I'm old enough to remember the days of 2 channels. Despite the colour tv in the basement, my first tv was an old RCA black and white with rabbit ears. It got CBC and CTV/ATV. I watched the 86 cup run in black and white. At least those broadcasts were live and not tape delayed. Still, 9pm sucks. I remember my first 'marathon' game. 1987 quadruple OT between Islanders and Caps; the Easter Epic. 11 years old, and I'm up til 3am watching lol. Mom would watch Tommy Hunter, then hand the TV over to me ... The 1987 Isles/Caps I was 15 and watched it all (got to bed close to 4am!!) If I recall CBC carried the game because it was the only game that night and it was on a Saturday. Yah, I was switching back and forth in regulation between that and The Ten Commandments lol. First time for that marathon too!

From the insult to injury file....DD scored in OT as the Oil are now up 3-2 in their series. They dominated in OT at home last night.

It was up in the air whether Desharnais was even going to play in Game 5. Draisaitl was a force in this game.

Grew up in Ottawa in the 60's/70's and my parents would watch Don Messer's Jubilee before the game started (Diamond Lil also aired from the Skyline Hotel once a week ... don't know why I correlated that with hockey, though) ... we'd come in near the end of DM because we know hockey was on next ... we could eventually afford another TV and that went downstairs ... used to watch a lot of games from the basement because I didn't want anyone around me if the Habs lost ... I'd tune into SRC if the national CBC game was the Leafs ... would even tune into the French FM broadcast on my radio for some of the weekday games ... fast forward to the 80's when I was living in Charlottetown, PEI and I'd tune in Dick Irvin on the radio if the game wasn't on the tube ... Cheers. OMG Rick... Major flashback... Don Messer... what about the Fiendly Giant?

Had to go 'round back of the castle to open up the drawbridge ... no satellite TV ... rabbit ears on CBOT channel 8 ... might have to go to the UHF band and tune in Rene Lecavalier on SRC ... Cheers.

Full marks to Nashville. They completely dominated the Hawks. Preds might have the loudest 17k fans too. They were into last night in the third. Lots of chanting in unison, etc. "Sweep, sweep, sweep!" Was a common one. It would be a great atmosphere to take in a game.

Kadri just suckered Ovechkin with a low hip to the knee.
Just 2:00 for "tripping".
Ovechkin laid on the ice....and had to be helped off.
Kadri is all dirt. HNIC not saying boo about it. Just that it was a terrific impact. Ha!
If I'm a Capital meat-head...I go right for Matthews. All night. As well as for Kadri.
Caps up 1-0 on the PP.

Cherry calling the hit A BEAUTY.
Nope...Kadri knew he was going for Ovie's knee. He's a cheap-shot artist at heart.
Reminds me of Tucker on Peca in 2002.
Keep your head up, Kadri.

Ovechkin is back to start the second.
People saying it's impossible to hit dirty with your hip (low-bridge aside).
There's a topic for discussion.....
IMO, you can time and aim a forward hip check at a single leg. That's what Kadri did...and that's dirty.
Such a play could happen several times per game...but it's rare for a reason.

Matthews with quick hands in front. 1-1.
What a gem of a prize for a deliberate tank.
EDIT: Ovie gives Kadri a tap in the arm....Kadri jumps, grabs his knee, and falls. Grab that GIF and use it as a prime example of a dive.
But Niskanen gets the penalty? Still can't figure that out
End of the second. 1-1. The Leafs' speed and enthusiasm are making the Caps look slow and disjointed.

Kadri is a total sh*t. He lowbridges Ovechkin, then drops like he got shot when Ovi gave him a tap.

When you go down with your hip on a forward check and hit on the upper thigh....that's dirty. The rest of the panel tried to smooth it over....but Kypreos said, "I had my knee ripped apart early in my career. I cringe whenever I see that kind of hit."

I wanted to respond on twitter, but with a 140 char limit, there's just no way.
1. Kadri blatantly targeted the knee. It wasn't a submarine hit. He was low all the way, leading with head and his own knee. That's a clip. When you go low, head first, you're clipping.
2. The Tucker hit is a submarine. Like Marchand vs the Canucks, a submarine hit is deliberately going low at the very last minute. You fool the opponent into thinking you're going to check level, then drop at the last moment. Tucker actually drive his behind directly into Peca's left leg.
3. Emelin, and those that hip check legally, lead with their backside. They go in backwards for the hit the whole way. No last minute turn. No last minute drop. They skate backwards into the hit. It requires the ability to skate backwards at speed with a great sense of timing. Very rarely do they come in contact with the knee. Typically, their hip/backside goes directly into the hip/waist of their check.
Yes, they're all dangerous. They can all lead to injury. The CBC panel discussed it at length in the second intermission. Kypreos thinks any hit below the waste should be banned. He's biased in that, because he blew out a knee receiving low hit. I can appreciate that. We've bred a generation of players that don't know how, or don't care, to hit clean above the waist. Still, I don't like penalizing players who have a skill others don't by making that skill illegal.
Kadri should have been assessed a major for clipping. Simple as that.

That's the way I see it, blny.
What the Kadri and Tucker hits have in common (other than the uniform) is the skating forward into them. Both are targeted, intentional dirt.
I think a backwards/leading with the hip check (a la Emelin) should remain legal. The clip and low-bridge/submarine should receive an automatic major/expulsion as a deliberate attempt to injure....i.e. going after the knee.

I know I shouldn't read the comments but the stuff on NHL.competition is hilarious. Ovechkin is faking, was a clean hit, bla, bla, bla. As long as it's a Leaf, anything goes. Pretty pathetic level of comment.
