Apparenly some Bruins fans took to throwing bottles at Sens players, which is unfortunate. I expect better of fans, particularly those in Boston. That could be grounds for assault if they're not careful. Just seeing video during Calgary intermission. Someone tried to grab Ryan's stick and take it from him. Karlsson gave the guy a good chop to the hand. Why these arenas that have visiting team exits along the sideboards don't have extended canopies is beyond me. Should be mandatory imo.

Leafs got the PP in the last min of the third. It was a legit high stick from Eller. Ref paused, briefly, but raised his arm. Thoughts about the Caps .... Shattenkirk hasn't been good at all. One of the most accurate shooting defenders in the league, and on a 5-on-3 he misses the net five times. On the Leafs goal late in the second that tied it, both he and Orpik took Hyman behind the net. Orpik was there first, and there was no reason for Shatty to go there. Top it off, two forwards went passed the goal line putting 4 Caps behind the goal line. Brutal. Neither goalie looked consistently good tonight. Andersen made a key save on Kuznetsov in close that would have made it 4-1, but both let in goals they shouldn't have. There's been plenty of turnover on that roster over the years. They have good players. They just seem to be their own worst enemy, year after year. Thoughts on the Sens/Bruins ... CBC calling the Karlsson saucer pass the best of all time. Hyperbole aside, it was a great play. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Bruins stormed back, and looked the better team in the third. I didn't see much of the OT. Just back in time to see Ryan score on a goal mouth play. Apparenly some Bruins fans took to throwing bottles at Sens players, which is unfortunate. Have the Flames game on, they're up 2-0 in the first. Two PP goals. Monahan has goals in all three games. That tying goal started with an Eller giveaway in the Leafs zone. He didn't make much of an effort to get back & was out of position as Nylander was getting 2 great chances. Then he gets a late penalty that leads to the game winner. Great night Lars. I thought that was #10 that coasted back as the 5th Cap. That would make it Connolly.

Looked like #20 to me but in the end I guess it doesn't matter. Bad night for Eller & the Caps blow it again.

Controversial play in Calgary. Looked like a highstick to make it 4-3. Flames with a one goal lead.

Tie game in Calgary. Yikes. Flames' D-zone coverage looking scary.

4 series at 3-0. never would have thought that.

4 series at 3-0. never would have thought that. I thought the CHI series could be 3-0, but with the other team being in the series lead. Figured there might be might be one first round sweep just playing the odds, but this is quite shocking with four series on the cusp. The fourth win in a series is the hardest, and those four teams should leave nothing on the ice next game. We still may not see a sweep this round.

Tie game in Calgary. Yikes. Flames' D-zone coverage looking scary. Losing 5-4 in OT after leading 4-2 after two. That one will hurt, just like the first two. Edit: Not sure about that highstick goal. Just saw the highlights so did not hear the commentary and context, but it sure had Flames fans in an uproar.

Shattenkirk hasn't been good at all. One of the most accurate shooting defenders in the league, and on a 5-on-3 he misses the net five times. He has been downright brutal in all three games. Last night was his worse game yet, he looked on more than one occasion like he wanted to be anywhere else, as long as it wasn't in a Capitals jersey. That 5 on 3 was terrible. Ovechkin was wide open for most of that PP. He got the puck once and he hit the net ... they never looked his way again. Shattenkirk kept firing wide. And Backstrom??? They left him alone, 3 feet from Andersen, and all he did was stickhandle and try to look for pin point between the legs passes. Shoot the damn puck and crash ...

I thought the Blackhawks had come back from a 0-3 deficit before....nope....close in 2011 vs. Vancouver...but they lost 2-1 in OT. Was that the Burrows goal?
Only Toronto (vs. Detroit, 1942); the Islanders (vs. Pittsburgh, 1975); Philly (vs. Boston, 2010); and Los Angeles (vs. San Jose, 2014).
Good on the Preds.

Elliott was down right horrible last night for the Flames. First goal was a brutal rebound of a wrister from the half wall on his right. He let another one in from the same spot; a soft wrister. The OT goal he tried to redirect out of harms way and put it off the backside of his own defender. You're not going far with goal tending like that.
I don't know what to say about the Hawks. Preds out shot them 49 to 36 last night. The shot margin was big the whole game. Rinne made a spectacular save last night recovering on a shoot in. He left his net to play the puck, it took a bad bounce off a stanchion and was going in. He dove, with a poke check, to deflect the puck from harms way. It took the Hawks 3 games to score.

Full marks to the Leafs, but the Caps have only themselves to blame. Talk about passengers. They can't control the Leafs' speed. Out-coached?

Well, the Oilers know how it feels to get thumped in a playoff game. That's the first time the Oilers have given up 7 in a playoff game since 1992. We'll see how they respond. Draisaitl got 5 and a game for spearing Tierny last night. He'll likely get a game for it. So far, their lesser lights have been leading the charge. They need to start getting goals from McDavid, Maroon, Lucic, and Draisaitl.

Leafs are playing well...but they're also getting favourable bounces.
Caps go up 2-0 early (again)...then the Leafs respond quickly with a deflection off Hyman's skate.
Send a couple our way....

Leafs were nowhere in the second period...then Backstrom took a selfish holding-the-stick penalty.
Another bounce...and it's 4-2.
If the Caps choke up this lead....they'll deserve all the criticism they'll get.

Eller Eller Eller. 7 seconds left in the second.
Puts his hand on the puck after the faceoff.
And now Orpik slashes Marner's stick with 3 seconds left.
Leafs will start the third with a 1:54 5-on-3.
Talk about the breaks...

Leafs keep it close, but no cigar. All tied up back to DC.
Ottawa hangs on 1-0 against the Bs who will now be playing an elimination game on the road. Boo hoo hoo.

The Caps must think the Leafs are like a bad rash. They just won't go away. 5-4 final and the Caps were holding on much of the period.
I feel for the Flames. Despite losing 4-0 in games, it was a close series. Elliott imploded. He let in a very soft one last night and was immediately pulled. Begs the question, why not just start Johnson if the leash was that short?
Just an FYI, the Saturday game for the Habs and Rangers is an 8pm edt start. NBC plans to air it, so they're pulling rank. Thanks! :/

With a different emphasis 9pm adt starts bite the big one lol. Shades of the 'old days'. Means the game won't end til nearly 12, barring no OT. Tack on 30 mins for NL of course. Re the Leafs, I near barfed last night when they scored to make it 4-2. Hughson legit said, "cue the come back!" Good grief. Doesn't get much more homer than that. I shouldn't be surprised, but it's still painful.

"that" Washington OT? still was to bed at a decent time. I don't expect to hear that tonight should the Habs fall behind (not that they are going to).

When I first started watching Hockey Night in Canada I was living in Saint John, NB. We got two channels on our TV - CBC and CTV (and, as I recall CTV was actually a weak Halifax signal that we were able to pull in thanks to an outside antenna my dad had put up). There was no colour TV. Saturday night game broadcasts started at 9:30 pm AST. Think about that - the games actually started at 8:00 pm EST, which means that when the television broadcast started the first period was almost over. And the worst part of it all was that we were at the mercy of Toronto-centric CBC even back then. To catch the Habs on the "national" broadcast was a rare treat.

I watched the 86 cup run in black and white. At least those broadcasts were live and not tape delayed. Still, 9pm sucks. I remember my first 'marathon' game. 1987 quadruple OT between Islanders and Caps; the Easter Epic. 11 years old, and I'm up til 3am watching lol.

In SW Ontario during my childhood, we were able to pull in the big 3 U.S. networks through their affiliates in Cleveland and Detroit.
Starting in 1966 or so, we watched The Jackie Gleason Show on CBS before switching to CBC and Ward Cornell.
From Miami Beach....the sun and fun capital of the world....
Getting U.S. programming had its drawbacks, too.
If we had a certain babysitter....she wouldn't switch to HNIC.
Over to ABC for....

Grew up in Ottawa in the 60's/70's and my parents would watch Don Messer's Jubilee before the game started (Diamond Lil also aired from the Skyline Hotel once a week ... don't know why I correlated that with hockey, though) ... we'd come in near the end of DM because we know hockey was on next ... we could eventually afford another TV and that went downstairs ... used to watch a lot of games from the basement because I didn't want anyone around me if the Habs lost ... I'd tune into SRC if the national CBC game was the Leafs ... would even tune into the French FM broadcast on my radio for some of the weekday games ... fast forward to the 80's when I was living in Charlottetown, PEI and I'd tune in Dick Irvin on the radio if the game wasn't on the tube ...
Cheers.

Mom would watch Tommy Hunter, then hand the TV over to me ... The 1987 Isles/Caps I was 15 and watched it all (got to bed close to 4am!!) If I recall CBC carried the game because it was the only game that night and it was on a Saturday.
