Friedman tweeting Petry to MTL for a 2nd & a 5th.
5th could go as high as a 3rd if Habs win 2 rounds.

Petry is instantly a top 4 for us. He's better than Gonchar, Emelin and Gilbert at this point in his carreer.

Petry's really going to alleviate our defensive zone pressure. One site describes him as a smooth-skating puck-mover.
6'3" and almost 200 pounds. Most welcome.

The biggest thing for me in this deal is that Bergevin didn`t touch the roster to bring him in ... that`s the kind of message the dressing room needs to hear at this time of year ... Cheers.

Right, Dis!
Although, if Bergevin isn't done, that could change…

As per a segment on Marinaro's show.
Sergio Momesso, who travels with the team, said Bergevin spoke with Eller at the airport, patted him on the back….and Eller walked away smiling.
So it would seem that Eller is staying put.
If we are to get a Top 6 forward, we're looking at Tinordi for starters, most likely.

Then again, Brian Wilde is on now saying that Eller smiles a lot….even when hearing bad news/criticism…so he wouldn't read anything into that exchange.
Wilde also mentioned a 1-for-4 deal either for Eberle or Kessel.
He didn't say who/what would comprise the 4 Habs going the other way.

Brian Flynn for a 5th rounder! 6'1" RW (on the Sabres)….but can play centre and LW. More grit for up front. Depth.
A 5th rounder in 2016.
For a roster player.
Bergevin is something else…..

Bad trade....that's gives us about 10 defensmen Adding defensive depth for the playoffs is not a bad move IMO. This is a good draft...two picks taken away from Timmins, no doubt he would have hit on one of them. Petry slight upgrade, if that, on what we already had

Flynn isn't exactly big, and he isn't exactly a scorer. Does he become the 13th forward?
Pacioretty-DD-Gallagher PAP?-Plekanec-Galchenyuk DLR-Eller-Weise Prust-Malhotra-DSP Flynn

Sabres' broadcaster speaking with Marinaro re: Flynn.
Pretty good player. Late bloomer. Undrafted. University of Maine.
Good 3rd or 4th liner. He can play centre or wing.
He's kind of thin. Not real physical…not his style.
He does the little things well….hard worker. Great attitude. Very good penalty killer.
Hustle and depth. Only $650,000 salary. RFA.

]Perfect for a deep run in the playoffs!! Yep. You can never have enough players for a long playoff run. Nice depth pickup. Or it could mean Bournival is now expendable.

If they move him, they have to replace him with a quality face off guy. Manny leads the league this year at nearly 60%. It's had a huge trickle down effect.

Again, using those faulty +/- stats, Flynn is -3 in 54 games (a decent sample size), which is amongst the best if not the best, on a really bad Sabres team. Compared to his peer group on Buffalo, he must be a responsible player. Off our radar, for sure.

I'm going to assume that the price to get that top 6 forward is too high, and the plan is to use Eller on the wing with Plekanec and Galchenyuk. FYI, that line is playing extremely well of late. ...
So that gives us alot of depth on the bottom two lines now.
Prust, Weise, Flynn, Malholtra, DLR, DSP, Bournival, PAP ..... Thomas, Andrighetto, Dumont ...
Depth is good, just hope some of them like pine.
And while the second line is doing well as of late, I'd sure feel more comfortable with someone other than Eller on the wing, I like Eller as the third line center. But can our depth, be used to get that player? Somehow I dont think it can, not unless we are going to part with our first rounder, a defenseman named Tinordi, Fucale, and a decent roster player.
I'd be ok with standing pat now.
