Nice game Lars. Heckuva save Holtby. Series on! HUGE game from Lars. He was the best forward on the ice and you could argue he's been the Caps' best all around forward in the playoffs. Trotz knows it too, as he had Eller on the ice for the full final minute and he had 2 huge (clean) defensive draw wins to help secure the win. I hope Kuznetsov is OK.

Enjoyed that game ... is Alex Ovechkin animated, or what ... see his reaction to Braden Holtby's game-saving stop ... very happy for Lars Eller ...
Cheers.

If the Caps win the Cup, that save will live forever....a la Dryden's on Pappin, Game 7, 1971. Yes, both Tuch and Pappin could've fired it higher....but those pucks usually go in.

I've always hated that the refs miss the first infraction, but inevitably punish the second. It's like telling a player...."you have no choice but to be bullied. You can't fight back or we'll throw you in the box". It happens all the time. The announcers say it's catching the retaliation, but what the hell was wrong with the refs with the first infraction? If you're going to let the first one go, let the second one go, or call both of them. You do either of those things and it's even. You penalize the retaliation and you're influencing the game.

Anyone watching the game ... Washington is carrying the majority of the play ... Ovechkin with the game's only goal ... Eller had a scoring chance on his last shift and is dominating the faceoff circle 7-1 ...
Cheers.

Washington's defense is underrated. They're giving Vegas fits.

Good grief, where was Vegas' spatial awareness on that rush that ended in Smith-Pelley goal? Perron and Neal coasted and picked up no one on their back checks and the Knights' d-men recognized the danger way too late and looked like their skates were stuck in wet cement.

Kypreos: Ovechkin has gone from ME to WE....
Too easy.
Ovechkin's "selfishness" has been a loud narrative over the years....and I'm not sure I buy it.
Much like the Subban narrative.

What a period.
Washington weathers an early storm--Vegas hits two posts (How did Neal miss his open net?), Caps storm back.
3-0.

I don't buy this either, CH. Ovechkin wants his team to win, and he felt he had to be "the guy" (a.k.a. scoring goals) to be effective. Something changed in these playoffs. The pressure is off him, and I think he's seeing things with a clearer perspective. His game looks more complete this year.

Ovechkin has never been selfish. I'm sure I could go back and find posts where I've argued such. The addition of Oshie and Kuznetsov becoming a consistent threat have allowed Ovechkin to be Ovechkin

I think what's fundamental in the Canadian narrative has been: "Crosby vs. Ovie"--"Canadian vs. Russian" during international tournaments....and it's bled into the NHL. Crosby has usually come out on top, so Canadian media coverage makes a flawed comparison: Crosby plays a team game and wins, while Ovie is selfish and loses. BS. Ovie is one of the greatest scorers in NHL history and demonstrates the desire, passion, and team attitude any coach would want on his team. EDIT: And there's no telling how far the President's Trophy Caps would've gone in 2010, if not for Halak. That was a very strong team. Their goaltending may have been too suspect to go all the way, but definitely good enough to get past that year's Habs.

I've always disagreed with using team accomplishments when comparing players and its Canadian media that persists on doing it ... They lead with the narrative that Canada is the best hockey nation and then think that a player not winning an international competition shows he isn't as good. A team littered with KHL players obviously is not a fair comparison , and Id say it's the same in the NHL ... It is not that simple to say player X has won Stanley Cups so he is better

Vegas is angry because their embellishing tactics aren't working......gooning it up Bruins' style.
McNabb should be suspended for a game. That was a brutal hit from behind into the boards on Oshie.

Reaves goes after Smith-Pelley for no reason. Gallant needs to control his bench.

The Caps have really surprised me.
The demons are almost vanquished.
Lose the first 2 at home to Columbus....win the next 4.
Lose the first at home to Pittsburgh....win 4 of the next 5.
Down 3-2 to Tampa....shut out the Bolts in Games 6 and 7.
Lose the first in Vegas.....win the next 3.
Cherry throwing Fleury under the bus.
He has NOT played well this whole series! The Winnipeg players are sayin', "Where was this guy when we played 'em."
Disagree, Don....Vegas hit some posts early....but them's the breaks. It was "one of those games". I can't fault Fleury on the loss. The Caps are matching the Knights' speed and aggressiveness on every shift.
Washington's best players have been their best players....and their best players are better than the Knights' best players.

Twice Miller engaged with Oshie, and twice Miller came away with the worst of it. Not sure what Miller's angry about on either play.
