Man, that goal where McDavid undressed Reilly and Hutchinson is a thing of beauty.

I've seen guys look off defenders before but That was on a whole new level. PS: I hate how TSN has turned Sportscentre into a Leafs post game show. It's 10:20 & they are still talking about the Leafs/EDM game.

Here is that goal. Whoot. The impressive thing to me about that goal was both the quick turn and the incredible acceleration to get around Reilly, who is not exactly a pylon. McDavid comes across the red line with some speed (not a ton) and then slows down even more and that more than the look-off, IMO, is what lulls Reilly into thinking a pass is coming. One of the most skilled goals I've seen in a long time.

Chara just jumped some dude on Nashville who laid out McAvoy and much to my surprise this guy (Trenin?) held his own and landed one on Chara's jaw.

I saw that too. He actually staggered Chara. I think he has a lot of respect around the league but I don't think he's as feared as he used to be. Would have liked to hear Jack Edwards call that one.

Alex Ovechkin tied Teemu Selanne last night with 684 career goals , 11th on the all time list
There is no doubt in my mind, that if the 2005 strike did not occur (who knows where Crosby ends up then) Ovechkin would now have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 730 goals (5th all time) and would catch Gretzky's 894 easily.
He still might. Ovechkin may be our generation's last glimpse at a 700 or 800 goal scorer.

He still might. Ovechkin may be our generation's last glimpse at a 700 or 800 goal scorer. He's healthy, still skating well, and playing on a good team. I think he's going to try to play until he beats it. Has a legit chance still. I think Kovalchuk would be just behind him. Between the two work stoppages, Ilya had 298 goals. In the same period Ovi had 339. Ilya's goal per game pace of .485 is less than Ovi's .606. Ilya took a little longer to find his stride than Ovi, and his lack of production with the Kings hurts him. His goal goal production is .507 prior to the 12-13 season. Even including that season, it's just a tick under .500. I think he needed to leave the Devils, from a personal stats pov. Had he stayed in the NHL, it would have been interesting to see where his numbers would be. He played 89% of all his regular season games between 2001 and 2012. If he maintained that pace in the NHL between 2014 and 2018, on a team other than NJD, and maintained his goal scoring pace for his career, that's another 177 goals. Or about 613 goals for his career.

Wow, Tampa is really finding its form.
I mentioned to my brother-in-law (Toronto guy and Leafs fan though thankfully not a rabid one) last weekend that the Maple Leafs may finally miss Boston in the first round and have to go to battle against a hungry, humble, ornery Lightning team.

TBay might just pass the Bruins the way the two teams are playing.

Yeah, that's true. The Bruins have certainly cooled off since October and November.
Time will say but with the goalie tandem they run and the likelihood they add a big piece at the deadline I think that Boston will finish just ahead of Tampa and Toronto.

And TB beat a good Canucks team that was on 7 game winning streak. The highlight package looked like last year's Lightning.

Yeah, that top two in the Atlantic looks ominous for all comers right now. About time for Tampa.

If I were the Leafs I’d love to play Boston again with a different coach.

McD with another beauty to give the Oil 2-1 lead. He explodes with the puck. 44.2 kph when he scored.

Yeah, McDavid is so much fun to watch.
Another good storyline from that game was Kassian v Tkachuk. Actually, there was no Kassian v Tkachuk in the sense that they did not fight because Tkachuk likes to drill people on sneaky dirty hits but he does not like to drop the gloves. For me he should have answered the bell and fought Kassian.
The kid brother in Ottawa is the same type of character.

You won't truly get any respect around the league until you drop the gloves once in a while. I watched Kassian rag doll Tkachuk & thought it looked rather pathetic. Maybe Doughty is right about Tkachuk.

Tkachuks are rats... both of then... cheap shot chicken Saperlipopette artists... Brady charges the net all the time, Weber should have cross checked him between the hip and the ribs...in that nice soft spot so it leaves a mark.

Rogers Hometown Hockey Hubrus.
Of course, they're going to be Leaf-centric.
Florida built a 5-0 lead, going on to win 8-4.
The focus went from "What will Auston Matthews do tonight?" (Sean McKenzie) to "It's a process." (Greg Millen)

Anyone say anything about losing 3 in a row & allowing 17 goals in that span?

Reilly out a minimum of 8 weeks. Muzzin still out.
Boo hoo hoo on their self-imposed cap situation.
