The timing isn't the best, but there's potential both with McCarron (slight - more likely to be a 3rd liner) and Scherbak. Scherbak has the skills to be that first or second line right winger. Trouble is it will take him 3 years to get to that point and that's a bit late for my liking. But who knows, maybe the progress will happen more quickly.

I'm going to assume that the price to get that top 6 forward is too high, and the plan is to use Eller on the wing with Plekanec and Galchenyuk. FYI, that line is playing extremely well of late. ... So that gives us alot of depth on the bottom two lines now. Prust, Weise, Flynn, Malholtra, DLR, DSP, Bournival, PAP ..... Thomas, Andrighetto, Dumont ... Depth is good, just hope some of them like pine. And while the second line is doing well as of late, I'd sure feel more comfortable with someone other than Eller on the wing, I like Eller as the third line center. But can our depth, be used to get that player? Somehow I dont think it can, not unless we are going to part with our first rounder, a defenseman named Tinordi, Fucale, and a decent roster player. I'd be ok with standing pat now. Yeah, price must been too high to get a scorer. NoNE moved despite a few available ie. Kessel, ROR. Looks like Habs decided to stand pat, deeper up the defense, and improve bottom 6 forwards. Rely on Price, deeper defense and play more defensive system for playoffs.

Two separate articles on thefourthperiod.com, not the greatest resource, but these are both posts linking articles, cite two interesting 'post deadline' stories involving Habs. One said that there was a potential deal in place involving Eller right up to an hour before the deadline but it couldn't be finalized. The other said that Montreal had keen interest in the Blue Jacket's Atkinson. Jarmo was able to sign him long term just before the deadline, and it was a fair assumption that if he couldn't Cam would likely have been dealt. Whether the deal revolved around Eller and Atkinson isn't suggested entirely, but Jarmo drafted Eller.

Something they may try again this summer. I not sold they were trying to move Eller,as hard as was reported anyway.

The other said that Montreal had keen interest in the Blue Jacket's Atkinson. Bergevin was going after a 5'8" forward ... hope that was just a rumour with no substance ... Cheers.

I think tfp did mention Anisimov in the Eller link. Anisimov is one of 'those' Russians. Lots of talent, but just not quite put it all together. Never more than 44 points. Never more than 22 goals. Both sets of numbers are better than Eller mind you.
