O'Reilly with the Smythe. Well-earned.
Thought Binnington solidified it with that save at 2-0.

As I've been saying for weeks now, there is no way the Bruins win the Cup.

Nice to see that the Cup winning goal is all on Marchand.

O'Reilly hoisting the Conn Smythe and the Stanley Cup. I just got a text from an old university mate (lifelong Buffalo fan) and he said being a Sabres fan is surreal and filled with self-loathing.

ROR with the accidental F-bomb was pretty funny. He was so embarrassed he let it slip lol.
The Blues were full marks for a masterful rope-a-dope road game. So many pucks directed at the net that they used bodies and sticks to get out of the slot efficiently. The ice was horrible, and their simple game was a perfect fit.

As I've been saying for weeks now, there is no way the Bruins win the Cup. 😜 someone here picked the Blues from day one, albeit hedging his bets at every turn. I actually pegged the score of tonight's game, but thought that 'the other team" would get the four. thought that the Blues wouldn't be able to win it in Boston. very happy to be wrong tonight.

At some point back in January, the Blues were in last place. That is going to be quite the story line. Jan 2. because once US Thanksgiving weekend comes, the teams that are in playoff positions stay in playoff positions.

I just switched over to NBC from CBC & noticed that the American broadcast is on a slight delay, about 3 seconds. Odd. I've noticed that in the Raptors broadcasts. I can watch TSN or Sportsnet, switch to NBC abd five seconds later the same play takes place. Literally 5 seconds.

This Blues win is so satisfying and relieving. I could not have stood the smugness of a Marchand for another year. To see him crestfallen (who made up that word?) was a pretty damn good feeling. Not that I carry a grudge. Ok, I do carry a grudge for some players and teams. Especially if they're disgusting human beings.
There's such a calmness in the house tonight. Ahhhh.....

Marchand was ineffective tonight, and can be blamed for the game-winning goal.

At some point back in January, the Blues were in last place. Remarkable. Is the voting already in for the Jack Adams? If not, this might tip the scale for Berube. EDIT: Then again, that trophy might involve only the regular season.... Pretty sure the voting is conducted before the playoffs start.

Marchand was ineffective tonight, and can be blamed for the game-winning goal. Other than the PP, Marchand, Bergeron and Pasta were pretty ineffective. If I'm a Bruin fan I gotta feel this is as close as they'll get to a Cup with Chara and Bergeron in the line up. Tey got some good young talent but will be very hard to replace those two guys. Bye bye Bruins!!!

My sentiments exactly. That was too close for comfort, but all calm now. Know too many smug Bruins fans. I was pleasantly surprised that Marchand didn't take a cheap shot in the waning minutes.

Not sure I agree with you there, WD. Hughson doesn't sound rattled. He made good calls on all of St. Louis' goals and saves. Except he did say the Blues were about to break the longest Cup winless streak with the win. By my math the Leafs have the longest streak as the last time they won a Cup, the Blues had yet to play an NHL game. But why would an embedded Leafs broadcaster want to provide embarrassing info on his pet team?

I wonder how Leaf fans felt when they saw Bozak hoist the Cup. They got Tavares but Bozak has a championship.

The only TSN guy that picked the Blues & stuck with it was Dave Poulin. When they went around the panel in the pre-game show, O'Neill & Button were emphatically pro Boston.

The only other 67/68 expansion team to have never won it all was the California/Oakland Seals--but at least they have a remote link to one. They morphed into the Cleveland Barons (76); merged with the North Stars (78)....who moved to Dallas (93) and won a Cup (99). (Reaching, yes...but still closer than the Leafs. ) The second-longest droughts would belong to the Canucks and the Sabres, who joined the league in 70-71.

Happy for the Blues, the last team from the initial expansion wave in 1967 to win a Cup.
A real coming out party of sorts for Ryan O'Reilly. I remember he had some character questions when he was drafted and was always stuck on bad teams, but he combines talent and tenacity in a way that few guys do. I was impressed with him throughout the playoffs.

Gotta say, I hated the rope-a-dope approach. People were talking about how defensively great the Blues played, but from what I saw the Bruins just blew it. Pastrnak had two wide open nets for one-timers and fanned on both of them, and on at least two other occasions the Bruins had yawning cages facing them, only to fumble a pass - or outright miss it. And then of course Binnington made some spectacular saves, going post-to-post and getting his leg on on some almost-sure-thing goals. Congratulations to the Blues, they can never take it away from them. But man, I think there will be more than a few Bruins spending some sleepless nights wondering what could have been. Apparently if the Bruins had of won they were going to put an extra ring on the Cup, to accommodate this year's co-winners, the Toronto Maple Leafs who most certainly would have won if they didn't have to play Boston in the first round.
