hitchcock, LW, USNTDP (USHL), 5'9", 175 - A perfect spot in which to pick an undersized, but fast and very skilled forward. We have done it before.
Stefan Leblanc, LD, Mississauga (OHL), 6'0", 180lbs - A puck moving defender with good upside. Why not?

Fifth round 147th:
Jaedon Descheneau, RW, Kootenay (WHL), 5'9", 185lbs - a skilled undersized guy who is fast and always moving. Played on the Ice top line with some guy named Reinhart and also Tim Bozon at times before his illness.
Brandon Montour, RD, Waterloo (USHL), 6'0", 170lbs - He has passed through two drafts, but had a major breakout season this year. An offensive defender.
Daniel Walcott, LD, Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL), 5'11", 175lbs - An aggressive shut down defender with known leadership qualities.

Top three in this draft are ahead of the rest, but wouldn't be in the top 6 last year. In addition we pick late at 26. If a player is big and fast and skilled he will be gone by 26. This is the year for a long term swing for the fences project and if he craps out, no big loss. Look to Europe for skating and potential.

Sixth round 177th (this gets harder deeper into the draft!!):
Lucas Wallmark, RW/C, Lulea (SHL), 6'0", 175lbs - I had him on my list last year. Had a good WJC and is a very reliable two way centre. Plays in the mens league.
Christiano Digiacinto, LW, Windsor (OHL), 5'11", 185lbs - A good skater, who is competitive and has a mean streak. Plays hard in the dirty places.
Karson Kuhlman, RW, Dubuque (USHL), 5'10" 170lbs - a speedy talented two way winger with no quit in his game.

Seventh round 207th (the last of my wild a$$ guesses!!):
Sebastian Moberg, LD, Blues U20 (Finland), 5'11", 165lbs - A strong skating, solid two way defender with good hockey sense. Heck, it is the 7th round!!
Anthony Angello, C, Omaha (USHL), 6'4", 195lbs - A solid two way shutdown centre with good hockey sense.
Ryan Mantha, D, Indiana (USHL), 6'5", 225lbs - A big, mobile defender who could be more physical for his huge size.

If Kane and Wheeler are there in Winnipeg when Ehlers makes it, they're going to be getting a lot of scoring chances, and they'll be one of the faster lines in the league.

Maybe Neal's attitude had an impact. Ehlers giving one of the better post pick interviews (though many of them are well spoken these days). He's gonna be a good one.
