Last season he would have been too gassed to jump off the bench. Big Mac v2.0 is pretty awesome.

Nikita had a couple of helpers in a 3-2 shoot out win over Kamloops last night. It took 15 shooters to finish the shoot out too, and only three goals scored in those 30 attempts. Advantage goalies on that one!!
Mark MacMillan is back from injury, and had a goal and an assist last night. He was tearing it up at North Dakota before his injury.

Nice job by the Q prospects tonight against the Russians.
Fucale with 40 saves in a 3-1 win. Audette with a goal and an apple, the goal being the GWG.

Scherbak injured tonight. Story from Habs eye on the Prize.
Thanks to Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald, we have a bit of an update on Canadiens prospect Nikita Scherback, who was stretchered off the ice tonight in a game between the Everett Silvertips and Seattle Thunderbirds.
Scherbak was going for a loose puck and leaned forward when he was hit awkwardly by a player for the Thunderbirds, and went down in a heap.
Scherbak was stretchered off with his neck in a brace and taken to hospital, but since then it has been reported that his head and neck have passed initial tests, so we can relax and exhale a little bit, Scherbak will be okay.
You have to give credit to Seattle and Everett's medical staffs, who were on the ball and cautious to make sure no possible further injury could be suffered.

A pretty good week for a few of our prospects. Brett Lernout had his first WHL hat trick on November 22nd. I had to post these highlights as they require you to use your imagination on all three goals. Lernout is #4 on the white team. www.youtube.com/watch?v=24iii3FCDCQTim Bozon is liking having Reinhart back as a linemate, as he had two three point games last week. Good to see him getting his timing and some of his strength back. He is #20 in blue. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzDaaSvJ9T0

Just a quick reminder that Sportsnet One and Ontario will be showing the Erie-London game tonight at 7:30 ET, so a chance to catch the new and improved Mike McCarron on TV.

Sunday night saw a battle between two WHL prospects: Bozon and Scherbak. It was Nikita's first game back from that deep bruise that had him stretchered off a few games ago. Kootenay won 4-3 in OT but both prospects had a goal and an assist in the game. Here is Scherbak's goal. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XAerafRL2g

WJC update.
Russia did not select Scherbak to their preliminary roster. He didn't make an impact in the two Subway Super Series games.
Fucale is one of two goalies selected for Canada, so either he or Comrie will be the main starter.
Big Mac is one of 17 forwards invited to the U.S. camp. Hard to ignore his vastly improved play this season.

WJC update. Russia did not select Scherbak to their preliminary roster. He didn't make an impact in the two Subway Super Series games. In a way, I'm glad. I'd be hoping for an 8-7 win by Canada over Russia, with Scherbak getting 7 goals and Comrie in goal for Canada. Now, there's no angst at all....8-0 instead. I've still got the Canada USA emotional angst though. That one will have to be 8-7.

Charles has been a favourite of mine since the 2013 WJC. Even though he got injured, you could tell he was a difference maker. We could have really used him. I may be mixing up the 13 and 14 tournaments. Did he play at all in 2013 or was he injured before it started?

I don't think we was healthy last year, though. His back (I think) was bothering him, so while he played, it wasn't at 100%.

Impressive start to his pro career for Hudon, with not much buzz to go along with it. When was the last time we had a guy leading the Ahl in scoring at this time of the year? And as a rookie? Ever?
It makes it more impressive when you consider the coaching down there. From all accounts SL seems to be a bit of a hardass. Probably wouldn't play CH (nice initials) if he was a floating goal suck type.

Artturi Lehkonen named to Team Finland for the WJC and also named its team captain.
Jacob DLR has been named to Team Sweden (assuming Montreal/Hamilton let him go and play) and he is expected to be named captain as well.
Martin Reway is playing at a point per game pace in the Czech Republic and is expected to be a big part of the offense for Team Slovakia.

Marc Bergevin, by way of the Dogs' twitter feed, has confirmed that Jacob DLR will be loaned to Team Sweden for the WJC. Great news for the young lad, as Sweden will be gunning for a big result this year after their heartbreaking loss to rivals Finland in last year's finals.
Even better news is that with the games in Montreal and TO this year, most games should all be prime time for TV viewing, so nobody will have to get up in the middle of the night to watch a prospect play.

A couple of NCAA prospects on TV tonight. MacMillan (North Dakota) is up against Didier (Denver) tonight. Game time is 9:30 ET on TSN2 and features two prospects playing their final college season and fighting for contracts. This would be a good one for Marty Lapointe to be at to check them out head to head. MacMillan's offensive skills against Didier's big, physical defensive first play.
Edit: MacM kicked out of the game for a hit from behind about 6 mins into the game. Grrr.
Edit2: A night of unexpected for both prospects. Josiah Didier opens the scoring late in the first with his first of the season, and only second of his four year NCAA career. Great wrist shot for the big dude.

Cheers.

Time for an updated Top Three Prospects list heading into the holidays:
1. Charles Hudon, LW/C, Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) The 20 year old fifth rounder is off to one heck of a rookie pro season, as Charles currently sits atop the AHL scoring lead (with a four point lead as of today). Hudon has 9g 21a 30pts in 27 games played. It is not often you see a player fresh out of juniors who is able to replicate his junior offensive production in the AHL. Hudon is not overly big, but more than makes up for his size with a lot of hockey IQ and effort. He has been plagued with some injuries in the past, so staying healthy is the key for him going forward.
2. Mike McCarron, C/RW, London Knights (OHL) A year ago the "bust" title was out in full bloom, but what a difference a year makes. Big Mike has 17g 16a and 33 pts in 23gp. By comparison, Mike only managed 14 goals and 34 points in his rookie OHL season last year. After being passed up last season for the US WJC team, and not getting a long look at previous camps, he has been invited to the final camp that starts today in Boston. His offensive improvement and his size make him a very attractive option at forward for the USA. He cites his much better offseason conditioning as the biggest factor in his turnaround, but I would also note that his increased maturity and commitment to all facets of the game have not hurt one bit. I don't think the Hunters will slap an "A" on your jersey if you don't deserve it.
3. Martin Reway, LW, Sparta Praha (Extraliga - Czech Republic) The young Slovakian bolted from the Q to play pro hockey in the Czech Republic and he has made a very successful transition so far. In 23 Extraliga games, Reway has 21 points and in 8 Champions Hockey League games, he has 8 points. He will be a key part to the Slovakian world junior team this year. It will be interesting to see how long he stays over in Europe, although so far it seems to be a very good move for him development wise.
Honourable Mention: Nikita Scherbak, RW, Everett Silvertips (WHL) The 18 year old Moscow native has been thriving in his new home of Everett after an early season trade from Saskatoon who needed to shed one import player. Everett is a top 10 ranked CHL team, which is a far cry from the cellar dwelling Blades that he played for last year. The dynamic young forward is enjoying a very productive season, with 14g 24a and 38pts in 25 games. The downside to his season is being passed over for the Russian world junior team, as I am sure that he is capable of much more than what he showed the Russian brass in his two Canada-Russia Super Series games in November. Nikita does turn 19 before the champagne flows this New Year's Eve, so he is eligible to play in the AHL next season.
