Forgot about the Reinhart deal. Chiarelli gave the Isles a 1st & a 2nd for him. NY used the 1st to draft Barzal. Another awful deal.

Late Saturday afternoon in October, 1978. Walking up Church Street, between Carlton and Wellesley. 3 well-dressed, athletic men of similar size walking abreast toward me. Like a wall, really. Didn't take long before I recognized them as McDonald, Sittler, and Maloney....the Leafs' big line at the time--no doubt walking to the Gardens after their pre-game steak and pasta. I was only 19....and I still kick myself for not saying anything to them. Maloney was one tough player. A Fergie type.

He's a bit before my time, so my memories of him are as a coach with the Leafs an Jets.

Looks like the National Capital Commission and the City of Ottawa have given Melnyk and his partner 6-8 weeks to get their affairs in order or the NCC will have another bidding process for the LeBreton Flats location. Aye carumba, another big black cloud follows the Sens around. www.tsn.ca/sens-in-danger-of-losing-lebreton-rights-1.1214169

Aye carumba, another big black cloud follows the Sens around. and we are saying "what took so freakin' long?" absolutely ridiculous that he won -- he's a game player and will only want more and more concessions as the build goes on. giving him the win was supposed to help him/the Sens out. all it did was give him hope that he could line his pockets more. Expect to see more of this in the days ahead:

The Reinhart trade (that was Chiarelli, no?) was pretty brutal too. Yeah, that one is up there with the Hall/Larsson deal. To get Reinhart, they gave up pick #15 (Matt Barzal) and pick #33 (Mitchell Stephens who went to Tampa along with pick #72, Anthony Cirelli for Pick #28 who was Anthony Beauvillier. Not bad for Garth Snow. Stephens, Cirelli and Reinhart for Barzal and Beauvillier. Larceny.

Brian Burke is not a fan. Feels they are “amateurish”. Grumpy old man.
This is the entertainment business after all. If the fans dig it, who cares. They beat the Leafs recently. That is okay in my books.

I don't have a problem with it either. It's a college town. A huge college town. Bringing that atmosphere is a great way to get fans inspired. Having something to do with the fans after the game, that's positive, inspires the club.

Sabres lead the league after 9 straight wins. 10-1-0 in their last 11.
8 of those Ws by 1 goal...but you can definitely sense a confidence building.

Duchene with a great long-distance, hand-eye, mid-air goal...vs. Philly.
Better that it was the ultimate winner late in the third.

Original shot off the dman....then bats it in with his backhand. I don't know the odds of something like that happening....but a cool moment for Duchene. What are the odds of Cherry showing it on Saturday night along with this one.....and the usual hyperbole that goes with it? (Of course, as with most Orr highlights Cherry uses, it was before he coached him.)

Matthews is back....assists on their first PP goal. Scores the 2nd PP goal on a wicked release.
The Leafs need a couple of solid D....and they're legit Cup contenders. Envious? You bet.
Forgot to MUTE on the first PP goal, and heard Teen Beat Greg Millen say, "San Jose has the best penalty kill in the league! The Leafs made it look pretty dumb didn't they?"
No way, Greg....it was like more like uh...icky....

Through 25 games Karlsson has just 2 goals & is -8. Pretty disappointing so far & he's had enough time to blend in with the Sharks. I know I wa expecting a bounce back from him after escaping Ottawa.

so I get into Toronto and the first thing I hear on the radio is that the Leafs should win the President's Trophy and the Stanley Cup; the second thing that Marner is the MVP.
my condolences to those who have to listen to this daily

Did they have the champagne out (thanks CH) ... Cheers. They've been drinking the champagne ever since the Tavares signing. I suppose it's that way in most front-running markets. We don't notice/don't complain when it happens in Montreal, because we're a biased part of it. But, yeah...their media's laying on some thick Maple syrup. I'm enjoying Toronto hockey PLAIN.... I tell my Leafs' fan buddies, "Isn't it great when you know your team has a legit shot at the Cup? For me, that was called The '70s!" Without fail, their comeback is, "Yeah, but that's when Montreal was guaranteed the best French-Canadian players." And I have to roll out the explanation--which they don't believe. I ask them how Pollock secured Lafleur. Not a clue. For them, it's better to hate based on willful ignorance and misinformation than to hate simply because the Habs have 24 Cups. They're basically tarnishing the total by asserting we either found a way to cheat, or received league favouritism. FAKE SPORTS!

From what I can find, it has only happened 8 times: newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/04/08/8-nhl-teams-that-have-won-presidents-trophy-and-stanley-cup-in-same-year/Amazing how they disregard all the other improved teams like, for instance, the team that's 1st overall right now - Buffalo.

If MTL got the best French Canadian players of the 70s why did Gilbert Perreault spend his entire career in Buffalo? People are lazy CH. They would rather believe the myth that affirms what they feel rather than do the work & find out the truth.

The NHL voted to end the "French Canadian Rule" after the team took Rejean Houle and Marc Tardif (both in 1969) ... unless they could have landed the 1st overall pick in '70, removing the rule eliminated the team from landing Gilbert Perreault ... too bad it couldn't have been extended into the 1971 season ... they would have most certainly have chosen Guy Lafleur, and if Pollock had dealt for the #1 pick anyway, he would have had Marcel Dionne from the OHA, in addition to Lafleur and Perreault ... dare to dream ... Cheers.

The NHL loves this stuff otherwise they'd suspend him for a year and the NHLPA silence on this is an embarrasment. Why dont they have their own review and have their own punative action.
