... Patrick Roy Leads the Avalanche into the Playoffs for the second time in three years ...
That's a question, isn't it? Will Roy be able to lead the Avs....etc. It's looking bleak. Minny is 5 pts. up on Colorado for the final wildcard. 3 games left. @ Winnipeg, then home to San Jose and Calgary. The Avs face 4 playoff-bound teams, and they have to win out to hit 90. Home to St. Louis, @ Nashville, @ Dallas, home to Anaheim. Pretty sure the Wild's magic number is 4 pts. right now.

Colorado is done. Don't think much of Roy's coaching.
Much more interesting is that Boston's down 4-0 to Chicago. That will keep the Bruins one point behind a playoff spot with only 3 games to go. Julian's career in Boston may be over. Fingers crossed.
Make that 5-0.

6-0...still in the second period.
Kane with a hat-trick.
Hossa still sitting at 499.
Bruins score twice in the last 15 seconds...to make the third a little more interesting.

The Pens do Detroit and Boston a big favour by slamming the Flyers 6-2.
EDIT:
Winnipeg beats the Wild...but Colorado also loses.
Down to the wire.
The Boston-Detroit game on Thursday might just determine the outcome for both teams.

Julien survived last year but won't survive this year, especially because their problems now are a result of a late season swoon.

Detroit can determine their own fate this week….but it's tough. At home to Philly on Wednesday. Then in Boston on Thursday. Finishing @ the Rangers on Saturday. Philly has 4 games left in the final 5 days: @ Detroit; home to Toronto (Wed/Thurs). Then home to Pittsburgh; @ Islanders (Sat/Sun). Boston finishes with 3 home games, with a day's rest between Carolina and Boston (Tues/Thurs)….then the Sens on Saturday. I want all 3 to miss the playoffs. I'll "root" for Philly, I guess…..seeing as Detroit's "25 straight years of playoffs" is over-hyped….and it's always nice to see Boston gone.

Roy calls out Duchene for 30th goal celebration. He also calls out his leadership core. I guess being coach and VP of Hockey Ops produces an UNTOUCHABLE mindset. The Colorado Avalanche were getting crushed Sunday in a game they ended up losing 5-1, their playoff chances were slipping away, but Matt Duchene looked pretty thrilled to get his 30th goal. And that didn't make coach Patrick Roy too happy.
"The thing I have a hard time is the reaction of Dutchy after he scores. It's a 4-0 goal ... big cheer. Are you kidding me? What is that?" Roy said. "I mean, it's not the [reaction] we want from our guys, not at all."
Duchene tipped in a shot by Mikkel Boedker with 4:14 remaining to avoid a shutout. But it was way too little too late. The Avs are five points behind the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference with only three games to play.
After the game, Duchene said all the right things.
"If you're not in playoffs, [scoring 30 goals] doesn't really mean as much as you want it to mean. No one remembers that. And no one cares," the 25-year-old said.
Roy still questioned the leadership of his team, however.
"We have some good leadership, but not enough from our core. Our core hasn't proved that they have the leadership to bring this team to another level. Eventually we have to admit it. I love these guys. I think [captain Gabriel Landeskog] is pretty much alone in that. I think [Eric Johnson] is trying. We need more from these guys," Roy said.
"Our core players are having a hard time carrying this team. That's the bottom line."

I've not seen the 'celebration', but saw comments on HF that said Duchene's celebration was pretty subdued. Nothing for Roy to get worked up over.

I've not seen the 'celebration', but saw comments on HF that said Duchene's celebration was pretty subdued. Nothing for Roy to get worked up over. I saw it. Down 4-0, it was probably more 'ecstatic' than it should have been. I can understand Duchene being pleased personally at hitting that difficult 30 goal level, but when your team is getting pretty well eliminated from the playoffs, he should have been smarter about it. It does seem like he put personal interests ahead of team interests, but one also has to temper the criticism because we don't know what the climate is like on the Avalanche. If Roy isn't respected by the team (and like MT, he doesn't seem to contribute much to team wins. The year Roy won Coach of the Year, didn't Varlamov have an outstanding season?). So maybe the atmosphere in the Colorado dressing room isn't the best. Duchene was rumoured to be on the block earlier in the year....so more mysteries that need clearing up.

I heard one pundit on TSN690 yesterday saying that he was speaking with a Colorado media member who made the following comments...
Win or lose, when Duchene scores he's in a good mood for post-game interviews.
But if he doesn't score, even in a win, he has a tendency to be sullen. It's a noticeable pattern of behaviour….not too popular in the room.
Sounds as if it might be all about him….and maybe Roy finally decided it was time to say something.
Calling out his core is another story….

I'd love to see this as well, but I think either Boston or Detroit has to make it since I believe the top 3 teams in each division are in the playoffs along with two wild card teams. If that's the case, either Detroit or Boston will be third in the Atlantic regardless of what happens the rest of the season. Also, given the current standings two of those three teams are guaranteed a spot. Either Philly or the 4th place team from the Atlantic will be a wild card team. I'm rooting for the B's........to lose out!

Trying to find a stream for the Flyers @ Wings. Best outcome for max damage to Boston's chances is Detroit winning in OT or SO. Seems doable in such an important game.... Found a good stream here: Flyers-WingsHope it works for anyone interested.... EDIT: Red Wings up 2-0 after a shortie early in the second.

Wings get it done, 3-0. Howard with a strong game…Mason was solid, too.
Detroit in Boston tomorrow…..and can clinch 3rd with 2 pts.
Flyers have 3 games left. Boston 2.

Philly needs a couple of wins, badly. Detroit coming through at a key time. We are so close to Boston missing the playoffs and Jacobs needing a sacrificial Julien.

Philly plays T.O. tonight in Philadelphia - must win for them if they hope to make the playoffs, given who they're playing and the fact their last two games won't be easy - Pens on Saturday and Islanders on Sunday. B's play Detroit tonight and Ottawa on Saturday. That said, if the Flyers win tonight and Detroit beats Boston in regulation it's pretty much all over for the B's. The Flyers would only need 1 point in their last two games to guarantee the wild card spot (assuming Boston beats Ottawa Saturday). Think I'll watch the Detroit game tonight and cheer long and hard for the Wings.

Both the Pens and the Isles have clinched playoff spots, so they may be resting some players, or they might simply be enjoying life too much before the playoffs. They might not, therefore, be at their best against Philly. I hope that's the case, like you. I want Julien to be fired. I want Bergevin to have a clear choice so we can see whether he really wants us to be the best organization we can, or second class citizens. When Quenneville became available, Chicago wasted no time firing Denis Savard. That's the situation I want Berg to be in. Let's see what he's made of.

Flyers tie it with :57 seconds left vs. the Leafs to get a valuable point.
BS call for a Flyers' trip in OT....
Ouch...second point goes to Toronto....

Yotes blow 2-0 lead and lose to the Preds in OT. Arizona is two points back of the Habs, but would need to beat SJ and have Habs lose to TB to catch them. They would win the ROW tie breaker. Pretty unlikely though.
Buffalo plays its game in hand tomorrow night. They are one point back.

How can they determine offsides on video review when they don't have cameras right on the bluelines?
Talk about incompetence.
Bruins score on what could have been an offside....but the angle of the camera can't determine certainty.
Ruled a goal on the ice....so it's a goal.
1-0 Boston vs. Ottawa.

Sens with 4 goals so far in the second period.
4-1 Ottawa.
Halfway through the second.
Timeout....and it wasn't Julien doing the talking, it was Bergeron...very emotional.
Detroit New York 1-1.
