Deslauriers with the hattie in the first period tonight against the Sens. Pretty cool for DLo.

And with all due respect to Nico, pretty embarrassing for Hogberg who got pulled after giving up four goals on six shots.

Tampa is not helping. Yesterday was their 2nd loss to the Leafs in about 10 days. And only 1 goal againsg Toronto. C'mon!

Tonight might be the last night of games for the season. NBA is shut down for minimum 2 weeks....but I got the feeling we're talking months and not weeks. The NHL has no choice but to follow suit. Award the cup to the team with best points percentage as of the moment?

Award the cup to the team with best points percentage as of the moment? no (I looked to be sure, it's Boston). You can't use personal bias against them...them have an 8 point lead on everybody else. They deserve it. Also, after looking at the standings, Detroit definetly deserves Lafreniere. Over 20 something points behind Ottawa and the Kings. In this vein, we deserve #2 for losing 4 times to them.

They deserve it. my head agrees with you. my heart doesn't. besides, anything can happen in the playoffs. just ask MB or any Leaf fan. Bruins will lose. right now Ottawa will get picks 2, 3, and 18. Habs get 8. but wait! Barfallo and NJ have 2 games in hand each. if we concede the wins to them then we drop down/move up to 6. gonna be fun to figure it out. or will it just be a repeat of 1919, when there was no Cup winner.

Boy did McDavid send a message to both his team and the Hawks after that brutal team performance in game 1.
Our CHI second rounder (currently 40th, but would drop if the Hawks upset the Oil) is in play with this series.

I daresay after eliminating the Rangers there‘ll be a lot of GM’s regretting not making an $11Mm offer sheet to Aho last summer.

I rarely say nice things about Carolina because they strike me as a goofy organization, but they really have a nice team. They thoroughly outplayed the Rangers in that series and if I am not mistaken Hamilton and Pesce did not even play.
The Hurricanes' first line is so good (Aho centering Svechnikov and Teravainen). And the roster is full of big, fast players.
Ron Francis deserves a lot of credit for drafting and developing, and Waddell has done a nice job too as much as it surprises me to have to say that. And I absolutely love the template of having two good goalies making decent coin (about $7 million for both) rather than relying on one guy to start 60-65 games at a huge price tag.

Svechnikov was pretty decent too...amazing what a talented 20 year old can do with top ice time and talented linemates. Rangers are the first members of the Just For Laff Sweepstakes.

Edmonton is a lot more fun hockey city when the Oil are in the playoffs and winning, not surprisingly. Their management has deprived their fans of a lot of playoff hockey for a while, so I hope they can muster some success. That being said, yeah, there is no way I want them getting Laff. They have had enough #1 and other top picks for a while. Time to show they can build a team around their Big Two.

Although the Jets massive injury problems pale by comparison to the coverage that Muzzin is getting from our national sports media, I really don’t like the Jets chances with such a devastated lineup. And this was a team that played the whole season with a patchwork D. The thought of Calgary advancing makes my stomach turn though.

That being said, yeah, there is no way I want them getting Laff. which I why I don't want the Leafs to lose. I'd normally actively cheer for the Jackets, and especially against this opposition, but I don't want TO in the Laff sweepstakes. Let it be known: I'm not actually cheering for the Leafs to win; I just don't want them to lose THIS ROUND (I hope that doesn't mean I have to turn in my official Leafs Suck card).

The teams I hate the most are the Leafs & the Bruins in that order. When they met in the playoffs last season my choice was, reluctantly, Boston. But the price for knocking Toronto out early was watching Boston go all the way to game 7 of the Finals. I don't want to watch something like that again.
I never want the Leafs to win & I'll take my chances with the 1st pick

Even if the Leafs survive the play-in, there are a number of other teams likely lining up for the Lafreniere sweepstakes that make me cringe (Rangers, Penguins, Oilers).

I never want the Leafs to win & I'll take my chances with the 1st pick The Bruins don't look like the same team. Their bottom 6 is just not that good. It's a fast team that works hard and they really depend on that top line to produce. Without them scoring, (as in this seeding round), they've been losing. And I've never been a fan of Rask's. I've seen him tighten up in the clutch too often in the past. Another thing that has come to my attention about the Bruins is their toughness. In watching some of these games, they've been involved in a few scrums and I've not seen the usual glove in the face crap they usually try. Oh sure, if Marchand is out there, anything is liable to happen, but he was their top penalty guy. IMO they have one tough guy left, Chara. I'm not going to say they can be intimidated, but I always felt their style of play gave them that little bit more time and space than many teams, but not so anymore. They are a franchise on the way down and once Bergeron and Chara retire, that slide will go faster. The whole New England sports scene, which has had a Golden Era, is now in a decline (whew, and apologies to BostonHabs). What is to be learned from that Golden Era is that those successful teams had better than average management and put resources into the effort. Hmmmm......

Boston could very likely play Carolina is the round of 16. I like it. Right now I think the Bruins would have a very hard time dealing with what the Canes bring to the ice each night.
With Montreal's luck, it is going to be a hungry stacked Tampa who has learnt from the lessons of last spring. And the frickin' Leafs will get the Flyers.

It's a barn burner tonight in Toronto. Leafs roar out to a 3-0 lead. Tortorella pulls the goalie and his charges wake up and battle all the way back to 3-3. I hate it to fear the planets aligning in the event the Leafs lose the series, but a fan my age has to recognize the lesser evil (i.e. advancing to the round of 16 probably constitutes for them about an 8 percent chance to hoist the Cup whereas losing gives them a 12.5 percent chance at another offensive stud).

Dubois with le tour du chapeau...and wins it in OT. 0-3 comeback completed. Torts ripped Dubois about 4 new ones on the bench in Game 2. Seemed to have lit some kind of fire.

Hmmm, another first round exit rearing its ugly head for the boys from TO. If it wasn’t for the lottery chance at you-know-who, I would really be enjoying this.
They are an overrated team. The sum of their parts is far less than the individuals on their team. Another massively overrated team is our current opponent. They are riding a post season funk too that is several years old.
