There was a discussion in another thread about blown leads & comebacks. The Bruins opened up a 3-0 1st period lead in Pittsburgh this afternoon. With less than 6 minutes to go in the 3rd, it's now 4-3 Pens. Will see how this one ends. Pens win 4-3 in regulation. The league is just catching up to other sports, where no lead is safe. The advent of coaches pulling goalies well outside of one minute has, in part, changed the landscape.

Last night Florida snapped victory from the jaws of defeat in the last 5 minutes (thought the winning goal was scored by a high stick), so have moved into the 3 spot in the playoff race. Habs are 8 points shy of a playoff spot. At 96 points for a playoff spot (Like Bergevin, I'm trying to give the fans hope), the team has to produce at a .703 clip. It's tougher than it seems because there are 7 teams vying for those 2 wild card spot, so a collapse by 5 teams other than the Habs is improbable.

For sure, the number of teams Montreal needs to climb over makes this virtually impossible even in the event that the boys play better more consistent hockey than they have delivered through fifty games.

Having said that and looking at his goal, that wasn't exactly a Weberesque shot. Glad it went in for him though. Nashville sure likes Habs ex-defensemen, huh? Yannick Weber, PK, Tinordi, Emelin.

Ysnnick Weber scores winning goal for Preds. Ex-Habs defenseman haunting the Caps.

Good for Tinordi. I am sure it is difficult to work through injuries and being labeled a bust.
What did you guys think of the Battle of Alberta? I did not watch beyond the second period, but I thought that Tkachuk did the right thing dropping the gloves with Kassian. That Nugent-Hopkins vs. Monahan fight was kind of bizarre. I think if the game had been lopsided someone on the Oilers would have jumped Giordano because it is crazy how that old goat keeps running into McDavid "accidentally."

I saw that Giordano hit on McDavid. IMO it was , at best, a reckless, clumsy attempt to stop CM from blowing by him. I understand why McDavid was furious.
The referees are just doing a lousy job of protecting players. This is the league's best player. People all over want to see him play. No one is lining up to see Giordano play. Maybe this is a case where you take your chances on the penalty & someone like Kassian makes Giordano accountable for his cheap shot.

Way to go HNIC. Now they are starting rumors. The panel was talking about Dumba to Leafs rumors. Cassie Campbell going on about what a good fit he would be.

I think the most-biased I've seen the sports media was when they started flogging the Brian- Burke-to-Toronto rumours as long as 2 years before it actually happened ... they never left it alone and when things went south they led the Burke-must-die lobby until he was thrown out the door ... I like the TSN hockey panel, but once they start trying to influence players into coming to Toronto I really don't have a lot of time for them ... Cheers.

The battle of AB is back. Finally some meaningful games between these two. Taunting billboards have emerged. Fights galore. Trash talking. Lots of goals. Goalie fights (WTF?). CBC or attend Reggae night on stage at our resort in MoBay? Easie peasie, sandals and tropical bevies won out. My Oiler buddy filled me in lol.

Watching the end of Caps /Pens. Eller with 2 beautiful wrist shot goals.
Samsonov looking very average, IMO.
Pens win 4-3.

Molson, Bergevin, and Julien will have no choice but to take their heads out of the sand soon. Tomorrow Florida or Toronto (if not both) pick up points tomorrow and the Flyers play the shambolic Red Wings.
I do not know how to verify it but I sincerely doubt that in the loser point, 30 team era of the NHL that any club has ever went on two eight game winless streaks and made the playoffs.

Leafs open a 3-1 lead early in the 3rd but Florida scores 4 straight to win 5-3.
Andersen leaves after the 1st with a UBI; it was the result of a crease collision.

Hope the Leafs are still shooting themselves in the foot on Saturday.
They opened the scoring tonight but late in the 1st the Rangers break a 1-1 tie with 2 goals in 6 seconds, with Matthews & Marner on for both. Late in the second, Matthews makes in 3-2 but the Rangers restore the 2 goal lead just 34 seconds later.
Here's hoping the trend continues.

so the goal, if the Habs are going to "just miss" the playoffs and definitely miss out on a decent pick, is to be one point and one spot up in the standings on the Leafs. can you imagine? that would be sweeeeet! seems I may be a bit prescient as the Leaf free-fall continues. funny thing . . . all those teams in front of us . . . I think we're chasing the Leafs for 3rd, too many teams in the Metro division to catch. oops, maybe I should say we're chasing the Panthers.

That was funny. Hyman boards Trouba in the last minute, and Trouba gets up pissed off and beats the crap out of him. Those Leafs not only lack a backup goalie and a top four d-man, they lack individual and team toughness.

just as bad to be a barfallo fan . . .
“What is going on? What are we doing?” Duane Alan Steinel asked on WGR 550 radio last week in a now- infamous rant. “Have they ever sucked the passion out of you like they have me? I’ve dedicated my life to hockey because of this team? Like, I can’t do it any more, man. I’m seriously considering for the first time not being a season-ticket holder this year.” (sorry, no link)

Caps are out of sorts. They were spanked 7-2 by Philly in their last game. Tonight, halfway through, they are down 5-2.
Ovechkin still at 698.

Montreal needs to pray that Florida and Columbus do not come back in their respective games and salvage points.
