1-0 Wings over Leafs in the 2nd. Zetterberg with his 300th - another very weak goal allowed by Reimer.
I know I'm late with this but my favorite moment of the week was Dallas beating Boston. Seguin had a hat trick proving to Cam Neely and Boston fans what an absolutely stupid trade that was.

What's going on with Tampa? They're a .500 team right now: 7-7-2. Stanley Cup Final hangover? It's a new season, guys.

What's going on with Tampa? They're a .500 team right now: 7-7-2. Stanley Cup Final hangover? It's a new season, guys. Haven't caught any of their games yet. 7-7-2, 38 goals for, 38 against. 7th in the East. Middle of the road offense. Middle of the road defense. Better record on the road. Hedman is actually leading the team in scoring with 11 points in 15 games. The kid line that drove the offense last year is off to a slow start. All three are on pace for about 41 points atm. That would appear to be the biggest issue.

What's going on with Tampa? They're a .500 team right now: Frankly Scarlett..... Glad to see them suffering, though it is very puzzling. They're scoring enough, but they're really porous in the defensive end. Are teams catching on to their systems?

Leafs get tied with less than a second left and lose in the SO to Washington. Ovechkin ties Federov for most goals by a Russian born player at 483.

Schadenfreude for sure, but don't care.

A team looking to round out a 4th line with a vet for peanuts might take a gamble.

Since beating the Habs in a SO the Pens have lost two to Columbus & NJ by a total of 6-1. Crosby with no points in those games. All that offensive talent on the team and no goals.

I know the Oilers have lost McDavid for a while….but they're now tied for last in the league again! 1-4-0 since his injury, and that was an OT win. That's just flat-out embarrassing! After all those Top Picks, they needed an 18-year-old to get them looking somewhat like a team. And when he's gone….right back to futility.
Can you imagine if they end up with another Top 3 pick this year….let alone the #1 again?
There's building through the draft….then there's Edmonton who can't do it on a perennial silver platter….

WRT the Oilers, I think you have to give the new group some time. They need to weed through what's there. If I could pluck anyone from that group it would be Hall (not including McDavid of course). Hall's got 20 points and is a plus player this year. Size, speed, skill, tenacity, and a willingness to go through walls to make plays. I know he's not the popular choice, with likes of Nail, Eberle, RNH, etc, but he's the one I'd want the most. Be great on our lw.

If you want a chuckle have a look at the Rangers 2nd goal. Stepan scores on him with a wrister from centre ice. True to form for this guy. The Leafs should just ride Reimer until he tires out.

Hall, RNH, Yakupov, and Eberle have all been there long enough to have gelled. Should have happened last year…making this year the one where they actually make some headway, regardless of McDavid's presence. For them to go right back into the tank without him is weak, IMO.
Their management has simply been unable to build/strategize around them. They've always relied on the draft to give them hope, one top pick at a time.

I've just read that Bernier also was responsible for the winner with just under a minute to play. A long (unnecessary) rebound off a soft shot. Here are the U.S. and Canadian feeds of the 2-1 Ranger goal you're talking about, jkr. Just brutal.

The Leafs will be a hard team to play against if they ever get a decent goaltender ...
Cheers.

Agree, Dis. Babcock has them playing competitive, albeit boring, hockey. Reimer has played well of late...43 saves vs. Vancouver on Saturday. But Reimer's not really a true #1, either…never has been. I think teams aren't taking the Leafs all that seriously now, which is contributing to a lot of close games. Starting at 3:58 of the clip…you'll see the amateur, juicy rebound Bernier gave up to Zuccarello for the winner. You'll also see Kadri fail to react to the play and stay with Zuccarello. Post-game scrum... REPORTER: You said before the game, that he (Bernier) needs to get confidence back. What do you think right now? Where are you with him right now? BABCOCK: Well, Reims is starting against Colorado…that's where I'm at. Y'know, I mean, the bottom line is we're in the winning-business…and so...whether you gotta earn your own confidence…that's how the league is.

I want them to be bad, but not so bad that they have a shot at garnering a top pick.

The Leafs goaltenders are letting at least one stinker a game ... kind of reminds me of Cristobol Huet, but Huet would be an upgrade to who they have now ... Cheers.

I think the Leafs have a much better future than it appears right now and probably sooner rather than later. You can see how frustrated Babcock is because the players can't seem to follow elementary instructions. He is adamant that in the last minute when the other team has pulled its goalie, the winger on the side away from where the puck is, has to watch for a player sneaking in the back door. Sure enough in one recent game, that's what happened and Babcock rightfully blew a fuse. It looks like he's instilling a system but some players have too low a hockey IQ to understand it or are too undisciplined to follow. Despite that and despite their goaltending, they've actually been in a lot of games. I find that freaking amazing. They're getting high picks and are making them count now, so there's something for their fans to look forward to.

Florida scores with 20 seconds to go in the 3rd, and they beat Tampa 1-0.
Schadenfreude continues...

I've watched many Lightning highlights and they seem to be suffering from a lot of bad luck or a millimeter problem. One more mm and that puck would have gone in. It's really amazing how they've missed some goals. That should reverse as the season wears on, but hopefully Yzerman will be pressured into a mistake. Just wishing.

Guy Boucher "Released" From Swiss ClubAvailable for NHL duty again, should a coach fall…. The story seems to be that he was planning on leaving at the end of the year anyway….to help his mother in her cancer battle. So the club made the replacement sooner rather than later….

His club just fell to 9th in league standings, so he wasn't having a good year, either. I don't know much about the Swiss League or Bern, so can't comment on whether his situation was affecting things, or if he just had a mediocre line-up.

Swiss league is good. Not on the level of some, but still good hockey. He didn't have much of a team. For North Americans, the most recognizable names would be Cory Conacher - leading them in scoring - and Sean Bergenheim.

They've had plenty of good looks from what I've been seeing, and the goalies have stepped up and made some really good saves against them.

Leafs outshot but tie the game up late when Carolina gets called for - wait for it - a face off violation penalty with 4 minutes left. Sounds like game management at its worst. The leafs even get a PP in overtime but end up winning it the SO.

Nashville outshot the Rangers badly. Rags are pulling a Carey this year. Lundquist is making the team look much better than they are.

There was a big thread up last night on HF. Dubinsky cross-checked him in the neck, sending Sid to the ice. He then cross-checked him in the kidneys, breaking his stick. The latter looked significantly harder to me, and not just because the stick broke. Some of the commentary in the thread discussed various attacks during the game with no penalties.
I fully expect Cherry to come on and say if guys like Semenko were still around ...
My reply would be, if the refs actually didn't suck ...
