Whatever happened to Nygren?

Whatever happened to Nygren? He never seemed to like living in Hamilton, and was even publicly vocal about it. He was probably on the cusp of a call up, but then was injured. Not surprisingly, he returned to Sweden for a few years. He has now played with HC Davos in Switzerland for the last three seasons. Check him out at the Spengler Cup when host Davos plays.

Wonder if this incident had anything to do with Magnus Nygren returning home ... Magnus Nygren and his brother mugged in Burlington According to a Swedish newspaper, Magnus Nygren and his brother Martin experienced an unpleasant New Years. By Andrew Berkshire Updated Jan 7, 2015, 5:30pm ESTAccording to the Swedish national newspaper Expressen *, Montreal Canadiens prospect and current Hamilton Bulldog defenseman Magnus Nygren had an unpleasant new year while dining with his brother Martin. Due to a long term injury (suspected concussion) that has kept Nygren out of action since November 29th, the young Swede requested that he be allowed to go home for the holidays to be with family, but was denied by the club. It sounds harsh, but considering Nygren left the Bulldogs last year, and traveling concussed isn't always a good idea anyway, you can understand the organization's reasoning. Instead, Nygren asked his brother Martin to come to Hamilton over the holidays, and the two went to a restaurant in Burlington on New Years to have dinner, and while Magnus was paying inside the restaurant, Martin was apparently assaulted and robbed outside on the street. Magnus said his brother was lying on the sidewalk with a swollen face, confused as to what had happened, with his necklace and watch stollen. Considering the reason Nygren stated he left Hamilton the first time around was the violent crime in the area, this sort of event doesn't bode well for his future with the Bulldogs. According to Expressen, Martin Nygren is returning to Sweden later this week. Magnus Nygren's four goals and 10 points in 15 games played are easily the best marks on the Bulldogs' defense. More *

I remembered there was a pot of hype and potential and that he went back home to Sweeden. To bad of the circumstances.

Leafs blow 3-0 lead and fall behind 6-4 in the third to Carolina.
Toronto then scores 3 in 59 seconds. Marner with the bookend goals and an assist between. 5 pts. on the day so far.
EDIT:
Empty netter. 8-6 Leafs final.
Toronto's on a roll.

Yeah, the Leafs can get away with playing 20 or 30 minutes of focused hockey and still pocket a result. I am not sure that is the formula to win the Stanley Cup, but all of that high end talent gives them a significant leg up on the Habs in the race for the playoffs.

What a freakin' annoying game. They blow a big lead, play poorly for most of the game & win in one 59 second segment. It's a trend that's been evident this season. We've seen the Habs on both sides of it, winning in Toronto & losing to the Rangers. A couple of weeks ago, a quality team like Boston blew a 4 goal, 3rd period lead. And just last week, the same Leafs gave up 3 goals in 2 minutes p,us and lost to Calgary. There hasn't been any major rule changes this year that would cause these defensive lapses/ offensive outbursts. Is it a cumulative effect of all the changes along with smaller goalie equipment? I can't explain it. It's fun to watch - usually.

Lots of ex-Hab presence at the annual Spengler Cup again this year. Fucale came up strong in Canada’s first game for the win. Too bad he never really played this well consistently at the AHL level. I had some hope for Kristo, but he never really was able to make the jump. Maxwell was always a fringe prospect for me, but I liked his hockey IQ.

Rags/Leafs split three points. Not ideal.

Neat stat/graphic. What to say...tiempos de vacas flacas...Canadian clubs have certainly not been well managed over the decade, nor in the not so common playoff appearances that they make have they proven to be clutch.

Nashville took a 2-0 lead in the Winter Classic thanks to a 5 on 3 power play and a five minute major penalty on Dirty Perry; however, the Predators collapsed like a house of cards.

Blindside, deliberate goon play. Reminiscent of Cooke on Savard. If the NHL is serious about head injuries, Perry should be done for the season. That's not hockey; it's assault.
Glad head shots are reviewable on the ice.
Of course, Perry pleads innocence.
From espn: Dallas Stars winger Corey Perry, the first player to be ejected from an NHL Winter Classic, said his hit that injured Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis was an "awkward play" with unintentional results.
"I've played with Ryan before. I know him personally. It's very unintentional. I didn't mean to hurt him. I hope he's OK," Perry said after the Stars' 4-2 win on Wednesday at the Cotton Bowl.
I don't think that's gonna fly at the hearing.
Best angles begin at 0:47.

Leafs leading Jets 5-3 after two. Shots are 37-16 Jets.
Hellebuyck has been awful.

Good for Gallant. That question was pretty lame. Points are points in this league. Montreal is 13th in the conference because Detroit, New Jersey, and Ottawa have basically a perfect record against them. Toronto is rolling mostly on the back of being a team that eats up those cupcakes on their schedule. All the points count the same.
Man, Perry should get a huge suspension. He is not even a sneaky dirty type of guy. Perry has been and continues to be a flat out flagrant dirty player. The fact that he is a vet and says all of the right things after the fact should be totally irrelevant with respect to punishment.

I don't know who that glorified 'reporter' was. That question was as bad as it was uttered. Guy couldn't even complete a coherent sentence. Low, low standards. Folks that aren't even qualified to operate a blog are given press credentials.
