Had a good chuckle when I read it ... quite the assessment on Tomas Plekanec, but I do think they'd be better off dressing Dominic Moore ... I guess there's panic in Leaf Nation ... for good reason, though ... To save the sinking Maple Leafs ship, Babcock needs to put some personal beliefs asideDAVID SHOALTS BOSTON PUBLISHED APRIL 15, 2018 UPDATED 34 MINUTES AGOMike Babcock is the master of projecting resolve and determination from every fibre of his being ... Perhaps the best place Babcock can start with his list of repairs is himself. If the Leafs are to slow down the buzz saw that tore through them in the first two games of the series, the coach has to put aside at least some of his own beliefs. For example, his lack of trust in Dominic Moore and his persistent yet puzzling belief in Tomas Plekanec. All season long, Babcock looked elsewhere for a fourth-line centre while Moore played in fits and starts. It started in training camp with the Miro Aaltonen flirtation, then there was Eric Fehr for a bit, back to Moore, then Frédérik Gauthier and so on. Plekanec’s arrival at the trade deadline was supposed to end all that and give the Leafs someone who could play almost anywhere in the lineup. But the shock that the Montreal Canadiens traded him, the only NHL team he ever played for, seems to have been too much for Plekanec. Through two playoff games, the reluctant Czech was a mere spectator. He should never wear a Leafs sweater again ... Link

Wonder if Captain Attitude really did have a trade/re-sign agreement with Pleks....

I think it was Mitch Melnicknwho wrote at the deadline that if Bergevin re-signed Pleks, he should be fired. Can’t agree more except of course that I think he should have been fired a couple of years ago.
I’ve always liked Dominic Moore. He and Max (Lapierre) made a great PK pair during our magical 2010 run. I can’t understand Babcock’s dislike of him either. Beginning to think Babcock has his vices too, which aren’t always right. He never cared for Subban either which was the first time I wondered about him. There have been a lot of questions this year about his use of Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. He’s showing that bias toward veterans like so many coaches.

Couldn’t make a bad call if I wanted to yesterday. All my picks won. Today not so much. Vegas saved me this evening with a good 3-2 win. Thankfully Indiana best Lebrons Cavs or I’d have gone o’fer in basketball too. It’s like that some days. I’m glad the markets were closed.

I don't follow Melnick so I'm not sure if he addresses this too.

Looks like the Kings would have benefitted from picking up goal scoring at the deadline. They are down 0-3 and have scored just 3 goals in a little over 10 periods.

Yeah, LA as my first round upset is not looking good right now.
Washington could definitely wrestle the playoff choke artist title from San Jose if they keep this mess up.

Washington on its way to yet another playoff fail. 0-2 going to Columbus. Ovi will likely shoulder the blame, but I think it's unfair. He's got 92 points in 99 playoff games. There's just something about that organization that seems to be cursed. Grubauer has started both games for the Caps. I'm not sure why Holtby, who won 32 games, is playing back up. How about Price and Pacioretty for Ovechkin and Holtby?

Reports about Holtby working through a lower body injury back in late March....but here's a rundown (FWIW) from Rotoworld.Holtby appears to have been struggling since the All-Star break.

Babcock going with experience.....maybe make that line better defensively, if nothing else. They might get the Bergeron, Pastrnak, Marchand assignment with last change...but are Marner and Marleau known for great defensive play? Kadri's suspension has thrown a wrench into the works.

Anyone else surprised the Kings are down 3-0 to start. I wasn't expecting that. I haven't been watching the series too closely, but what I've seen MAF was spectacular in game 3. VGK is the faster team. Doughty and Muzzin were back last game. Muzzin was hurt, so it's hard to say how healthy he really is.

Drew Doughty, the wunderkind, got caught expecting his teammates to win the battle and get him the puck behind the net and then ooops, what's that guy Karlsson doing in front all alone? I shouldn't pick on Doughty because he's an excellent defenceman, but he rarely gets criticized for anything. He makes the same mistakes even the best defensemen do, and that's partly why he's great, because he takes the right risks at the right time, most of the time. But he does make mistakes. If only he had a better attitude.
(Is Bergevin ever going to regret that excuse)
(I wonder if we can sneak a "No Talent" sign into the dressing room before training camp. Sign it, 'Marc Bergevin'. See what reaction we get)

Kopitar takes the butt end of a stick to the face. No call. Possibly no suspension either, because why would there be.

The angle from away, at around the 1 minute mark, makes it look like he barely touched him. Near as I can tell the stick was not poking passed his glove, which defines a true butt end for me.

Bruins tie it up after refs choose to ignore Kuraly pulling Moore away from getting the puck. Leafs respond immediately. 2-1
Had to chuckle as Pleks gets a great chance in the slot and hits Rask dead centre in the chest. Glad the kids won’t see that anymore. What a role model.

I wasn’t sold on Andersen and he’s proving to be a liability for the Leafs. Two bad goals tonight. Amazing how bad a coac Babcock is when the goaltending is weak.
